An Update on Mass Effect: Andromeda
By Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare• The Next Great Mass Effect Experience: Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today’s consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We’re pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history.
only dont end up with a lousy PC port like HITMAN, please biower dont do that... just dont that...

Two out of three will be in it. Hopefully with more and better content then DAI.
Oh please no. My typical "exploration" in DAI was like that:
"Go from point A to point B huh, please don't put a rift in between"
Followed by:
"Oh craaaaaaap, there's a fukken rift there, can i avoid it? Nope. Well, see you in a couple of months when i'll get sufficiently motivated to play this"
Never finished the game btw, the story was fine but the gameplay and the sh*itty UI (seriously, fire the guy who made it, and kick him in the balls) killed all sense of enjoyement for me. It was a frickin' chore, doing the dishes has more fun and excitement than closing X² rifts one after another and collecting some glowing shards guarded by spiders.

Just two days after GTX1080 was revealed this is Bioware's statement:
Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today's consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We're pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history.
I'm aware Bioware devs are not in touch with their own audience, but not being in touch with current technology I just can't believe it. It's like having a proper cure for cancer but continuing to treat the disease with radiation and chems.
If the statement was supposed to be a joke, it's a bad one Bioware. I'm not laughing.

Let's hope they're doing the PC port inhouse and not at Iron Galaxy.

What? It's the first game on the PS4. That's correct?

We can’t wait to show you how far we’re all going to go. We’ll see you at the EA PLAY press conference on June 12, with an update.

Lol, just joking. I'll wait for a month and hope we get to see some in-game footage explaning gameplay and maybe something story related.

This particular use of the word "update" reminds me a lot of how the word "Revelations" was used in the fourth Assassin's Creed.
I don't really care if they update us, personally. I doubt there's anything I'd want to know about before it comes out.

No, he's referencing the fact that incredible new tech just became available for PC gamers (a full year ahead of expectations), and yet the announcement is referencing the new consoles as "pushing the limits of new technology".What? It's the first game on the PS4. That's correct?
The thing is, posts like this one ignore the fact that MEA will be the first ME game on the new consoles, and it will be a great, impressive new experience for many gamers. Also, PC gamers generally do enjoy a slightly better experience right out of the box, visually speaking. Finally, taking advantage of the cutting edge tech available exclusively to them, PC gamers will likely be able to employ mods, in time, that will give them their far superior experience. Maybe it won't be the stunning masterpiece the PC crowd would get if MEA were developed exclusively for PC, but there wouldn't be a MEA developed exclusively for PC. We unwashed hordes of console gamers make AAA titles financially viable.

No mention about roleplaying elements? WOW.
It's true that they didn't explicitly state it, but it's sort of there in the description.
First, this was posted on the Mass Effect homepage. If you're going there, then you know the type of games these are supposed to be.
Secondly, they talk about the new characters, stories, etc... Sure, all games have those, but BioWare fans know that BioWare characters are experienced via RPG interactions, and this was posted on the ME homepage.
Third, the whole bit about "freedom to choose" how we get there, where we go and all that jazz-- that screams open-world RPG.
Maybe I'm being an optimist, but I think they figured they'd advertise the shiny new stuff in this release, not tell us the stuff we should already know, such as "Mass Effect Andromeda will be an Action RPG".

This update states what most of us already know. This isn't really anything new, now it's just BioWare has officially came out and stated it. As for RPG elements, just because they posted it on their homepage doesn't really mean much. But I do agree, it's there, just not as bold as "OPEN WORLD RPG." I just want some elements that made ME1 amazing, back with some improvements.

Agreed. My first post was pretty much, "Oh, look. They announced all that we've already deduced."
I, too, hope we get the tone of ME1 with a whole lot of improvements. ME1 gave an incredible feeling of exploration, despite being limited by the constraints of its time and budget. With all of that has been learned within the industry in the last decade, and with a AAA budget, we can rightly set our expectations high.

Well, I originally thought we would be making one ally, the one with the alien LI. However, AF used the word "allies", plural. That's new to me.
Some hints:
1.- We may get non linear scripts for the main story arc. Explore at will and return to the main story at our own choosing.
2.- There is also a hint that cinematic animation may be all mocap. Our female protag won't be embarrassed if she sits down.
No news on better hair, though.

My hope is that they've considered the feedback they got from Inquisition, and had a look at the way The Witcher 3 was received, and concluded that, if you're going to have a large open world in a story-driven game, that world should be filled with, and used as a means to deliver, stories--generally in the form of proper side-quests. That's as opposed to shards, rifts, astrariums, and notes that inevitably lead to fetching random items that either contain, or are guarded by, demons.
Substitute in "lockers, settlement locations, basements, and raiders" for "shards, rifts, astrariums, and demons" and you've described quite a bit of Fallout 4's side content too.
As someone with only limited time for playing games who prefers to have the action flow from the story instead of just being there for its own sake, I'm getting a bit annoyed by this trend, especially after all the time it took to finish DA:I and FO4. Are game developers really sitting down and saying to each other, "What we really need is an extra hundred hours of excuses for the player to fight variations on the same five or six battles over and over again"?

I'm not setting the bar high just yet. I need some meat to the information BioWare is dishing out. I mean, I expect it to be a great game. But I am not setting the bar just yet. I want this game to be amazing, I know we all do. But I want to be prepared for any let downs that may come (while leaving room for any surprises).

Hell's yeah!!!!!!!
An Update on Mass Effect: Andromeda
By Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare
With Mass Effect™: Andromeda, our team at BioWare™ is exploring how far they can take this beloved franchise. Yes, we’re building the best of what we all love about Mass Effect – amazing stories, characters and fun third-person shooter combat – and bringing them along with us on the expedition to Andromeda. But we’re also excited to be introducing new features and ways you can enjoy a Mass Effect game.
• More Freedom: One of our biggest ambitions is to give players an unprecedented level of freedom for a Mass Effect experience –where you’ll go, how you’ll get there, and how you’ll play.
• New Uncharted Worlds: We’re leaving the Milky Way behind and headed to Andromeda, where we’ll meet new allies, confront new enemies, and explore fascinating new worlds.
• The Next Great Mass Effect Experience: Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today’s consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We’re pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history.
As we’ve been playing the game at the studio recently, it’s showing us that we’re taking the game in the right direction. But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be – that’s our commitment from all of us to all of you.
Because of that, Mass Effect: Andromeda will now ship in early 2017. We can’t wait to show you how far we’re all going to go. We’ll see you at the EA PLAY press conference on June 12, with an update.
Thank you for your patience and support.

Point number 1 is precisely what I've long expected, and it worries me. I think it is the single greatest problem I have with open-world games, and one of the reasons I didn't enjoy DAI. DAI, like many open world games, has you spend so much time wandering about simply "doing stuff" that the main storyline loses all urgency and importance. That is not what I'm looking for in a game; and I think it would ruin Mass Effect.
BioWare needs to stick to their strength-- focused, character-driven narratives. Make the sidequests tie into the main story, somehow. Make them tie to my squad, somehow. Don't let the main point of my mission, of the game, lie dormant for hours, as it did in DAI.

there are pros and cons to this. I believe there should be side missions coinciding with the main story. There should also be some that don't. 50/50. Having other missions and priorities is fun when it's well thought out.Point number 1 is precisely what I've long expected, and it worries me. Yeah, it has to be balanced. I wouldn't want everything laser-focused on a single plot. That's why they're called sidequests, after all. They're usually somewhat tangential to the main quest. I guess I'm most concerned that the crap ton of content they keep bragging about have a point. BioWare's first open world game felt largely pointless.
I don't want the meandering mess that most open world games are.. I know a lot of people like them. I'm not trying to knock that style of game. I just don't think that style of "go do whatever you want to do" is a good fit for Mass Effect. Skyrim exists for that. BioWare excels at writing characters. I'd like them to stick to what they're good at and what I like to play. I'm selfish that way.
