So dont get this wrong I really like ME3, Just why arent we fighting mercs anymore? Or krogan or stuff like that, And yes you could say the galaxy is falling apart and no one would want to fight you, But as we seen in the aria mercs missions... That vorcha guy planned to behead shepard and carry his head as a prize, And jona sederis planned some revenge after getting out of jail and the Blue suns still smuggle alot of weapons, So why arent we fighting more mercs and krogan in the game?
Mass effect 3 enemy variety?

Mostly because as you said the galaxy is falling apart. Those are small fry compared to the over all conflict involved. Besides if Jona tried anything against Aria's wishes fairly certain Aria wouldn't hesitate to to kill her.

well Enemy Variety could be used with indoctrination to have a good variety of enemies from all factions. In short, ME3 would have civil wars with factions fighting each other and screwing each other.

Well, the merc factions are supposed to be allies at this point through Aria. But at least we have the CAT6 goons in the Citadel DLC. I still think that we should have been fighting a splinter group of the STG that opposed curing the genophage. That would have been more interesting than Cerberus just showing up on Sur'kesh.

The question is: why were we bothering to fight all these merc factions in ME2 when we were supposed to be trying to stop the Collectors? Why is Shepard wandering around the galaxy, landing on random planets, and disrupting merc operations when we should be trying to do something about the Collectors abducting human colonists? ME3 has a much tighter focus on the Reaper War with basically every mission actually tying into the main plot instead of some random side trip to nowhere for no reason.

I can never understand why you spend more time fighting mercs in ME2 than Collectors who are supposed to be your enemy.
In ME1, at least there's still geth cropping up and you are fighting mostly them in the main story.

As I recall you go against the collectors every chance you got in ME2. Merc fights are mostly optional.

You only fight the Collectors at Horizon, Derelict Collector Ship and Collector Base.

Which is "every chance you get." You don't have many opportunities to fight them, but when you do, you do.

In a way you oppose them on Omega as well since the plague is their idea. The purpose is somewhat unclear though.

I imagine it as the precursor to whatever they were poisoning Tuchanka with in part 3. Not a whole lot of sense but better than nothing.

I thought they were running some sort of genetic mutation experiment.

Like I said there's no sense in it but I gotta make it work somehow or the whole thing falls apart.

I wanted to fight that unused Spectre character who was killed by Shepard for trying to kill "not DLC" Javik aka The Catalyst.

If you fight the main enemy of the game too often and keep defeating them every time you run into them they lose rather a lot of impact as an enemy. Variety's nice too.I can never understand why you spend more time fighting mercs in ME2 than Collectors who are supposed to be your enemy.

ME3 have it in tiers too. Easier enemies to harder ones. Unfortunately, they only add more enemies in DLCs especially Armax Arsenal arena. I wished they added Adjutants and Dragoons and also the Collectors into the base game.

Just why arent we fighting mercs anymore?
Probably because Shepard killed the entire merc population of the galaxy in "Mass Effect: Random merceneary-group shooting gallery deluxe", also known under the name "Mass Effect 2".
