So here's a weird thing. Even though David Gaider said a month or so ago that he wasn't writing any Dragon Age books, and that the concept for his next one didn't really make it past the idea stage, it still seems like things got pretty far on the publishing side of things.

I was looking at Titan Books' upcoming catalogue for information about the new Mass Effect novel, and among the second half of 2016 books I found this:

Here's the original link: https://issuu.com/mw...16_catalogue/32

Obviously this looks like it was written ages before Inquisition was even released (they still call it DA3), but it's kinda interesting that they had David Gaider's book on their catalogue for 2016.

This book almost certainly won't be coming out (and it won't be written by Gaider, if it does), but at least we know it was on the future publishing schedule at some point.

That might be the cancelled one.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the OP knows that.

I am rather curious to know whether the basic premise of the novel has survived to be fully written by some other author. I'd imagine that if it was something that would have added to established lore, or even canon (perhaps a prequel), that those ideas would still be part of the world, regardless of who wrote it.

Bioware has been pretty good about recycling/reclaiming lore that had to be abandoned, so I will hope that the book material still coalesces somehow. Though if the reclaiming was due to Gaider's efforts, perhaps it's less likely now.

The release date of the cancelled book gives me false hope for something more related to DA (comics, books, etc) to come out then, but surely BioWare will still be focused on ME:A at that time, right? Especially seeing as how MEA's release date pushed back.

It had Fenris in it, so I assume it was going to be about Tevinter

^ Eh, I'd say it's premature to be making that kind of assumption. We don't know when it would have taken place or how large a role Fenris had. Hell, Shale was "in" Asunder, but that wasn't about Tevinter (where she said she was headed), or House Cadash; the role was very minor. For all we know, the protagonists ran into Fenris as he was butchering some slavers (seems to be a pastime of his in recent years), he said some things, and that was it.

It could even be about the Free Marches, possibly what was going on there during the events of DAI. Most of the DA2 companions are still there, according to Varric, so maybe it would show the fallout of Sebastian's invasion of Kirkwall.

Yeah perhaps some stuff that was supposed to happen in Exalted March?

"An anime series is in development" lol

About the book i can only say if it was meant to add to the lore and stuff i'd still like it to see the light of day, even of it isn't Gaider writing it.

That's what I'm thinking. I feel like Sebastian might have had a larger role in the DLC since he's one of the few companions who can't be killed, and he has a strong connection to the Chantry. The war table missions about Kirkwall, while I'm glad they were there, seemed like they could have been expanded upon. I think what was covered in those missions could have been expanded into part of the Exalted March DLC.
