Yeah, I think that would be a pretty good idea. As pointed out above would have to resolve the issue of what happens when your character goes down, but at that stage just switching to another one seems like it's probably ok. You would also have to have individual key binds. Some balance would be required but I think it would add quite a bit to the game and make your companions a lot more meaningful in combat than they were in Me1-3.
Play as your companions

IDK. Maybe. It was OK in DAI. But this is a story about you. DAI doesn't have just one protagonist.
Nah. The story is about me, or you. Or him. Or her.
Nope. DAI had one protagonist, the Inquisitor. Being able to use the companions in combat doesn't mean that they're protagonists as well. Same goes for the other DA games.
If you'll be able to use squadmates in MEA, they won't be protagonists. Though as I said I don't think it'll be possible.

I don't know if this has already said here. I read a lot of complaints about our protagonist is a human (all over again). However, I was thinking if it could be possible if in the middle of a combat we can switch to any of our companions and play as them, Dragon Age style.
I know DA and ME have two different approaches to combat (ME is more a shooter), but I think you can keep shooting enemies as your Krogan companion, or your biotic subordinate plus using their powers.
What do you think?
It would be nice, but even nicer would be to actually be able to play as aliens in alien motherships, speaking an alien language, suffering prejudice from other aliens (including humans; imagine playing a Quarian!), being a part of an alien society, with a different way of life, traditions, habits, etc.
We don't even have to be an alien PC, just be able to swap characters during missions and experience seeing the universe through the eyes of a non-human. I'd really love that.

This - if implemented - would be, in fact, the only viable "DA-style" addition to ME :-))

Please no, I really don't want this to become strategy type deal like DA. Let MP shine in that area, you want to use different races do it in MP.

Fair enough, Though I don't see how it's relevant to the topic of controlling companions.

Yes. As a matter of fact, if Bioware EVER makes a Mass Effect Anniversary Remake, I hope the make possible to play AS the companions on their own histories, like playing as Garrus when he was Archangel on Omega, or as Liara when she and her Drell friend were fighting the Shadow Broker.
I hope they do something like that in MEA.

True. But this is a story about you. It's should be focused on you and you alone.Fair enough, Though I don't see how it's relevant to the topic of controlling companions.

So because you can controll your squadues during battle that means that the story isn't about your PC anymore?

Strategy?
Yes, strategy. That was the bases of which DA character switching was build upon.

I'd like this a lot and maybe even also have them say a little line each time you switch over like they did in DA Origins.

If this was possible in ME2, i would've played as Zaeed from start to finish.

IDK, I would want ME to stay as far away from being like DA as possible and that means having features that are different instead of being like DA but in a new skin.
I would like for ME to offer something brand new instead of copy pasting features.

I've wanted this feature since ME1. Where do I sign?
Word.
It's mind boggling how they haven't added this feature to Mass Effect when it could placate people who've been asking to play other species in single player.
Just write/copy the action script for the MC, add neutral/utilitarian auto dialog (kinda iffy), and boom: more replay value.

IDK about that, would be more practical and cost-effective to just continue using the MC for dialogue segments.
What would be nice though, is to have what DA2 had with companions, where depending on who you have with you, you can ask for their input in an exchange with an NPC or get them to do something like executing someone.

Yes, strategy. That was the bases of which DA character switching was build upon.
DA2 and DAI are different from DAO though. The options to play it with a single character became better. Having the options to use companions in MEA doesn't mean you won't be able to play the game the same way as the previous ones.
It's a moot point anyway, since it's not going to happen.

No but I'm me. I want to be me. But then again I want to smash people as Krogan. I'm having mixed feeling. Half and half. Maybe a time limit. Most people would play as a Krogan for a whole mission and forget about Ryder. So because you can controll your squadues during battle that means that the story isn't about your PC anymore?

Good idea actually. We play as Joker in ME2 for just a minute or two when the Collectors board on Normandy. ME:A could use the similar concept though I won't prefer going total sideways from the main storyline. Doing stuff while the protagonist is busy with something, playing couple of important crew related missions as a companion would be nice.

I was thinking this when watching a ME video the other day and Shepard died and went to the critical mission failure screen. In KOTOR, Jade Empire and the DA games you can switch to your companions in combat and keep fighting when you are dead. I always did kind of wonder why this is not the case in ME. If they added it in it would be cool, if not I would be fine with it since it will keep in line with the other ME games.

No, I don't think in single player you should be able to character - hop.
As for playing as companions, co-op campaign mode would solve that.
