copypasted my post from RPGwatch:

-

Just two days after GTX1080 was revealed this is Bioware's statement:

I'm aware Bioware devs are not in touch with their own audience, but not being in touch with current technology I just can't believe it. It's like having a proper cure for cancer but continuing to treat the disease with radiation and chems.

If the statement was supposed to be a joke, it's a bad one Bioware. I'm not laughing.

There's a difference between cutting edge technology and slicing your arm off and opening the wound up to see what's inside technology.

Just sayin'.

"With Mass Effect™: Andromeda, our team at BioWare™ is exploring how far they can take this beloved franchise. Yes, we’re building the best of what we all love aboutMass Effect – amazing stories, characters and fun third-person shooter combat – and bringing them along with us on the expedition to Andromeda. But we’re also excited to be introducing new features and ways you can enjoy a Mass Effect game."

So What I understand from this statement is that MEA is basically a 3rd person shooter. No where in the "update" did they use RPG/role playing.

"• The Next Great Mass Effect Experience: Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today’s consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We’re pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history."

They left out PC so I am guessing we will get a crappy PC port. Which is sad :(

"Because of that, Mass Effect: Andromeda will now ship in early 2017. We can’t wait to show you how far we’re all going to go. We’ll see you at the EA PLAY press conference on June 12, with an update."

1 early 2017 until another delay.

2 I hope it is not the same type of update we just got now.

Oh please no. My typical "exploration" in DAI was like that:

"Go from point A to point B huh, please don't put a rift in between"

Followed by:

"Oh craaaaaaap, there's a fukken rift there, can i avoid it? Nope. Well, see you in a couple of months when i'll get sufficiently motivated to play this"

I'm confused... why didn't you want to take on rifts?

Because after two or three of them it gets old, repetitive, boring and frankly not that fun, the exact opposite of fun to be more precise, like the combat mechanics.

Big thank you for the updates.   :)

Am I the only one that groans when she reads that?

More freedom translates in my head to a less linear game, with a weaker story, and way too many zones to explore that will overwhelm the actual plot.

I love DAI, but please please don't let ME:A catch InquisitionZoneAThon-itis.   :(

I also groan about this.  The game that comes to my mind is Mass Effect 1 though, not DAI (haven't played it yet).  I really don't like ME1 and I'd hope that ME:A doesn't take that route.

I thought a PC was a console??? Or are they different? Sorry if I'm being silly, I've never owned my own console until now. :)

OK, but how is that worse than the rest of the zone? If you don't have combat at a rift, you'll just get to some other combat faster. I can see hating the whole game, but not disliking rifts in particular.

Consoles is Bioware's target audience. It's been for ages now. Nothing new.

In this instance I wouldn't cast blame at the rifts as much as I would the combat mechanics. If you don't like the combat mechanics to begin with, then there's very little that exploration (and its various activities) can do to make you like the game more.

Certainly, rifts are repetitive, but (if you're like me) replacing DA:I's combat with ME3's would make them far more bearable, if not actually enjoyable.

It might depend on who you ask. Usually though, consoles mean Xbox, PS4, WiiU, etc. or any gaming platform (usually non-portable) that isn't a PC. If you want to reference them all, the general term is "platform," or "gaming platform." I think. Honestly, it's probably just safest to say "consoles and PC," when you want to reference everything.

I don't know why developers think I ever asked for an open world in the first place. Skyrim is great but did I EVER ask every other game to become Skyrim? NO.

ugh I know I feel like story driven games are dying. I actually like and prefer linear (or mostly linear) rpgs. Skyrim is the first open world that I liked and I only like it because I can mod the **** outta it. Add a bunch of survival type stuff to it. No way would I want every game I play to be skyrim. The reasons I play games are vastly different. I need variety in my gaming.

An Update on Mass Effect: Andromeda

By Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare

With Mass Effect™: Andromeda, our team at BioWare™ is exploring how far they can take this beloved franchise. Yes, we’re building the best of what we all love about Mass Effect – amazing stories, characters and fun third-person shooter combat – and bringing them along with us on the expedition to Andromeda. But we’re also excited to be introducing new features and ways you can enjoy a Mass Effect game.

    • More Freedom: One of our biggest ambitions is to give players an unprecedented level of freedom for a Mass Effect experience –where you’ll go, how you’ll get there, and how you’ll play.

Gameplay, plz!

    • New Uncharted Worlds: We’re leaving the Milky Way behind and headed to Andromeda, where we’ll meet new allies, confront new enemies, and explore fascinating new worlds.

The Next Great Mass Effect Experience: Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today’s consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We’re pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history.

Soo… wHaT's ThE mInImAl ReQuIrEmEnTs. just curious. (and crossing my everything that Win7 64 will still be an option)

As we’ve been playing the game at the studio recently, it’s showing us that we’re taking the game in the right direction. But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be – that’s our commitment from all of us to all of you

Because of that, Mass Effect: Andromeda will now ship in early 2017. We can’t wait to show you how far we’re all going to go. We’ll see you at the EA PLAY press conference on June 12, with an update.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the next update. Really.

Oh boy... I sure love the implementation of quests in open world bioware games!

"Help the doctors by collecting 5 samples around the infect area!"

-no variety in completing such a mission

-very copy and paste

-uninspired.

Pretty much. A console is basically a PC with a bad input device and the screen too far away.

Was going to get this on my bad ass PC.  Hell, I was going to sell my current rig and get a new setup with a 6th gen i7 and the GTX 1080 and corsair DDR4 16gb RAM, and a nice 4K IPS monitor...  I guess now I can save that money.

You were going to get all that for one game?

No, let's be honest, you weren't. If you were planning on getting a rig that beefy then the news that ME:A may not have the highest-end graphics ever seen in gaming would not stop you. And if you could afford a rig that expensive, you wouldn't be worrying about saving the money from it. Anyway, if you already have a "bad ass PC" why are you planning on building an entirely new rig?

The game's going to be on Frostbite 3. It's going to look good on PC. Frostbite is a pretty well optimised engine too, so as long as the port isn't done by chimps in a chinese sweat shop it'll probably be alright. I've been rocking a 780Ti for 2 years now and I'm sure it'll run ME:A fine.

Not JUST for Andromeda.  I do other things aside games. But to be honest, Andromeda was just one of my main excuses.  I can still get buy pretty damn well on my current computer.

Perhaps you didn't, but many did ask for larger worlds to explore in games. Skyrim was the success that spawned the new focus towards really opening up the game worlds we can explore(in recent years at least), so if you dig the more expanded levels in games following late 2011, thank it. If you don't, then oh well. Games are gonna keep having open levels or just outright be open world.

And I've got no problem with that.

Yeah, but people miss the point. Just like they missed the point with Halo, or Gears of War. Just because a crazy successful game has a particularly identifiable style of gameplay doesn't mean it's just one element that made it a success. Look at all the GTA clones, too.

I felt the same way. Often, if I see too many things that are the same or very similar, it can get boring. At first I liked the rifts, but after the 5 millionth rift, I didn't want to see any more. :P
