Is Bio seeking a M+ Rating for Andromeda?

For sure. The same has happened with films, over the years. Many "R" rated films from the 1980s look like "PG" films, now. The system hasn't changed, but perception, tolerance and acceptance of content has changed dramatically.

I think you have that backwards.

Haha, perhaps. Maybe I should've said "the letters haven't changed, but their definitions sure as hell seem to have changed".

I'm not familiar with an AO rating, but an NC-17 rating is a kiss of death for films here in the U.S.  I doubt Andromeda will stray from their usual M rating.

Now this I understand. It's puzzling too because EA's goal is to sell to a wider market and a M+ rating will remove the 17yr old teenagers. I was also  unaware that many retailers would refuse to sell AO games. However, this may be mitigated by digital sales.

Could be a typo

Has anyone seen a M only rating for Mass Effect Andromeda? please provide a link.

The only way that these games get tested by the ESRB are when they are fully functioning games.  If there's a scene or two missing, they might do it, given promises of what the content includes.

So, they might be shooting for teen.  But I don't really think that they're gonna get there.  They're prolly gonna end up with an M rating.

I sincerely doubt it. They struck a good balance with DA:I and I think they're likely to continue in that way.

I'm really sorry if I'm wrong, but doesn't it say anticipated to be rated mature on the trailer??? I've only seen it once, so I might be wrong x

No, they are not.

Many retailers refuse to sell AO rated games, and that could put a serious dent in profits. How much they'll utilize that mature rating remains to be seen, but id be seriously surprised if they went far enough to get an AO.

I expect this to change as digital distribution becomes ubiquitous.

Plus, with the average age of gamers rising (31 in the US and 35 in the UK (Thank Aaryn Flynn, see, your speech did teach me something)) there's no need to be shooting their games in the foot when it comes to making younger games for younger audiences.

The game isn't going to have an AO rating. Many high-profile retailers simply refuse to sell those. Not gonna happen.

Besides, 18+ provides all the mature content needed. It allows for very copious amounts of gore, all the difficult/incomfortable themes you could ever want, as much swearing as one can stomach, and plenty of sexual content, just not up to fully animated penetration. The only way it gets AO is if it features really exaggerated violence, such as SAW-style torture porn or, well, actual pornographic imagery. Neither of which fit Mass Effect as I see it.

As far as I'm aware, "M+" isn't a rating, at least not through the ESRB. The link in your OP seems to clearly indicate that the game is simply not yet rated.

Every ME game, and every Bioware game in the past 10+ years, has been M rated, and the M rating these days seems to offer plenty enough latitude to ensure creative freedom. Going "AO" would be unprecedented (and the chance of it happening is vanishingly small).

Why on earth should this be significantly different than any of the other romance subplots? What, in your mind, could possibly differentiate it from their approach to previous SS or OS romances?

Eh.. bathroom laws in NC? NC suing Feds. Feds suing NC.  Universities suing the state. Religious freedoms hindered? It's a mess.

Anyway, it's opening a can of worms.... not going there.

So in Andromeda, we have to shoot every living thing we can find and cause choas across the whole galaxy?

You speak the truth.

I think only Destiny, Batman games, and Uncharted are rated Teen these days.

Also Overwatch.

An AO game, much like an NC-17 film, is dead on arrival. There's no way in hell.

We can't even say the word **** here without it being starred out even though it's in the dialogue of the games they make.

You're the first and only person person who went there, so you already pulled them out. And in any case, those things aren't really relevant to romances in Mass Effect. Although since this whole thread seems to be the result of poor reading comprehension and questionable inferences, I guess it's as applicable as anything else.

Think about it, though. What about their approach would change significantly with a trans romance option compared with the straight and gay options that they've been including for years? Because I can't think of anything.

The last Batman was rated M I think, but I'm not sure what was in the game that made it M.

Tasteful pubes for everyone! :D If not, let's see where the rating goes and just how much they can get into Andromeda. Still mad about Bull's boxdong.

While a lot of retailers will avoid selling an AO game, theres one point that nobody yet has mentioned...

Sony will not allow ANY AO rated game to be published on the Playstation. I'm pretty sure that EA wants ME:A on the PS4. The game will get an M rating here in the US, there's no doubt there.

Same with Microsoft and Nintendo. They will not allow AO games for their consoles.

Yup. I'm not sure why we're even having this discussion.
