Why after picking up samara am I being forced to drop everything else I planned on doing while on illum (including recruiting thane), and basically not allowed out of the ship except to talk to TIM and be forced into taking the collector ship mission? It feels like plot railroading. Would the same had happened if I had gone to find thane before samara? (dependant upon number of recruited squad?) I understand the "limited time" that the ship will be disabled, but I can't even access the galaxy map and put off talking to the guy.

I'm worried about this stuff happening :( Just did Horizon. At least the pacing of ME1 was easy to understand (AKA don't go to Virmire).

Yeah, this was kind of annoying. I was headed to release Grunt from the tank, and then 'Oh, TIM wants to see you."

The game has been out officially for only 2 days. Plenty of people didn't know about Virmire only days into its release. Same deal here. Basically, any time TIM wants to talk to you, something big is happening and you've got to take care of it. So don't go talk to him until you are sure you're ready to advance the plot past the present phase.

It's called railroading, and it's my only complaint with ME2, basically if the Illusive Man wants you to do something, you do it, no matter how much you complain about it.

However I will say this, by doing those things it opens up more options so it's not totally bad.

Is this the case with the collector ship? Can I do all the other missions (recruitment, loyalty, N7, etc) I want before I talk to TIM in this case? I knew it was with Horizon... but is it with this? I really hope so :)

Oh you know what, I was thinking of the Reaper IFF. That's the Virmire of ME2, the point of no return.

If you go to the Galaxy Map wihen the TIM wants to talk to you, you have no choice. Fortunately before the Reaper Derlict you have the option of saying "We need to build our team" before actually going on it. Horizon and the Collector Ship... not so much.

??? You mean Comm Room, not Galaxy Map, right? I could still do things even when TIM was ready to speak with me before Horizon.

Well you're doing main missions, you have to expect the plot to kick in at some point rather you like it or not. It's basically in every similar video game. Annoying yes, but common.

Not in the majority of RPG style plots I've experienced. Mass Effect 1 for example, I could do all I wanted until landing on Virmire (or Therum if I left Liara til last).

I'm just wondering if the 'point of no return while having a full crew and squad' is before the Collector Ship, before the Reaper ship, or before the Omega Relay - and if its a sequence that is unavoidable and thrusts me into the plot. I read something about how you should go to the ending quickly (preferably with all needed upgrades) if you want the crewmembers to survive.

Nonsense. There will eventually be a point where it's either "Let's rock these collectors" or "I need to continue gathering my team."

I hit about 35 hours and all my people survived, I'm not sure if you consider that quick or not.

My god that ship was hellish on Insanity. I was lucky I did a boatload of upgrades right before activating the mission.

I'm not talking about that...

I'm meaning when the Collectors attack Normandy and everyone is abducted, I've heard that if you take too long (as in doing too many things, not 'game time') to get them back, its too late to save them. I may be wrong about this, but its what I heard. OK?

Haha, I was playing just Omega on Hardcore by accident, and the whole time to my roommate I was going "What the hell??!? Mass Effect 1 wasn't nearly so difficult? I'm dying in 3 seconds whenever not in cover!!".

I felt foolish after. I'm not a big shooter player so I'll stick with Normal-Veteran :P

I do wish the Collector leader would shut up though.  I've been listening to him brag for the last two hours constantly.  God that was annoying.  I also hated the fact that he knew the enemies that were about to die and assumed control of them giving them back full health.

I can't imagine that on Insanity 0_o. It was bad enough on Horizon playing Normal for me. I really like the whole 'assume control' and bragging thing going on, but yeah, it must get annoying!
