I got my hands on Shadow of mordor the other day and it's surprisingly good. The orc Ai and boss system is pretty innovative, the combat is entertaining and you get to fight the Sauron himself (although it is more satisfactorily done in the dlc). Still that's another one I'd add to the ps4 list.

Good to know.  I got it through G2A not too long ago, I've been looking to get it started on PC.

But my little guy & I having been working on a 2nd round though Pandora on BL1 and also just scored a good deal on the BL2 Season Pass DLC via XBL.

In terms of the combat, how would you compare SoM to other '1 vs multiple' physical combat games?  Games like Arkham, AC, Witcher, or maybe Souls/Bloodborne?

I have played all of those so I think I can give a pretty reasonable comparison to those. It's more of a mix of the Arkham series with that of AC except that I felt this was way more fluid and better than the punch fest style of arkham. Once you level up a bit, there are a lot of options for combat helping you mass murder orcs in style. It's not as slow as the witcher where you had to use all the potions, signs and oils etc to be effective although I was playing deathmarch. Here you can basically go to town with your sword once you unlock a few power ups.

But where they have balanced the difficulty is in bringing orc warlords who are much stronger, have specific traits and resistances and react to you somewhat based on your previous encounters. And there's enough of these guys to make the combat challenging enough. But it isn't exactly as precise as a souls game though nor does it have any particular variation for weapons used. Boss variety is also mostly limited to orcs and the rare troll or caragor. So it doesn't come close to the bosses of a souls game.

But it is entertaining enough to keep playing through once and some of the boss fights are pretty good. You also get to form your very own orc army and pit orc bosses against each other in power struggles which is very entertaining. So overall yes it does have a very robust gameplay and is quite fun!

Now THIS is some championship ribbon caliber feedback...appreciate it, TBK.

I was looking at Mordor when I was going thru the xbox sale this morning...I almost got it....the little commercial that plays on its home screen almost sold me on it... then I saw Lost Planet 3's .......and you can drive a jaeger....its pretty fun...they changed so much stuff plus the controls are much smoother than 1-2's.

I have only played a tiny bit of the original lost planet at an xbox demo at a mall back when the 360 first came out. It seemed nice from what I can remember, kinda like a game version of Starship troopers. Loved the mechs in that btw!

Mordor is pretty satisfying if you're a Lotr nerd like me although it does take some liberties with the lore.
