So, what about a full-blown melee combat system?

Yes, I know this is a Shooter game, but it could include this. Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron was a Shooter that had a couple of melee weapons (probably not the best example, I just don't play many Shooter games).

There's been lots of threads that debated the realism of melee in Mass Effect, and to what degree realism even matters in that regard.
For my part, I wouldn't mind, but I've been informed that's because I'm trying to turn Mass Effect into something it's not, or shouldn't be.

come on man we've been down this road before. I'm all for more melee personally but it's still a shooter. I don't think you'll last long with melee alone. I personally want to see more martial arts techniques and fight scenes. Maybe some Jeet Kune Do, Silat, or Brazilian jiu jitsu.Instead of simply melee/heavy melee attacks. I mean, having actual equipable melee weapons. Any thoughts about this?

Melee is something they've been trying to boost up, and something they successful made viable during the support of ME3 MP.
I'd personally like to see the ability to equip many of the different melee abilities that we got in ME3 MP and for the melee builds in the passives to get more love.

I'm all for it, I always thought it was funny in the trilogy because you do a little rifle butt to the chest and you go flying back a mile (Got better in 3) but I feel like they could make it seem like legit CQT, like for example, Uncharted, their fist fights feel like satisfying and cinematic. I just need a REALLY good reason why I should choose Fist to fist other than a weapon.

Fighting Phantoms in ME3 would be a good reason IMO, would be cool being able to switch to a melee weapon and engage 'em in close quarters.I'm all for it, I always thought it was funny in the trilogy because you do a little rifle butt to the chest and you go flying back a mile (Got better in 3) but I feel like they could make it seem like legit CQT, like for example, Uncharted, their fist fights feel like satisfying and cinematic. I think it should be limited by what class they choose. Most of the classes are run and gun but Vanguard, with the Biotic Charge ability, would greatly get a boost by being able to do some extra moves, like locks, holds or even just disarms followed by a couple smacks with the hands/knees.

If they add swords, hope we can dance in combat like Geralt does.

Bayonets plz, nothing quite as satisfying as skewering an enemy with the blade of one's rifle ala Gears of war 3.

A more melee focused vanguard would be amazing.
The only classes it makes sense for are Vanguard and sentinel.
I would like to add a large battle axe to biotic charges animation. I just think it woyld lok awesome.
Punch, swing axe, biotic axe charge. Head rolls off like sentinel attack in ME3.
Combine with nova and you've got the beginnings of transferable combo attacks based on your powers.
No need to go Batman about it. But compliment existing powers and weapons and shields with some melee.
Should never move away from being a shooter and should never move away from power combos and detonations.
But it could be nice.

Melee is great.
Any and every one that doesn't think so are a bunch of quadless pyjaks.
Pyjaks will be eaten.

Vanguard would be great, charge in and melee the enemy and then charge away. I wouldn't mind seeing more of a melee focus for some of the classes.

The way phantoms behave now that isn't such a great idea. At least based on MP game play. Their ability to stop a gigantic Krogan wielding a hammer the size of a small car in mid-swing is just beyond belief. If the mechanics were changed then sure, but that would require BW addressing this cheap tactic and I'm not so sure they would go that route.

I wouldn't mind this.
But at the same time, they should improve biotics too. Massive physical force and environmental damage and heavier objects lifted. Pretty much like novels or cutscenes, I guess. I mean, don't make them sitting ducks that you can just punch around. ![]()

Vanguard charging an enemy and stick an omni blade right through an enemy's body. Or a biotic fist.

Personally, I'd prefer transferring all my Charge momentum into sending enemies flying off cliffs, into cliffs, though walls, through other enemies... But I'm down for pretty much any take on the basic concept of Biotic Fist Vanguard.
Oh, and licence this song:
Y'know, for the bossfights and such.

I'd love it! I'm terrible at shooters (I play ME only for the RPG elements) and a better melee fighing style would make stuff much easier and fun for me (I'm more of a action/platform gamer) and classes like biotics and vanguards would be good to have these abilities.
Plus, it would just need some tweak and study over some of the ME3 MP classes. One of the things that I hated in ME3 was that MP had those action oriented classes with blades and whips but I couldn't play them in SP, so I never got the chance to try them, since I can't stand play MP in any form.

"Bullet to one's head is the best kind of melee" (don't remember, where from).
But turning back to the subject - I am for the selectable melee weapons (WH40K - style) with both hands.
