LOVING DAI, but its blacksmithing SUCKS. Its too much time consuming going to and from like 5 menus T_T Dont get me wrong: what the blacksmith system does is very rewarding, but is the way it was designed that consumes too much time T_T

1- The Inquisitor is a warrior, NOT a blacksmith, I should NOT be blacksmithing, thats what the Inquisition is paying the blacksmith for T_T

2- The Inquisitor(I, the player) should just give the blacksmith the order, like "I want a sword like this, with this, and this" and the blacksmith should be like "Yes your worship, immediately" and do the work the Inquisition is paying him for.

3- Blacksmith Menu Screen for weapons, another for armor, another for weapon attachments, another for armor attachments and the going in and out Inventory-Equipment to compare and what ever....NOOOOOO what a time consuming it is to blacksmith going to one screen to another and the comeback and going to this table, and the other table, and menu!!!! For the next DA make ONE SINGLE MENU(just talking to directly the Blacksmith) for all equip creation, edit and equipment related stuff.

4- New order: I should be able to select weapon/armor, check its slots and check the available compatible schematics to create a new upgrade, or being able to change created upgrades which will be directly attached.

5- Creating equipment(before accepting) should let me compare and preview with the compatible characters.

6- To reduce time consume: all character should only be able to view the compatible equipment. I waste time scrolling throught equipment X or Y CANT use. Hide non compatible equipment in Inventory or crafting(pressing a key to show all or to hide noncompatible).

The blacksmith @ Skyrim was easy to do and much less frustrating. I don't mind being a blacksmith by creating my own weapons but Skyrim does that better than Inquisition.

I'm pretty sure you're not blacksmithing, you're just placing an order.

It is tedious and time-consuming, but isn't that all crafting? I still wake up screaming from nightmares of the runecrafting from Awakening.

Actually, that is essentially what you do. You don't go over to the forge, like in Skyrim, you go over to the crafting station. Also, when Harritt describes the whole process, he pretty much does say that you order things from him and his people. It just has to work out that the player has full control over the crafting process because it's a game, but in terms of the actual setting and world, the blacksmith does make the gear.

My gear will see you through demons, apostates, whatever this world throws at you. So, you need custom work? Something special? You bring the materials to us, we'll make it happen.

...

Our designs are simple, but they get the job done. You want something fancy, bring your own design. We'll see what we can do.

I thought the design was fairly straightforward. The beginning had me confused as heck but it became rather simple the more I worked with it. It was one of my favorite things to do to pass the time, that and matching the tint with companions :D

I'd like it better if it were more like Rift crafting. (the game) You have to learn a skill to get materials, and you can have 3 crafting skills. Every possible companion would need crafting skills or gathering skills.

Harvesting - also makes cloth

Mining - makes bars of metal

Butchering - turns hides into leather

Fishing - provides toxins and oils.

Dream Weaver (to get enchantment materials) - makes sigil, essesnces

Apothecary - potions

Blacksmith - weapons and armor except staves and cloth armor

Tailor - cloth armor and backpacks

Artificer - staves and accessories

Rune Crafting - makes runes

Dream Weaver -makes sigil, essences and, at advanced levels, make dream orbs which offer the enchantment of two runes combined.

Now everyone has a craft and, you could gather up everyone and have some good conversations in the Undercroft while the whole team worked on crafting.

I cannot tell you how much I hate crafting systems like this; it was one of the concerns I had when they announced DAI was going to have crafting. I was quite relieved when none of my concerns were realized.

I've leveled more than my share of crafters in World of Warcraft, so I'm no stranger to doing all of that work. I just didn't want to do it in Dragon Age.

LOL y'all want it too easy. I like exploring and working for what I get in a game. Combat is only a part of the game, I'd love to see more effort needed to become a master at crafting. Maybe because I craft period clothing and other items for the pre 1840 mountain man/native American era. You can't just take a raw hide and make clothing from it, you need to tan it into leather first. You don't just go buy homespun fabric, you have to weave it from raw fibers.

Even if there were dragons and phoenix and such and, we made clothe of their scales, we'd have to stitch or glue them together first. And we'd need to make that glue from hides or hooves. I'd like a bit more effort in the game, not totally detailed and as time consuming as real life but, at least have to use some hides for glue, some plants for cloth and thread and, have to take chides to a work station and make leather before making armor. Metals should go to the forge and be made into refined bars that can then make weapons. Should have to gather wood and mine gems to make a staff, etc...

yeah I quite enjoy the crafting of DAI aswell compared to other RPG's I've played so don't really have a problem with it either.

My issue with crafting if the need for me to go and find materials, particularly post-Haven. I mean, I'm the head of a large organisation, I should have people to do that for me - if I want a sword made out of obsidian, I should simply go down to my blacksmith, tell him what I want, and the Inquisition will get the materials and craft it for me. Having the Inquisitor running around mining and skinning bears is really dumb. The Emporium helps, but why do I have to go and buy the stuff from there? Why can I just send some minions while I'm in the crafting area choosing what I want my stuff to be made out of?

The Black Emporium has a rather exclusive Client list.

Most people say it doesn't exist.....

Isn't this what the Resources war table missions are for?

Except they give tiny amounts and AFAIK, there's a lot of resources you can't get from them. And of course you can't do it from the same place as the crafting, thus leading to more pointless running around.
