I'm dusting off the trilogy for another playthrough (never went through as a pure paragon).  One thing I don't look forward to is the multiple playthroughs to reach max level. Yes, I know it doesn't take that long if I just rush the first playthrough (or two), and yes I know I can just console myself the XP at the end before I make the import save, but I was thinking of way to do it a bit more 'organically'.

The easiest setting to change would be the mako XP multiplier (0.4 by default in the ini). If I crank that up a bit, I should be able to make up the XP deficit to hit 60 at the end. You can get what, level 57 or 58 if you play carefully normally once you've got the achievements unlocked?  I've conditioned myself to killing without the mako in the past that using it would actually be a nice change as well (maybe even more difficult, at least compared with once you get spectre gear).

Has anyone tried this and had any luck with it?  Setting it too high would be easy (and would probably make the early game harder since you'd outlevel the gear available for sale).  Looking for just enough to bridge that last 2 or 3 level gap.

The last few levels are brutal in this game. When you arrive at level 57, you still have 400,000 XP to go to get to level 60. At level 58, 320,000. I did a completionist run where I chose to do all fighting outside the Mako (i.e multiplier = 1.0) and got to within ~250,000 XP. (FYI I have all XP achievements.) To close this gap your multiplier will need to be high. I've not tried this mod myself so I can't tell you what you should choose, but I don't think I'd set a value less than 3.0, and I'd be nervous even then.

Also I don't think you can "outlevel the gear available for sale". The gear should keep up with the levels you are reaching, both in stores and as loot. Higher-level loot means higher selling prices which means you should be able to afford the higher-level gear you are finding earlier in the stores.

If you try this and succeed I'd love to know what multiplier you used.

Yeah, I was wrong to worry about outleveling gear. The drops keep me equipped fairly well. About halfway through, but it's the end that will tell the tale. Went with 5.0. Level up really quickly for a while when you first start Mako'ing things, but the early levels aren't the problem, as we all know.

I look forward to your final report. If I were to try this playthrough I imagine I'd try very hard to get the Mako through that crack on Therum, and I definitely would take out those two Colossi guarding the Conduit. 'Cause neither is cheating IMHO. :)

As I said in my thread, my vehicleEXPFactor is on 5, and I'm currently at level 50 with spectre gear before I've even been to any plot worlds. I've left the Citadel with Tali and Wrex and have done a few UNC missions.  It's fun, but it definitely feels like cheating.
