I keep on going back and forth about how much Leliana knows about Blackwall pre-Revelation.  I usually take her "not what I expected" comment to be in regards to his lack of knowledge regarding the other wardens' suspicious behavior, but I suppose it could be that she knows that he's not really Blackwall then and there.  I just assumed that she took him at his word since he was allegedly a warden and that his sudden and unexplained disappearance inspired her to do some digging.  The other explanation is equally plausible though.

If Leliana actually *knows* that Blackwall isn't really a Warden basically as soon you talk to her after recruiting him and doesn't tell you or anyone else, then she's an even worse spymaster and representative of the Inquisition than I thought. If she *knows* yet lets you and Josephine use his status as a Warden to gain allies and resources, that is just despicable dishonesty, if not outright fraud, that has the potential to do irreparable damage to the Inquisition if it's ever found out. The sad thing is, Leliana does seem the type to do just that.

I have one unfinished game where my IQ romances Blackwall and I'm not sure I'll ever finish it. In all my game's he's in my party most of the time because I like him as a tank though.  :)

My IQs would all be thrilled if Zevran (the assassin) , Anders (the bomber), Cullen (the once upon the time crazy Templar), or Alistair (the bastard) showed up in her room at night  but when Blackwall showed up at night, in the game where my IQ is romancing him, it was so hard not to say "Get OUT of here old man!"  (And I was even using the No Beard mod). He just reminds me of a big bear in a bathrobe.

Still I use him in my party all the time and will never allow Viv around him because she's so rude to him. So I do like him but not in THAT way and don't want him showing up in my room at night.

I definitely didn't see the reveal coming. I thought it was a bit odd when he said he was in Ferelden during the Blight, but figured it could've been a Riordan-type situation. I mean, we never knew about him until near the end of the game, and with Loghain against the Wardens it would be plausible. But Blackwall never really followed up on that. Then with the 'how to kill an archdemon' conversation, I figured it was the usual Warden secrecy.

The fact that the Adamant Wardens listened to him really helped to sell it, for me. So I was pretty shocked when it turns out that Blackwall is real, but it's not him. It looked to me like he'd just been hiding from his past for years and let his men take the fall for everything. Even after I let him back into the Inquisition it was kind of weird because it was a 'let's forget this ever happened' kind of scenario. He wanted to keep being called 'Blackwall' and there wasn't much follow-up on the whole thing.

It wasn't until Trespasser that I started to like him again. I liked the fact that he was going by his old name again (tbh, any name except 'Blackwall' would've been fine). It addressed him trying to atone for his past in a way that fit your judgement of him. I particularly liked his little banters with the other companions (Cole!). I felt pretty proud of him. And that epilogue slide about him going to prisons to bring hope to the inmates was really moving.

I had literally zero experience with Dragon Age during my first run so Blackwall saying he was fighting Darkspawn in Fereldan was like "okay yeah that's a thing that probably happened" so I was completely blindsided and felt betrayed by the truth, because my first Inquisitor saw him as an Uncle/Father type. But I mean when all was said and done I was willing to forgive him because 1) My Inquisitor felt he's truly remorseful and 2) Blackwall was way to indestructible to let go.

My second playthrough was meant to be a Blackwallmance (because ~drama~) but sadly something glitched so the mission never came up :'c
