Anyone know what that's about?

Perhaps they are preparing for the servers to go offline? Maybe something with the authentication of DLC so you can keep playing after the servers are done with.
No idea if that is the case, or it's something to prepare the game for safe file transfer to something like the Keep from DAI. They said when that launched that they planned to make something like that for more Bioware games.
Realy have no idea, just something that would make sense for me as a reason for an update to a game of this age. Although it isn't new to get an update for an 'old' game, plenty of games 2 times the age of ME got major updates even.
Edit: typo

Except that Mass Effect 1 has no DLC authentication involved. I'm really puzzled by this update! ![]()
Maybe it's an HD asset update...
... nah, kidding. But one can dream, right? ![]()

Yeah, I started getting this about a week ago too. Very curious!

6.54 gb?? that is... big considering the size of the game.
Edit: after examining what files changed (nothing much, as far as I can tell) I think it just wanted me to redownload most of the game for some mysterious reason ![]()

Yeah, I immediately suspected it was just some Origin glitch that made it want to redownload the whole thing for no real reason. No way there'd be an update or such with a game this old. Thanks for semi-confirming it, though ![]()

From EA Answers HQ/Community Manager:
"Sorry, I wasn't able to get any info on this.
I'd speculate that it was something to consolidate different builds, or get rid of a discrepancy on the backend. Perhaps after the update your version was out of date or perceived as damaged, so it redownloaded existing content to bring things in line. This is just speculation though."

It's just frustrating that BW / Origin did not include a pop-up window explaining the update. This is definitely not customer service. Although, I am glad that the patch installed itself so easily from Origin, in that I didn't have to stumble across it on some obscure twitter or fakebook page.
BW - if you are listening - please make an announcement about this new download update. I really want to know what is going on.
BTW - I didn't see the size of the download. I play the ME Trilogy PC version in Windows 7.

Hi all.
I just received the the same update when I launched Origin today. The next thing I noticed is that 4 Add-on Bonuses for ME-2 became available for FREE!
- The Umbra Visor
- Sentry Interface
- Recon Hood
- Terminus Weapon and Armor pack
Have any of you had these same bonuses made available, when you click the "i" [Info] icon for the ME-2 file presented by Origin?
Perhaps the differences in the download sizes are due to whether you have already purchased any of these packs before.
Just wondering.

Something similar happened with the DA games a while back, where all pre-order bonuses became a free DLC for everyone.

Investigating this issue further, these items are from the promotions for ME-2:
- The Umbra Visor,
- Sentry Interface,
- Recon Hood,
- Terminus Weapon and Armor pack.
from:
Gamestop
7-11 Big Gulp
Dr. Pepper: Promotion 1 and Promotion 2
All the files were sorted and dumped into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Mass Effect 2\BioGame\DLC\DLC_PRE_Gamestop\CookedPC
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Mass Effect 2\BioGame\DLC\DLC_PRO_Gulp01\CookedPC
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Mass Effect 2\BioGame\DLC\DLC_PRO_Pepper01\CookedPC
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Mass Effect 2\BioGame\DLC\DLC_PRO_Pepper02\CookedPC
Plus:
Activation64.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Mass Effect\ Binaries\Core
I don't know the size of the files that were originally auto-downloaded by Origin when I logged in, but when I backed up the program files for ME-2, after downloading the free promotional packs, 92 files were added to the ME-2 program folder in C:\Origin Games - for a whopping 26.89MB
So - these seem to be freebie gifts that BW didn't announce. Still, thanks BW for the gifts. ![]()

I think you probably got it before hand and had nothing to do with this update.
EDIT:
Hmm, now I see in the DLC list for ME2 in Origin that the aforementioned items are indeed free. Thanks BioWare. Would've been nice while I was playing ME2. LOL.
