Just so I'm following -- the thread's officially descended into the "just making up b.s." stage now, right? I sometimes have trouble telling.

I'm not going to get involved in the spat in the thread and I'm not trying to be rude, but would some of you guys please take it to PM? Also, unless there is an actual psychiatrist that's willing to chime in, this is going nowhere. I'd rather not see the thread locked because of a debate/misunderstanding or whatever that got out of hand. :(

I thought my made up BS was more interesting than schoolyard tough guy act they had going on previously.

Although if somebody is worried about it being made up BS, I've got some old textbooks and a pen nearby. I can make my earlier statement true =P

It was my understanding that science textbooks only remain 100% legit for a maximum of 1 year and then it's rendered defunct because Big Textbook makes the new edition mandatory. It's a freakin' racket, man.

This is why I'm happy I do programming work.

All praise be to Stack Overflow, the answer to all of my problems I can't be bothered to spend time figuring out myself.

Most of this thread has been one long troll job. I keep waiting for the target to figure it out and stop rising to the bait. I looks like we may be enjoying the brief pause at the end of Round 2. If we're lucky, Round 3 won't come. This is BSN, though; so this will likely end with a once decently intriguing thread closed by the mod.

Well, Holy sweet Jesus.

If he's right, and this is like a larger, more expansive ME1 with updated graphics and controls... Count me the hell in.

Notice that Shinobi never mentioned if the game he saw was played on console or PC. I'm a firm believer in full reporting and that the hardware used for demos must be disclosed.

That doesn't really matter much unless you're talking about graphics quality or performance.

Or controls or UI, but Shinobi didn't talk about any of that either AFAIK.

Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives.

Yeah, well it's some word which means something eerily similar to nepotism.  Sue me.

Yes for Troy Baker.

Same for Courtnee Draper.

Since this thread may very well be locked anyways, I'm going put this in just before the jump, that I'd love to see Courtnee Draper do more voice work in video games! She was incredible. And unlike some other voice actors, doesn't have an IMDB page the length of the Great Wall of China.

Actually the fictitious space wouldn't be enough to give the illusion of being walkable, the difference between the level designing, both in hostile, neutral and allied spaces, is given by the variety of things there are in.

For instance, look at this verist painting

Spoiler

It's basically a standard exotic landscape, not even much coloured, which is in contrast with what it's happening in the middle: the feral rage of the tiger, the buffalo's pain, the struggle between the two (look at the splashes in the waterhole). You can say that, without what's happening in the middle, the painting would be empty and bland, but probably without the fictitious space, that constrasts the action, there wouldn't be any perception of the ambient and what's happening in there.

My two cents.

To create a sense of Scale you don't need the area to give the illusion of being walkable. The council  chamber in ME1 create a sense of Scale by all the negative space the the vast ceilings create. The 'open' area is an illusion but you have no illusions that it is walkable and thus that is why the area seems vast, it appears vast because of the negative space created by making the ceilings appear kilometres above you. Me3 tried to do this with the hospital but it failed because every space you were in was enclosed by walls and a ceiling it was only looking out of the windows do they try scale. They did a good job of negative space at the club entrance looking past the railing but because the lower level was all you saw it didn't create a sense of vast open areas. The lake on the citadel was again another use of negative space that gave no illusion that you could walk there. The illusion of scale was successful by simply making a very narrow and small circular walkway but to have the inner 'wall' be invisible. This allowed you to see most of the pathway across the lake which made the whole pathway around the lake seem vast but it really wasn't.

All this is achieved by a superior level designer, the developer who developed the citadel in ME1 was masterful at making the most of the negative spaces in the citadel as part of the canvas of the level and not something that was hidden off behind ceilings and walls. Which is what most of the Citadel suffered from in Me2 and Me3. You don't have to make the positive space filled with interesting things either. The citadel in ME1 has less going on than me3 and most of the space you can traverse is empty save the odd bit of decoration and npcs. Yet the levels work because it is so well designed to create a sense of awe due to the scale of the citadel and it does so while being smaller than me2 and m3's citadel. Part of the success is minimalist aspects to the Presidium not much is around so you feel like you are walking farther because you don't have so much 'clutter' passing by like you do in ME2 and ME3.

It is a mistake that developer slip into that they feel they constantly have to grab your attention with stuff and bling. Sometimes just slowing the action and the distractions to the player create a big impact. Lulls create contrast that make the action more impactful be it literal in terms of game play for metaphoric in terms of creating spaces to inhabit in the game.

Why would it be eerily similar? Are there ghosts involved?

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I have, yet again, an ominous feeling about  MEA.

I stopped using "I'm a BW fan" some years back, because its irrelevant who works there. I care about magnificent games with stellar stories. So I can say I am a fan of few BW games/titles. But I digress.

All they focus on, insider/leaked info too, is visuals, bells and whistles, huge, great, humongous, super, amazing, blast... which will mean sh!t if the plot and character background, interaction and decisions about NPCs are shallow and meaningless.

People still miss the point why in so many eyes ME3 and DAI failed. I fear MEA is pushing further in that direction. Opportunistic. Trendy. Easy. That is less than I would expect of them... far less.

I bought (in my history of gaming) most of their products. After ME3 I halted with DAI. Havent play it still. I dont feel like it. Same feeling shapes regarding MEA reading investor days scoops, shinobi's insider revelations  and the like.

Shame really, I would love to go back to rejuvenated sci-fi saga.

I once saw it written in a textbook that I'm the single greatest entity that has ever existed in the universe or ever will exist.

True story.

I'm assuming that was a philosophy textbook and that the chapter was about solipsism?
