I suspect it might be something related to one or two buffs wearing off. My bard just died and he was wearing tons of buffs. I had Kaelyn, Okku and Safiya in my party, but it keeps happening with my bard in OC, too. Last time my level 5 bard was in party with Khelgar and Neeshka. It also happens with my cleric. My game freeze usually during combat, if not exclusively, in both OC, MOTB and SOZ. How to fix it?

You've been playing this game for a long time.  Did this just start happening recently?

No, it was always there. Reloading was always a fix. Recently, it got worse, ever since started to play bard and rely on buffs more. It might have something to do with buffs that both cleric and bard have, since it usually happens when I have bard or cleric in my party.

Could also be a sound issue, making it freeze when it tries to play some particular combat sound.

I notice this as well. Not all buffs will make the game lags, but there are certain buffs that do. It is noticeable when your party have buff-heavy charas like cleric/bard/druid and you use lot of buffs. However, it is rather difficult to determine which buffs do this. In my experience, the ones that give you somekind of Spell Resistance are the most prone to game lags and eventually freeze. Also, certain areas are more prone to game freeze than others.

I suppose having a better video card might help. And you can also lower the graphic quality and turn off shadows.
