I agree with everyone about Dorian, and I think he has a high chance of returning in some capacity. He has plot reasons to be involved in Tevinter politics, whether you recruited him or not, he can't be killed off, and he seems pretty well liked overall. He felt like the default best friend character for the Inquisitor, sort of like Varric was for Hawke.

Speaking of Varric, I don't think we'll see any DA2 companions, since so many of them can be dead, and we already had Varric return.

The other character I think we have a high chance of seeing is Morrigan for obvious reasons. And of course, Solas. Not as companions/advisors though.

I don't think we'll see any more Origins characters, since many of them have already had cameos. Maybe Leliana again, since she's an iconic character like Morrigan is. But I think that really depends what role the former Inquisition will have in the new plot line, if any.

Another one for Fenris. Yes, he may be dead. But cmon, those lyrium markings in his body could be used for something, right?

Cole, if he's not busy. He's sweet and a treasure trove of lore.

I'd love to see Cole again, if not as a companion, then, with the Inquisitor, somehow involved in "redeeming" Solas.

For mentors or companions I really don't want any of the old cast returning in that regard.

Dorian - I'd love for him to be involved, but not as a mentor or companion.

Bull - nope, he's too busy banging the living hell out of my Inquisitor down South to be up in Tevinter.

Sera - not just no. Hell no.

Blackwall - currently serving the Wardens for his lie

Cole - I'm ambivalent on whether or not I want him as a companion. I would really like to see him again though in a significant way.

Cass - my favorite character but she's still cleaning house in the South as Divine, so she's understandably busy.

Fenris - literally glued to my Hawke's side after that incident with the Wardens.

Isabela - don't really see her as a mentor character but I'd definitely like to see her as a cameo.

Dorian will definitely be in DA4, whether that is in the form of a team member or just an important NPC like an advisor remains to be seen.  I also think there is potential for a return of Fenris to the party, he knows Tevinter and he would be motivated.   I would like to see a dwarven gray warden as the party tank so far we have had every variation for dwarf but as a sword and board tank.

I just want to see one of the Hawke siblings. Heck, they brought back Leliana, who died - couldn't they bring back Carver or Bethany even if they died in the Deep Roads or Hawke was the wrong class and thus they died via ogre? But it'd be pretty hard to explain that, as well as writing two separate characters depending on what Hawke was (unless they chose a specific Hawke sibling, of course.) Even if as an advisor, NPC, or just a cameo.

Didn't Shale head to Tevinter? I'd love to see her. Companion or not. Same with Dorian and Fenris, both of whom are from Tevinter, so it'd be kind of pointless if Bioware just ignored that. Plus, in keeping with tradition, Dorian would make sense as a companion.

I'd also love to see Harding or Krem as companions. Both were great NPCs, standout really, and I'd love for one - if not both - to be companions. Which, like Isasbela to DA2 and Cassandra to DAI, would make sense for one of them (probably Harding, as she's incredibly popular) to be a companion. (And though it's probably hopefulness/wishing to see whichever is chosen as a fully romanceable companion. Please @ Bioware?)

Isabella is someone I would like to see more of in the next installment. Complete with a bad ass pirate ship. Maybe have a side quest of recruiting some sailors for her crew or something and then have a main quest line mission involving the ship,

Sten was a vastly under played charter. Deserving of further development IMO.

Sandal.... Because... well... gotta love you some Sandal.... BOOM! Enchantment!

And of course there is the big one. I refuse to accept that we have seen the last of Flemeth. Be it the old hag  resurrected  in some DA2 variation OR a Morrigan version that has been possessed by Mythal. I cannot foresee a DA title without that nutty old bat in it somewhere.

Kieran - but no idea how that would work in pt where he isn't even born :(

He's replaced by Stroud Jr., natch. ;)

I guess I'm the party-pooper today. I don't want any fan service or cameos. Total fresh start. Wipe the slate clean. Save the nostalgia for a DLC.

I'd much rather see Flemeth back as Morrigan.

Or that.  :wizard:

I like Fenris, but why would he be in Tevinter? I've never had a Keep with him romancing Hawke; is that where you learn he'd actually be anywhere near a place he seems to loathe?

Mentor or companion.... I kinda thought siding with the Templars was meh, except for Calpernia.

I want a real grey warden. That pretty elf in The Last Flight who helped find the Griffin eggs would be perfect, because we'd get a real source update on Griffins. And he's doomed to a short Blight free life so he deserves some real adventure. And he doesn't have so much fighting experience he can't start from level 0.

Morrigan as Flemyth. Who's to know that well wasn't like the amulet from DA2?

Dorian will be there no matter what as something.

Honestly, Andres and Fenris and all them? I don't need cameos. I just want to know what happened to them over the years. Acknowledged via codex or via a war table operation like Zevran was? I may not have seen Zevran. But I "heard" him in those War Table Operations and that was just as enjoyable.

I think with all the turnover in writers and producers that the new team will want to put their stamp on the series so i expect the prior characters with their writers no longer there to be limited in scope . Since someone from the prior game was a companion in the new game (Oghren in DAOA, Anders in 2, and Varric in DAI) they will most likely go with Dorian since it's in Tevinter.

Mae is gonna be in it, and I hope Calpernia...as for Qunari, I think Sten as Arishok will be involved

At the end it mentions that Leliana was training her best agents so I think that will mean Charter and Harding make an appearance

I'll be honest though, the Inquisitors story isn't over with Solas...no way they remain on the sidelines. I expect the next game to really be DAI pt 2

I don't think Fenris would necessarily be in Tevinter at the start (unless you gave him back to Danarius). But I think he would have plenty of motivation to go. He would be a prime person who would be absolutely opposed to the veil being torn down, but it would be contrasted by his hatred for slavery. And as we haven't seen him in a few years he could have grown into a more compassionate person and want to help his fellow elves still in slavery, but is against Solas' methods.

I don't want Anders to show up. I really like him, and felt like I never got full closure with him (he is my canon Hawke romance), but that closure can't logically happen in da4. And im 99% sure BioWare has pretty much sworn to treat him like he is dead due to the backlash against him.
The only DA2 character I can see having an actual reason to return (besides Fenris) would be Merrill. Due to her dalish heritage and interest in the alternative (pro blood magic, repairing an eluvian, working with demons).

Hey, if Varric can be a controllable party member in two games, Dorian should be one, also.

I suspect Dorian will return as a mentor, though probably not as a companion. I think he'll be acting as the Inquisitor's proxy in Tevinter, effectively running the hunt for Solas there and we'll receive missions from him. I doubt that any other DAI companion will appear. Depending on whether my dual protagonist scenario pans out, I could see Varric getting a cameo.

Now, I could see NPCs like Harding and Calpernia getting a bigger role by virtue of popularity.

Beyond that, I want as many new characters as possible so Thedas stops feeling so small.

Aside from Dorian, the only other character I'd really love to see again would be Shale. I miss her, she always cracked me up.
Depending on the Inquisitor getting a part or not, I'd like all new characters for a new PC but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the old companions if they are involved. Like Cassandra.

It's funny, when I read my own posts from before DAI was launched, I was so sure I'd hate Cassandra as I disliked her in DA2. But now, together with Dorian, they're usually my Inquisitor's bestest friends and two of my favourite characters.

I don't want any past companions to be companions again. Other than that I'm up for bringing anyone back as long as it makes sense.

Fenris could appear as a cameo in a mission regarding slavery. According to Varric in DA:I, if he's alive and well, Fenris spends his time killing Tevinter slavers who prey on refugees. It wouldn't stretch the imagination having him hunt down a particularly nasty bunch of slavers back to Tevinter itself, before they can get outside his reach. He knows the place, after all.

But that's it, nothing more than a cameo or a guest party member. He can be dead or enslaved in some playthroughs, so his possible appearance can't be plot-decisive.

The other Tevinter connected characters whose death isn't confirmed are Dorian, of course, and Calpernia. As for the Qunari, there's Sten, and also Tallis. Iron Bull is tricky; as a Qunari, he can die in Trespasser.

I can't really figure who could play as mentor, but as companions I'd like to see.

-Valta: I like her more than Harding and an dwarven warrior/mage could be interesting.

-Dorian/Maevaris/Calpernia: Just one of them as a companion though, having both leaders of the Lucerni on the party would be wierd and Calpernia would likely join them if she comes back.

-Yavana: We need a smarty on the party, and I'm certainly tired of Morrigan while I think Flemeth is gone now (she wouldn't fit on a party anyway), since Antiva is not really far from Tevinter, I think would be a chance to develop her character.

-Sandal: Not really a party member but rather a craftsman, you know, we need one, and since Dagna ran away with Sera, I think he is the only choice... And yes, I'm gonna give him Salamanders to blow up stuff.

Other than them, I only would mind people as cameos.

I was quite taken with Knight-Captain Rylen. I'd love to see him come back, preferably as a love interest. He's Cullen's very pragmatic second-in-command, so he should have the chops to be an advisor if not a full companion (though I like LIs who do travel with you).

Michel, the chevalier, might make an interesting companion (and love interest).

I also really liked Ser Barris, but as it's possible for him to die, that seems unlikely (though Leliana came back even if she died, and so did Anders...).

Definitely expect to see Scout Harding playing a bigger role, and I certainly hope she's a romance option next time around.
