...but is anyone getting a very Orlesian feel from Toussaint in "Blood and Wine"? Even the accents sound French to my admitadelly less that knowledgeable ears?

If the city is half as large as Novigrad, we may finally have the Val Royeaux we deserved.

All I want is a Witcher game set on Nilfgaard (Tevinter feeling maybe?), starring a new character (that can be fully customized, if possible).

I haven't seen nor heard anything from it yet but if that is true, it would be the final f- you to BioWare from CDPR. "We can make your game, and we can do it so much better!"

Actually, there is a possibility that we can get more Witcher games but without Geralt as the player character. His story is done now, but there is still a lot that can be done in the Witcher universe.

But if anything is to come of it, it will be after Cyberpunk 2077.

Mind you, I am not comparing the quality of either Bioware and CDRP's staff or their products. I happen to like both DAI and TW3 for different reasons.

But I believe it to be a universally shared opinion that Val Royeaux was a tremendous letdown.

I don't think CDPR is trying to show that Bioware suck. They actually seem to be friendly with each other.

The rivarly between CDPR and Bioware is more about  (some) the respective fanbase clashing and pissing each others then the companies themselves.

I like more or less both companies, so I stay out of it and enjoy the discussions/fanwars that follow.

I don't think anyone would really say the opposite about Val Royeaux in DAI.

Oh, so CDPR is now stealing concepts?

Wrong. CDPR didn't create the Witcher. It's based off of the books, which sometimes mention Toussaint.

Evidently it's based on the French. Just like BW based the Orlesians on them.

I'm not disagreeing -- there should have been more stuff to do in an urban setting -- but I am saying that the disappointment of Val Royeaux was a predictable reaction to all the complaining about DA2 having too much urban adventuring, in comparison to DAO.

In many ways, DAI is a reaction (over-reaction?) to DA2.

Hmmmm. You're the Donk, though...

No, the Orlesians.

Not exactly. People never complained about having a city in a DA game. They complained about being the sole focus, expecially when the limite externat areas were full of copy-pasted zones.

Also people did complain already for DA2 that Kirkwall was underpopulated, and that it didn't feel like a real city. So they knew people wouldn't have liked the same thing in DAI.

And I was so hoping they'd expand on it in a DLC

hey, just an FYI for anyone interested in diving into this game series.  GOG.com has them all on mega sale for the next couple of weeks.

ETA:  I feel an obligation to stick up for DAI here, since I just helped promote Gerald a smidge, by reposting one of my favorite dai images.

Really though *why* was Val Royeux a huge let down?  We essentially saw one bit of it from the trailers we were shown over the years.  They did not advertise it, did not tell us anything, did not hype it up, we did that all on our own.  As far as comparing Val Royeyx to Novigrad.  Different design decisions, different themes explored in the game, and different fcus for those themes.

I got a France feel from both, with different flavors honestly.

It wasn't a letdown based on how they marketed it. It was a letdown for going in Orlais, and in the city, without having the possibility to see it more, since there are good chances that we won't return in Orlais for a while.

Just saying the fandom did it to itself (me included) rather then anything the Devs may or may not have done in this particular case.

As far as I understand it's not about expectation or hype this time, but the just how it's rapresented in the game. I wasn't that hyped to see Val Royeaux (interested, yes), and in my opinion they could've done a lot better. I'd have gladly make the change of one open world region in DAI for a better rapresentatiion of the capital of Orlais.

Or have one of the zones be Val Royeux much like how Novigrad was in the Witcher 3.  lol.  Novigrad was probably the best representation of a (fictional) city in a video game.  Probably my favorite thing of the Witcher 3.  Most of my favorite quests were there, it was fun, vibrant, and a nice change of pace from anything that came before and most of the stuff that came after.

You know the France age of chivalry is the biggest influence on a ton of games, not just these two folks...:P
