Hey Fellow Inquisitors

In a world where forums can be more toxic than a Red Templar Behemoth's porta potty, I must say this community is rather awesome. I always get a ton of help, lively and fun discussions that take fun twists and turns. It reminds me of the days long ago, early guilds I was in back in Star Wars Galaxies (Jinook Phi from the House of Phi), early WOW.

So cheers from me bar in Skyhold! Well met, Inquisitors.

Hey, what happened to the "what did you do today" thread? I loved that thread.

People on the wikia often accused the BSN of being a toxic warzone of stupidity and complaining. But I think these forums are the best I've ever been a part of. Maybe they were referring to the Mass Effect subforums, or maybe they were just lying. Anyway, thanks for the compliment.

BSN was toxic as f*** until Bioware finally closed Off Topic. Seriously that was the best thing they could have ever done to this place.

Same with me, even though I lurked on here a few months before making an account.

Off Topic was basically full of bioware haters who would just go to the ME and DA forums to hate on their games and on their fans (you would be literally called a retard if you'd dare say you liked any game from bioware post ME2, let's not mention what would happen if you'd say you liked ME3).

Been a member of BSN since 2011, I know what I'm talking about.

I must admit the Bioware forums are pretty good, for the most part people are pretty civil and frankly after spending so much time on the cancerous Bungie forums I am a bit surprised by the civility displayed by the people on this website.

This forum is good, more funny than Halo Waypoint's to be honest, but I never considered any forum as toxic until I saw some Star Wars' forums after Disney's takeover.

BSN was toxic as f*** until Bioware finally closed Off Topic. Seriously that was the best thing they could have ever done to this place.

The only topic that I recall was hit hard by trolls was about "My Little Pony" but all the others I saw (Star Wars, Music, Memes and Halo) were pretty quiet.

I still really prefer the old BSN from back in the day. It was way, way way more toxic than even the off-topic section here used to be (at times). But the way it was designed with much better profile options and heavy group emphasis it was very easy to avoid the trolls and baddies. Also back then BW employees were so much more active. That I miss the most. For the most part we don't hear from them that much here.

When old BSN went away, I started my own DA fansite (see signature) for a bunch of people who didn't like the changes they made (this site) and we got many more when the off-topic section disappeared here as well.

That being said, this place is still a GREAT place for resources and connecting with people who really enjoy DA and discussing it in a usually constructive manner. Recently I started playing MP and I have to say the people on the MP section are super nice and have been so helpful I am posting here again after a very long hiatus.

It's a nice site for sure esp compared to other gaming or fan sites. But the old BSN was just something special and I still miss it.

IKR? I've been a part of 1 argument. Short of that, I think I saw maybe 2 arguments ever come up in the Off-Topic forum. None of them wouldn't have been any worse than most arguments on the internet. If anything, I think locking Off-Topic was what spawned any anger for some forumites.

Apparently, one of the ME forums (might have been ME2) had people giving each other death threats. I don't remember seeing or hearing anything close to that in other forums, least of all in Off-Topic.

In my experiance more that people who disliked things about ME or DA migrated to off topic to have productive and fun discussion as opposed to the repetitive arguments and thread found in the main forums.

Don't believe me? Check out how often DA gets compared to the witcher in the DA section. Or how in depth people went into saying ME3 sucked. It gets dull.

The forums were pretty nasty for a while after DA2, but other than that they're nicer than most video game forums.

Also, the people who are here at the moment - during the Long Darkness Between Games - tend to be pretty obsessed over-invested ... um, keen on Dragon Age. (And yes, I definitely include myself in that.)

I really love this forum. I lurked for a little while before joining and though there are posters I don't agree with, mostly everyone is pretty dang insightful. Pretty much every day I'm here I'll read some strategy I never considered, see an idea I never thought about, or come across an interesting tidbit I missed during my previous 20 play throughs. Not only am I glad to have a forum to find other people enjoying the same thing I do, but also where I can still learn so much and have a fun time doing it.

Thanks, OP. Now that you mention it, things have indeed been rather nice around here lately. Lots of interesting discussions; hate and trolling, while unavoidably not completely absent, have been relatively rare. A very welcome change after the post-ME3 mood.

Passions always run high right after a game is released, but I think DAI has had a reception as balanced as you can expect from a game that had a noticeably smaller plot than originally planned, and certainly a much better reception than Bioware's previous two games - DA2 and ME3. That has contributed to a fairly moderate mode I think - well, as moderate as your typical fans' mood ever gets.

I also think that what is "typical" for Bioware's forums - in whichever form - has been distorted by the fact that their two games before DAI have been rather controversial at the very least. Thing have simmered down to normal since then - a fairly moderate mood interspersed with specific high-tension or high-passion topics and the occasional political trolling attempt.
