I think squadmates should be "incapacitated" during battle when they lose their shields/health -- but not permanent death or a "9 lives" style.  I think death will be best when making a major decision during the game, such as Kaidan/Ashley, Suicide mission, and then how you play the game in ME3.

Agreed. I think they should upgrade the 'incapacitation" effect by giving you some time to apply a medi-gel (like revive system in multiplayer) and when the timer ends this squadmate becomes unconscious for the rest of the mission and they don't automatically get up after you clear the area. You would have to keep going without them or you could call for an evac and change your team. If your entire roster is critically wounded then you either have to keep going solo or abort the mission. And then have some time limit squadmates need to rest in the medbay of the ship. It always bothered me that in every ME game the medic seems to be completely useless because we don't see them doing their job. This would encourage players to play smart and keep their team alive and at the same time it wouldn't affect our teammates to be forgettable like Jenkins.

After each mission, if a squad mate is rendered unconscious, maybe they visit the medbay after the mission.  I felt Chakwas was unimportant.  Same with Dr. Michel.

funny replies, I enjoyed thank you! my favourite is the one with the gun shooting cats...:-)

but aside the jokes, I consider very important to give  weight to a life and the best way to do it is death like a counterpoint to life...knowing that one of our teammater might die, gives to his/her life a stronger value...I think is a way to give the player more sophisticate choices...if you dont want to risk someone in combat, just bring others....

The combat would also more thrilling as the risk of losing someone is more tangible....the combat strategy could change radically, as is more important to preserve lives...

At the moment just the developers can decide who dies or live, the player has  limited choices that still follow the thread of the writer....I think choices can be done outside the usual ''multiple dialogue choices''....it feels quite limited, ...I think much more can be done....

miaow!!!! :-)

I really think that the impossibility for our teammates to die is not good as it does not make sense.
I understand that there is a big problem with the continuity of the story...so I'm aware of this compromise, but having adopted this system brings a heavy consequence: the death of our temmates during a firefight action has much less impact emotionally....there is no risk...so I think, the concept of ''impossible to die'' has to change.

My idea is to give 9 lives (yes , like a cat or an old arcade videogame has) In this way the player takes responsability on who to choose during a combat situation....will I risk to bring with me someone that has lost 8 lives before?...is a big choice and very thrilling in my opinion....
I know it is not realistic, c'mon 9 lives!!! but is emotionally interesting and games are a fine balace among different kind of realities..included our reality.

What do you think?

Cheers! :-)

sorry but THAT wouldn't make much sense.

So, arbitrary game design to support arbitrary game design?

In a cinematically driven video game, the player will always have limited choices that follow a limited range of threads created by the writer... simply because they have to get the voice segments and animations in place that take into account all the possible directions the story can take.  They don't have an unlimited budget or an unlimited file size or an unlimited amount of time to make the game.. so they have to limit the number of directions the story can take to a reasonable number.  That means that either you have a very small squad or you can't have members of the squad dying at random points in the game.  If you want a completely open story that you can make all your own, grab a pen and paper and write a book.

Yeah. Now they're just pussing me off (I thought of that one, myself - explains why it sucks).
