I do not know how I do not know why. But at some point, between the first camp and fighting through the Darkspawn nest to the second camp, I lost him. 
I did not notice until the cut scene at the end of the Emissary battle, when Volta and the Inquisitor address a blank space where Ren should be.
Reloading or relocating to another camp doesn't help. Ren is still gone. Does anyone have any fixes for this?
Return to Skyhold, save and exit the game. Now open Origin, right click on the game Icon and choose REPAIR. Let that run, when it finishes, hover over the icon and choose play from there. Go to the first camp in the Deep Roads. See if that gets Ren back for you.
