Overheating CPU and Crashing Problem

I have Dell XPS M1730 laptop, running Vista 32 bit, dual Nvidia GF 8800m GTX cards and dual core x9000 processors which are not overclocked. I also run the laptop on top of a Zalman NC2000 cooler. The GPU drivers are 186.03 (the second most recent). I also have an AGEIA PhysX card.
I'm having the same issues with the game as I had with the Character Creator - the game pushes the CPU activity to 100%, which overheats the computer and shuts it down in the space of about 15 minutes.
This particular laptop runs Age of Conan on highest settings with no simila issues. I was amazed that a standalone program like the character creator caused more overheating than the a full-blown game like AoC and was hoping that it was just a problem with the CC, but that hasn't been the case.
For the brief time that it does run, the game runs wonderfully smoothly on max settings.
Currently I'm playing the game by doing the following which seems to reduce the CPU useage:
- Turning on V-sync
- Turning off anti-aliasing
- Running the game in windowed mode.
- Using external cooling
When the CC was released a couple of other people reported the same problems. I can only assume it is a bug due to the fact that
- The CC caused the same issues and one would expect it to not push the useage to the same levels as something like AoC
- Adjusting the game down to full minimal settings does NOT help
- Running the game in windowed mode actually makes things better, not worse which seems bizarre to me
I know that only a small percetage of the playing population seems to be affected by this. I am hoping that we get some OFFICIAL word on it, as it actually has the potential to cause physical and expensive damage to the affected systems.
For the record, the game itself is fantastic and I'm having a blast playing it.

i would think Malware is the more likely culprit

It is NOT malware, this a known problem.
Anyway try these threads.

Aslong as your temperatures are ok and your fan isn't burning itself out don't worry about it.

Here is what I got after waiting 24 hours for a reply from EA. Some people need new jobs. "Clear my temp file and end background tasks." What a POS incompetent response. Was anyone at EA not dropped on their heads at birth?

I'm looking at this problem with a pretty even temper...can't expect immediate results etc. etc. But answers like the above...they do more harm than good lol
They just inflame an already frustrated population. If you don't know, or can't see the problem, say that! It'll save the plpayer community a couple of anger induced aneurysms

Intel's burn tests are more extreme, and your CPU should survive those too.

Software should not be capable of overheating a component. If your CPU is overheating from DA, you need better cooling.

Very typically, the problem goes back to dirt and dust, and blocked cooling air flow. Laptops, of course, are simply badly designed for game playing purposes, and haven't got an adequate cooling solution on their own. They almost always need a "Cooling Tray" when they have as much CPU & video performance as the original poster here had.
