To my knowledge, no. Warning points exist to keep track of a poster's history of infractions. I do believe it would be nice to see points expire should enough time pass that someone hasn't broken any rules, but to my knowledge they remain as a reminder to not do whatever it was that earned the point again. At least I believe thats the intent;from what I can tell people don't take the points seriously, some even trying to earn more of them just because they can.

well i do not have my warning point ten months but it doesn't bother me at all i kinda like mine it says that i am a little rebellious and again i kinda like it  . 

 

edit. so i do not hope that they will expire some day.

Warning points don't expire, nor do they have any specific applications regarding bans or site rules.

 

They are, essentially, a record of your interactions with moderators that other moderators can use to track your history. It is theoretically used as reference when determining response to "borderline" infractions, or determining the response to severe infractions (using the history to check the extent to which the infraction represents a pattern of behaviour.)

 

This part is pure speculation/opinion: If you're sitting on five or fewer warning points, and you have been a member during at least two of the significant "upswings" in the number of active moderators, then you are probably well under the radar. I have no inside information to support that hypothesis, it is just an educated guess based on older discussions with moderators (when that was permitted) and observations of how things work over the last few years.

I have bin to other forums as well and in some of them the Moderators reply to posts and topics as well and i kinda liked that can you tell me why they don't do that here ?

Having one point really will not negatively affect you. And you won't get any more in the future, right?

Because this forum is/was toxic and now only the brave moderators and BioWare employees ever come here. And of course, they have their own lives to be getting on with. You can't expect them to be here on the forum 24/7 replying to topics.

Well on other forums the Moderators do reply to topics and posts and i bet they are not online 24/7 and they also have their own lives so how do they do that then. And you are not replying to every topic and every posts on this forum here either. Because that would indeed take you 24/7 to reply to them all. Just reply to some of them that's all i ask just the ones that they would like to reply to.

Most of the moderators not permitted to just join in conversation, and I'm in nursing school so I rarely have the time.

To be fair, the points can be a bit arbitrary, since they are given by human moderators and humans are arbitrary. I only have two points and am in no way bitter about them (...) but they were for minor infractions that I have seen committed dozens of times on these forums. And I would say that perhaps those other offenders were also given warning points, except my posts were deleted or edited to remove the infraction and the others weren't, which indicates that the remaining infractions just go under the radar.

 

So while most of us (including me!) aren't actively trying to get points, the only way to guarantee not receiving more is not to post. /goody two shoes who hates perceived punishment rant

Wait, so are the moderators volunteers or employees?

Why on Earth would you volunteer to do a job and agree to the stipulation that you aren't allowed to contribute to the forum?

It is somewhat understandable if you are an employee and getting paid by EA, but in a voluntary position?

This seems to be similar to the official xbox forum, where a moderator was removed because he was too active within the community there. He believed that the best way to get people to behave was to be an active presence. Microsoft didn't like that though, firmly believing it seems that their moderators (volunteer or paid) should act as silent overseers.

Kind of shocked to find out that it is the same here on the Bioware forum.

I know we've had volunteer moderators at least since the BSN was created in late 2009. I'm fairly certain they were around during the old BioBoard days, which started in 2001 around the release of Neverwinter Nights, but I don't know for sure since that was before my time at BioWare. The BioWareMod## paid moderators have been around for about 3 years now but we still have a few active volunteer moderators. The other language boards, French, German, and Polish, are a mix of volunteers and local community managers but I believe they are primarily moderated by their volunteer mods.

I just find it a shock that the volunteers are not to allowed to just join a conversation. Why would people who obviously enjoy the community willingly not allow themselves to be a part of it.

EA/Bioware obviously trust them to fairly moderate the forum, so why don't they trust them to keep that going and join in with people?
