So, Shinobi said a bunch of things about Andromeda at the NeoGAF forums

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I have, yet again, an ominous feeling about  MEA.

I stopped using "I'm a BW fan" some years back, because its irrelevant who works there. I care about magnificent games with stellar stories. So I can say I am a fan of few BW games/titles. But I digress.

All they focus on, insider/leaked info too, is visuals, bells and whistles, huge, great, humongous, super, amazing, blast... which will mean sh!t if the plot and character background, interaction and decisions about NPCs are shallow and meaningless.

People still miss the point why in so many eyes ME3 and DAI failed. I fear MEA is pushing further in that direction. Opportunistic. Trendy. Easy. That is less than I would expect of them... far less.

I bought (in my history of gaming) most of their products. After ME3 I halted with DAI. Havent play it still. I dont feel like it. Same feeling shapes regarding MEA reading investor days scoops, shinobi's insider revelations  and the like.

Shame really, I would love to go back to rejuvenated sci-fi saga.

I don't think that is necessary true. It's pretty easy to give very superficial details about aesthetics and feelings and explorations without giving any real information. But in the moment you speak about characters or the plot is more likely you slip some information very difficult to forget (i.e. we know we have a Krogan and a blond woman).

That's not a very good cat trap given how much they love being in boxes.

True. Should be more a "Goodbye world" GIF.

Hu?

Of course it matters! The DA:I console to PC port what the Shitz, when compared to DA:O and DA2.

It was bad in the areas of performance and UI.

Which as noted, Shinobi wasn't talking about any of those things. It's not like in the PC version of DA:I Varric was a worse companion or something like that.

I'm assuming that was a philosophy textbook and that the chapter was about solipsism?

I think it'd be closer to narcissism. Maybe a god complex, since the thinking was that me specifically was the greatest entity.

Though I was just bored and messing around, so the line of thinking was that I was the one who wrote it into that textbook =P

No.  I'm sensing large amounts of bait in your post though.

No bait, just making fun of you. You're eerily bad at words.

Or you spoil your entire plot like ME1.

That happened??? :o  (I came into ME world just a couple years ago, I didn't watch any trailer before playing it)

Yeah. They didn't give away the Citadel twist, but they did give away that Sovereign was a reaper (or rather than the reapers were ships).

Haha. I eagerly anticipated the release of Mass Effect back in 2007. I remember checking out the website, reading background info on Saren Arterius, and thinking that their marketing strategy was pretty cool. When the trailers started, I disappeared. Apparently, I made a wise decision. I've stuck with this approach ever since, and I think I always will.

What a shame... it was a really good plot-twist.

I have mixed feelings about what will be the next marketing for Andromeda. I love all the *gasps* I had playing Mass Effect 2 precisely because I didn't know anything except it was the next part of the trilogy. So, I didn't suspect Archangel was Garrus (in fact, I thought they were talking about Thane because he was in the cover), I knew Jack was a woman because of Spanish traslation made it pretty clear (Convicta, duh <_< ) but I didn't have a clue of her appareance, etc.

I don't know how much information I wanna have for Andromeda. Those moments of not knowing were so great... but I can't stand not knowing anything at the same time! :(

ME1 taught me to abandon ship immediately when the marketing starts. I ignore everything. While I can't help finding out some basic stuff just by being into games (some news spreads so much you can't avoid it) I've been able to actually get a genuine experience of the world.

ME1 also taught me to avoid their tie in products - not only are they not good quality they also sometimes nonsensically contradict the game. People mock deception for being a POS but the first ME1 book wrecks Saren by basically making him a pure evil psycho. Everything bad Anderson says is 100% true - Saren isn't a complex character. He's a racist lunatic who went after Sovereign not to save the galaxy but to get a super-weapon to genocide humanity.

And ME3 taught me to put absolutely everything under a microscope.  And take nothing at face value.

I didn't think there was anything to learn from ME3 other than Bioware learning not to let crappy writers design an ending they think is deep without a lot of vetting.

You mean "a single crappy writer and a director," right? Because there was a whole team of talented writers at BioWare's disposal and they were locked out of the ending of the game.

Well, yes.  But if it can happen once, it can happen again.

Especially when said writer gets promoted

I counted Casey as a writer for that one, since he wrote it too.

I think the lesson for us is to not pre-order the game and instead wait for reviews from actual players before purchasing.

What does that change? I don't think ME3 wasn't worth my money - I just think it was a **** product comparatively because of an awful ending, and I think the awful ending retroactively hurt my ability to enjoy the remainder of the trilogy. But that would be true even if I never bought ME3 - the damage was done regardless of how I chose to spend my money. And it's not as if Bioware doesn't acknowledge that the ending was undercooked - they released an extra content/cinematic mod in response to the furor. Doesn't fix that the ending is crap as a matter of concept, but that's still not really a lesson for us.

You said that before, but what does that mean? I just don't get what you're going for here. What were you fooled by? The idea that the game wouldn't have a **** ending?

They've never acknowledged how awful the ending is. They maintained that the problem was a lack of closure. They went so far as to claim that the Extended Cut didn't change anything and instead merely offered "clarity."

I think we're talking past each other. I take your point that people should be judicious in how they pre-order - but Bioware games (except ME3's arble-garble ending) have always delivered what I've asked for feature-wise, and with their B-movie cheesy stories. Except, again, for ME3's ridiculous attempt at being "deep". My point is that Bioware should be learning this lesson.

Choices reduced to arbitrary numbers

Loads and loads of autodialogue

Role playing choices reduced to being sad or p*ssed off when you are graced with a dialogue option.

And yes, the ending which, to call it a cr*p ending, would be an insult to cr*p.

We gonna sit here and whine about it or are we gonna get excited for Andromeda? The endings could have been done better but there's nothing we can do.

Oh yah, I think it happened on 1 and 3.  (I could be wrong)

But I know that it happened on 3.  I came here, saw some people talking about the leaked script and promptly left.  If anyone ruins a game for me, I'mma gonna be pissed.  Especially a BioWare game.
