oh for the love of...... There is something on the ME 3 game case cover. It's called switch to femshep. Besides only 20% of players are women. If I had things my way there would be two of every trailer with a male and female. Enough of this feminist bull$#!7. Dude you don't get to cry about equality when pretty much every single bioware game not only caters to the lowest common denominator of men, but also features men on the cover of nearly every game they have ever made. Forreals, are you stupid or can you not read? I specifically am talking about PC VA (and I also didn't say every bioware game, but ya know reading is hard). Which yeah they suck, deal with it bro.

Actually EA/Dices use of a black soldier for Battlefield 1 is interesting because it does challenge the traditional imagery of WW1 seen as the European powers throwing a generation into the trenches, with European soldiers. But consider those European powers had colonial empires and they did use troops from the colonies, European colonial populations, Indian, Gurkha, Maori and African troops. Also the war was fought in the colonies as well, the exploits of Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck make interesting reading, fighting both conventional and guerilla warfare.

Although the American armed forces had racial policies the French took foreign volunteers into the Foreign Legion, such as the air ace, Eugene Bullard. Again the powers used colonial troops, perhaps even giving them more undesirable tasks and dangerous orders. But I am arguing on the basis of history, our value systems are different, and if we use a non European in a heroic image, well I am fine with that. Especially in its context.

What I find even more interesting is the cape effect and luger pistol. This is a heroic pulp image, of someone using an enemy weapon, not cowering in a trench, or engaged in a massive near suicidal attack on machine guns, but standing posed heroically with a blimp exploding behind him, I can make a story about that, even include the hypothetical exploits of a hypothetical airman if you like.

The vast majority of combatants were Europeans, so unless bf1 is about colonial nonwhites participating and is revolved around them(African or Indian) I don't see how they could use one for the cover art.

Not to mention that the person on the cover is an American black male and as we all know the Americans entered the war late. Clearly there is a PC agenda to it imo. Why not a real African then?

I don't think it matters who ends up on the cover at of ME:A's box, and don't really care who or what Bioware puts on it. I expect that no matter what version of the protagonist ends up on the cover however, whiners will complain. If it's male one group of people will accuse Bioware of sexism and if it is a woman another group will rant about a it being some sort of SJW conspiracy.

Either one of those two groups can also take a long walk out the nearest airlock.

That said, the BF1 cover art isn't out of step with history by having a black character on the cover of a game set during World War One. Around 135,000 Senegalese troops fought in the French Army during the First World War and the U.S. fielded two infantry divisions on the Western Front that were near entirely composed of African-American men. One of the most celebrated American infantry regiments of that war for their heroism were from one of those two divisions, the 369th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters.

Ah Dutch I truly love your threads(sarcasm), why does it matter whether it's a male or female? You can play as either gender in the game so it really is a none issue. Also one of the most successful American regiments during WWI was mainly composed of African Americans and in addition the French had significant amount of troops who were from Senegal.

So with all this being said my question is this: Why do care whether or not they use a female pc on the cover and why is having a black male on the cover of BF1 off putting?

Because it's inconsiderate to the vast majority of players if it's solely female. Moreover, it's inconsiderate to Europeans with bf1 since the vast majority of lives lost were European.

Ok I think the problem is with you, not a "PC agenda." We have next to no details about BF1's story but you immediately found it "offputting" to see a black dude on the cover art. Even when there are possible valid story reasons for him to be there. Instead of instantly assuming that having a non-white character on the cover of a WW1 game is an SJW agenda against white Europeans, why don't you assume that BF1 could be a refreshing story about people whose exploits during the war aren't often explored in the video game medium?

Equality is worst think you can do in game we have genres for a reason. Different people like different thinks. if you make game for everybody you make game for no one. Why feminist com plane about half naked women in games because it's catering to  different demography. Look at moves I don't watch magic mike because it's not made for me and it's fine. And it's not about different sex likes different thinks. I don't like horror moves, I am not complaining "make horror movies leas scary" I just don't watch it. It's like complaining playboy have naked women, only idiot would do it, oh wait feminists actually do it.

How? I imagine the vast majority of players aren't going to give a single **** about whether or not the character on the cover is female, anyone who is even slightly familiar with the Mass Effect series is going to know that being female is optional. Furthermore Bioware is probably just going to do what they did with the ME3 cover, where if a person actually cared enough they could simply switch out the male cover with femshep and vice versa, you're making an issue out of nothing....as usual. 

 

Again how is it inconsiderate? It's not like they're revising history and saying that the majority of lives lost in WWI were Africans or Indians, by making the cover an African American male they're simply acknowledging the often ignored contributions that African Americans and other minorities made during WWI. Stop trying to make an issue out things that are non issues, honestly you're just as bad as those SJWs and PC police that you no doubt hate.

We don't know for certain, but the US 369th Infantry, an African-American unit known as the Harlem Hellfighters, seem to feature prominently in the game with a bunch of weapon customisations themed after them, so it's not a far-fetched conclusion. On the other hand, he's armed with a German Mauser C96 and MP-18 "Grabenfeger". I think his primary purpose is to look cool, which in my opinion he manages quite well.
