Quite literally the only reason a game like Mortal Kombat has even existed as long as it has is because of the gore.

I doubt it. If the player had to do some really stupid gameplay, like sloving crossword puzzles about various species of fungi, in order to see all the brutal fatalities, nobody would buy the game. The gore alone won't make anyone, at least not anyone noteworthy, buy a game.

Nope, honestly I love ME the way it is, I don't want to see more useless gore/blood on the game (like it was on Dragon age Origins, too much for my taste, I had no fun running over bloody corpses all the time... if you want gore games, just play it ).

I really don't see how more gore could make ME better or more interesting, I think it will do the exact contrary, transform the serie into something it isn't.

I've spent enough time hunting and butchering on my parents' farm to be of the opinion that realistic gore is usually not that interesting, cool-looking, or worth the trouble. With space armor, realistic is probably a puff of pink at the impact site and that's about it. But generally, efforts to make gore more realistic has... almost the exact opposite effect, since it looks hokey and fake.

I'm not against there being more realistic consequences for violence, but if it leads to those awful blood spatters that only happen with special effects, ew, pass.

Realistically nothing would happen. Omni-Blades are incredibly hot so would cauterize the wound thus preventing blood and gore. From the Codex:

The most common melee design is the "omni-blade," a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool's mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent.

can still cut off limbs. Like Star wars.

Flash-forged by a mini-fabricator?

That is so much dumber than I thought it was.

I thought it would be concentrated mass effect fields like Traynor's toothbrush.

I found Fallout 4 too bloody. Since games are getting pretty realistic, I'm starting to turn away from games that are simply about killing. Especially killing humans in a modern setting (less problems with fantasy monsters and scifi robots/reaper-zombies). So I hope ME:A will take it easy with killing humans, like in ME 1 (in which you only had to kill a couple of humans on the Citadel, all other were pretty much optional).

I like the amount ME3 had.  If I wanted gore, I would play DOOM.

Call me a wussypants, but I turn blood and gore off in every game that I can. I don't need that crap. It's another reason why I've never finished The Last Of Us, I wish I could turn the gore off and a language filter on.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................. The Last Of Us got such amazing reviews, and it's by Naughty Dog, my other favorite game dev. I tried so many times.

The gore ruined it for me.....

But like I said....I'm a wussypants.

And Bioware hasn't really put gorey gore into their RPGs besides blood spatters in DA.

I don't mind  a little bit of blood and gore but the amount it's already done at is fine by me. If you want more OTT type violence that's what games like Doom and Mortal Komba exist for.

We need more gore, decapitations, eviscerations, gallons of blood, new weapons for blowing people up however we have to cut back on showing a bare butt or god forbid a nipple.  Don't want to get rated ultra mature themes only.

You are not a "wussypants". Neither is anybody else who dislikes this kind of stuff. I think that's perfectly normal. I play these games and I love them for various reasons (e.g. the thrill of "surviving" spine-chilling situations), but there's absolutely no arguing that these elements tend to be totally f****d up. And it's not something I expect from BW games, either. This company delivers an entirely different experience and that's it. (Not that it's all sunshine and butterflies, but still.)

Given Mass Effect's previous focus and its existing audience, rating, etc., I don't think such level of violence would be appropriate or even smart. It's not what's given BW their fanbase. Worse, it could put already won fans off because that's simply not something they're used to from this company. I'm not surprised at all that people are opposed to it, judging from this thread. Nothing cowardly about that. It's reasonable. Simply not what you've signed up for.

Yes, the only time in the Mass Effect universe that I almost threw up.

Thanks. :) I don't think gore is entertaining at all. But to each their own.

she dosen't in mine but then I always arrive in time to save her in the majority of my playthroughs. In fact the only time my crew died is when I was playing renegade and I chose not to send anyone back with them.

Honestly, I was quite surprised when that happened. That was unusually messed up for this franchise. ME has always contained horror and body horror elements (e.g. all the Reaper creatures), but seeing (for me it was) Lilith melt took me by surprise. It almost feels out of place (Not complaining, mind you.) because the rest of the franchise seems somewhat tame in comparison. Like, there's some blood here and there and some boogiemen, but nothing overly dramatic (I think). Not that the games don't have their moments.

Indeed I buy Bioware's games for their stories not for their gore. Yes they make mature games  but I'm glad Bioware concentrate more on telling a good story than going OTT with things like gore. Besides I think they know not to go OTT with it anyway unless they'er going with a kind of story like DA2 where they can get away with a little exaggeration.

No, it is unnecessary. It won't attract any new players but may well push some away so what's the point other than to sate some peoples bloodlust? Mass Effect should be Mass Effect, not Dead Space.

I don't shy away from gore being a Mortal Kombat fan but there is no need for it in every game. Especially a game that is more about the story and the characters.
