MEA cover art

I was inspired to write this because looking at BF1 cover art and it being a black male seems offputting since blacks played an extreme minority role in the First World War as soldiers.

I would prefer that they not even show the protagonist on the cover. That's the best way to approach this.
I kinda agree. Doesn't need to be the protagonist, maybe the antagonist (like Saren on ME1) or something.

They could just show the Andromeda galaxy, best of both worlds.

Wouldn't matter much to me but we would probably get a little bit of the "Bioware is pandering to the SJW's" stuff. I would prefer a minimalist style cover. Like a pic of an uncharted world with a parked mako in the distance and three figures standing beside it.

I prefer doing it like Inquisition's.

The odd thing is my favorite BioWare covers don't have a focus on the character like Dragon Age: Inquisition or like the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2. I didn't like the standard covers for Mass Effect 2 or 3 because it felt like they were showing a preference.

There's four ways BioWare could handle this:
1. Box cover art with no protagonist on cover
2. Reversible cover art (like Mass Effect 3)
3. Have both on the cover.
4. Protagonist in unisex armor with helmet on.
Agree with this. I did like the two images on the front and back, but personally I'd rather they left the main character off completely. Showing them implies that this is the face you have in the game.
Actually my favorite BioWare Covers are KOTOR, ok this is my favorite of everything, but I did like the cover. Neverwinter nights, Star Wars The Old Republic and Dragon Age Inquisition. Morrowind's cover made me interested in checking it out and I liked the cover on Skyrim.
For me, if it looks like something I won't be interested in I won't check it out, or I'll check it out after I've run out of games and start googling rpgs or have a friend suggest something. Limited funds, limited time, why pick up something that doesn't look interesting. I had this problem with FA had this problem. I found it a few years after FA3 came out. ME would have been one I didn't check out if I hadn't been here and found out more about it. It looked like a shooter featuring some guy and I'm not interested in those.
Covers are important. They need to catch your interest if you've never heard of it. If you've heard of it your already hooked. Well, probably hooked.

Eh, i feel like i need to add something:
I think showing two humans, male and female, would better represent what ME:A is supposedly about: finding a place for humanity in a new galaxy. Neither a singular male nor female can fully represent that role without the respective counterpart. Both of them back to back, amidst aliens and alien landscapes, wearing helmets that show just enough to recognize them as human beings, would stand for the whole of human race while allowing the potential buyers and players to better project their real selves onto these appearance-wise not clearly defined characters.

They should do the woman because like chances are she will be better voiced. But I don't really care because I download the games from origin. I never really pay attention to the box art.

Actually EA/Dices use of a black soldier for Battlefield 1 is interesting because it does challenge the traditional imagery of WW1 seen as the European powers throwing a generation into the trenches, with European soldiers. But consider those European powers had colonial empires and they did use troops from the colonies, European colonial populations, Indian, Gurkha, Maori and African troops. Also the war was fought in the colonies as well, the exploits of Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck make interesting reading, fighting both conventional and guerilla warfare.
Although the American armed forces had racial policies the French took foreign volunteers into the Foreign Legion, such as the air ace, Eugene Bullard. Again the powers used colonial troops, perhaps even giving them more undesirable tasks and dangerous orders. But I am arguing on the basis of history, our value systems are different, and if we use a non European in a heroic image, well I am fine with that. Especially in its context.
What I find even more interesting is the cape effect and luger pistol, uh wait apparently Mauser pistol. This is a heroic pulp image, of someone using an enemy weapon, not cowering in a trench, or engaged in a massive near suicidal attack on machine guns, but standing posed heroically with a blimp exploding behind him, I can make a story about that, even include the hypothetical exploits of a hypothetical airman if you like.

I like the idea of a male and female figure on the box art, but they are going to have to give consideration to posture and aesthetics, which will lead to influences. Perhaps if they purposely tried to evoke an image in traditional art like Leonardo DiVincis Vitruvian man but with a male or female, and echoing the images on Pioneer.

If they are making the voyage in the context of the Mass Effect 3 storyline, it should not reflect the optimism of the pioneer image, something more paranoid or a warning. Or something else, whatever, I know I am still going to buy the game.

What if Bioware uses a female PC as the cover art lead instead of the traditional male default PC as seen in the original series?
I was inspired to write this because looking at BF1 cover art and it being a black male seems offputting since blacks played an extreme minority role in the First World War as soldiers.
I don't think it matters who ends up on the cover at of ME:A's box, and don't really care who or what Bioware puts on it. I expect that no matter what version of the protagonist ends up on the cover however, whiners will complain. If it's male one group of people will accuse Bioware of sexism and if it is a woman another group will rant about a it being some sort of SJW conspiracy.
Either one of those two groups can also take a long walk out the nearest airlock.
That said, the BF1 cover art isn't out of step with history by having a black character on the cover of a game set during World War One. Around 135,000 Senegalese troops fought in the French Army during the First World War and the U.S. fielded two infantry divisions on the Western Front that were near entirely composed of African-American men. One of the most celebrated American infantry regiments of that war for their heroism were from one of those two divisions, the 369th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters.

Surely you are not surprised? BF1 cover art is designed for the political correct times in the USA.
Showing both, ME:A will appeal to a larger gamer community.

Just put a Krogan on it. It'll sell like hotcakes if they do that.
Krogan gamers would be amusing. Especially if there were PVP...
