I'm not sure, let's ask people why they like God of War, Gears of War, Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty World at War, Mortal Kombat, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, DOOM, Wolfenstein, The Last of Us, Resident Evil, Dante's Inferno, Bulletstorm, The Evil Within, Fallout, The Darkness, or Dead Space and see why those games are entertaining.

They like it for the gameplay, for the story, for the multipayer and maybe some of them for the impressive graphics. However, I am reasonably certain that only very few people think the gore is the sole/a huge reason why any of these games are fun and entertaining.

That being said I personally couldn't care less about the levels of gore in games. I'm not easily upset by it but neither do i gain any satisfaction or enjoyment from enemies being shredded in ridiciously over the top violence.

I don't believe people would be able to handle realistic gore. I wouldn't want it even if it were possible to do it. Real injuries do not look like Hollywood movies. It involves things like having organs hanging out of one's body, people's brain case swelling enormously when the skull is cracked, horrible twitching, screaming, groaning, etc. Watching things like this would be awful and I would be seriously disturbed if anybody actually wanted to see these things rendered realistically. I am perfectly content with the level of gore in the previous games. It is symbolic more than it is realistic. Just realistic enough to make people who have never witnessed such things think that it is realistic. But if the intensity of such symbolic gore is amplified it turns into self-parody.

I'm all for it. How bout you guys and gals?

Ugh. No, not really.

To be honest, I'm pretty content with the minimalist levels of gore in ME. I'd also be content to see the romance arcs kept as background pieces where they started. I want to sit down a play a Space Marine game, explore strange, new places, meet new aliens, and maybe shoot a bit and/or fling a few powers. I don't want the game to get too bloody or sexed up/diverted away from the main point.

I liked the dark "creepy" missions if that's what you mean. I wouldn't mind more of those kinds of missions or areas.

I agree. The ME trilogy had some pretty creepy missions, and I loved all of them. I'm not exactly looking for a horror game, but I think it'd be really cool if they added more creepy, mysterious elements to ME:A. I just love the feeling of not knowing something and only being able to wonder about it.

yeah I have to admit it's fine just the way it is as well. I'm fine with it in both Bioware's series and for me the level of gore dosen't really need changing. Yes there aer areas where the ydo need to improve but this is not one of them for me unless they'er going for a cartoonish DA2 style story which I can't see them doing in MEA

I'm not a big fan of gore, this is a game where you are supposed to be attached to characters, Seeing them brutally disfigured is just a torture in its self. More gore in mass effect is going to make me uncomfortable. That's just my view on this.

Last I check I wasn't attached to Kai leng but he got an omni blade in his gut. I'm a fan of realism. It's just my view.

Please don't tell me you believe the gore in Fallout is realistic in any way.

For your information, pistol shots to the chest don't dismember people.

never played fallout and dismembered limbs aren't limited to gun shots. *cough* omni blades *cough*

I don't think you know what real gore looks like. You probably think movies like Saw show realistic gore, but they don't. Real gore, from automatic weapons fire and explosions and such, is not entertaining or engrossing. It's stomach churning and makes you feel horrible.

I don't really care about gore, but if we can get a gun that zaps someone to the point of bursting like a watermelon filled with dynamite, I won't complain.

Everything is fine and dandy. Nothing negative. Tranquil. And then you show up. We are talking about a videogame, not your first nosebleed.

Quite literally the only reason a game like Mortal Kombat has even existed as long as it has is because of the gore.

Realistically nothing would happen. Omni-Blades are incredibly hot so would cauterize the wound thus preventing blood and gore. From the Codex:

The most common melee design is the "omni-blade," a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool's mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent.

Reality/realism is not always entertainment. some of us play games to avoid reality.

Spoiler

Mortal combat is comically inventive but hardly applicable for a shooter setting. Also MK X has better fatalities and those over the top x ray stuff.
