To keep it quick. I gave up on DAI for a long list of reasons, many of which have finally been fixed. So I decided I would finally start a "full" play-through.

A considerable way into the game (20+hours playtime), and I've discovered that my world state apparently did not import correctly. Varric's descriptions of what happened to Hawke's companions after the endgame are completely opposite my choices in the Keep, for example, and he speaks of his brother as being dead (or at least, he uses language like "my brother WAS"). I definitely exported the world state correctly and check on the import side of things when starting the new game to be sure the date matched-up because I knew people had issue with this.

But still, it appears not to have actually worked. (Again, as far as I can tell). I don't enjoy DAI enough to give it more than one full play-through, so it needs to have the correct world-state as a baseline.

The quick questions: 1) If I just start over and try again (*groan*), I would like to cheat my way to the earliest point where I can determine whether or not my world state imported correctly. Realistically, is there any way to do so? Alternatively, is there any way to correct the world-state now in-game? Through console commands? (i.e. Godmode combat on casual to make it fast, or better yet insta-gib my way though all encounters until I'm back to where I am now, add items, etc. etc. I'm not sure I have the heart to slough through the early part of the game again the normal way...)

I guess that's it. What a bummer... Thanks for any help you can provide. I guess I'm just looking for some general tips I could use to try and correct this situation and / or make recovering from it take as little time as possible.

There are two ways to help determine whether or not your import from the DA Keep, was successful. Talking to Varric in Haven, should illuminate some of it, and if you bee-line it to Redcliffe Village - once the Hinterlands are open (I would suggest taking care of Mother Giselle/Crosswords first), then you can check the Warden's history, once you place the banner in front of the Warden's monument, in the village center. Just look at your Codex entry under Characters, after planting the banner, and you should see a card for the Warden. Reading it will give you a heads up, if their info fits.

To help ensure that you have the correct world state before you start over, check which world state is currently up in the Tapestry in the DA Keep. Then click on the "World" icon in the right hand corner, and make sure it is already "imported". If not, choose to have it imported. (if it is correct, it will say "Used on Start of New DAI game"). Also, double check the tapestry to make sure it does have all the correct choices you wanted.

And though this reads as quite obvious, be sure that you are connected to the Dragon Age Servers, when starting up your new game.

As for getting using console commands, I don't think there are any that can be used, to get you quickly back to your last point in your current play through. The console commands for DAI are fairly limited. Someone with better knowledge than I, may have better insight to give you regarding this, though.

**NOTE**
The other thing to consider is this: you could just play things out as they are now, and change things in the DA Keep, to have the World State you meant to have, once DA4 comes out. Might not be something you want to do, but it is an option. *shrug*

Good luck, and sorry I don't have more to offer.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll check out the status in Redcliff as suggested before attempting a restart. As long as my critical choices from DAO are carried over I don't really care too much about the others, but my guess is that I've somehow gotten the default world state, in which case things will be totally wrong (and that would bug me to no end, even though it's just a bloody video game...)

Oh, I should note: you may need to do one part of the Main Quest first, before Redcliffe is open to you. That would be going to Val Royeaux. If you have already been to Val Royeaux (and you haven't already chosen Champion's of the Just, before going to Redcliffe), then you should be able to head there with no problems. I just couldn't remember for sure, if you need to do that first part of the main quest (going to Val Royeaux for the first time), before Redcliffe becoming available.

Hope that makes sense. :pinched:

Thank you! Your suggestions were a huge help. Everything looks good on the Keep site, including my export being used to start a new game recently.

After checking the codex at Redcliff (I had just reached that location, so good timing) I looked through other codex entries, and they are correct (Anora as queen, fate of Connor, etc.)

So, it appears now as if the world state DID import correctly but that Varric's story-telling is bugged for me as he has told me a number of woefully inaccurate things regarding events of DAII. But really, it's the events in DAO that matter, and I can live with Varric being wrong about things of little consequence.

So for others who experience this: Don't go by Varric's responses alone...
