A lot of people have been concerned with the amount of "original" Mass Effect developers leaving over the past 4 years. Producers, writers, and animators have moved on, and a big chunk of the fandom are worried that Andromeda will "never be as good" as the original trilogy.

Well, hear me out.

Naughty Dog had a huge falling out a few years ago, resulting in a lot of people leaving, including Amy Hennig, the creator of Nathan Drake and brainpower behind the Uncharted story. Even Alan Tudyk was motion capturing for a character and they scrapped his part, and he was all butt-hurt about it. (Search google, Alan Tudyk + Uncharted 4, and you'll find all the butt-hurt.) So, needless to say, tons of ND fans were majorly concerned.

After playing Uncharted 4, I'm left in awe at how great it is. It's different from the trilogy, yes, but it's more brilliant because of all the love and time gone into it. It still had that lighthearted and adventurous feel to it, though it was deeper into character development and conflict. It was apparent that ND took Nathan Drake and made sure his last adventure was everything the fans wanted.

To say the least, I'm not worried about Andromeda at all, considering it's been in development for a long time, and from the dev's tweets, it sounds like they are putting the love, time, and effort that'll please most of the Mass Effect fandom. Devs have moved on, but as far as we know, there's been no falling out and scrap and re-write like Naughty Dog, so that's a HUGE plus right there.

I'm excited. And you should be too! :)

End soapbox.

And I agree, especially because I think those who left did it after they finished their job on MEA.

Thanks for the optimistic post <3

According to glassdoor.com, BioWare hires a lot of people on a temporary basis anyway, so employees coming and going doesn't mean that much. If you liked DAI or ME3, chances are you'll like MEA.

Bryan Johnson recently touched on this topic briefly over on the Secret IP thread...

Things are a lot more publicized these days, but the attrition is not much higher than it normally has been.

Way back you would get information when someone like Peter Moleaux left because he was basically the face of the company. 5 years ago for example the director of my department left, but outside of the people here, I am sure no one even knew about it. That being said if they had announced it then it would be part of this allusion that the entire company is leaving.

yeah I'd imagine it's fine as most aer likely writers and the story is likely written by now it's just a case of puttin gthat story into the game and designing the levels.

I don't think it's such a big issue, at least on this forum. There are a few people who are quick to see news of a person leaving in a very doom-and-gloom manner, but I have a feeling it's for the most part the same members and not representative of quite so many people as it may sometimes seem.

Nonetheless, it's a well-written post that I fully agree with :)

It's nice to see a positive post on the matter, and not the usual doomsday predictions. And it's also nice to see some Uncharted 4 and Naughty Dog praise here, because that game was stunning all around. What I loved most about the story and the writing in it was the subtlety, like that

Spoiler
later in the game, and it made me wish Bioware would learn a thing or two from it.

Anyway, I personally am excited for Andromeda, and I never take the naysayers seriously.

I'll get excited when we have information about the game =P

but as the quote from brojo points out: This really isn't an oddity. People leave companies all the time and especially in the development industry, people are constantly moving around.

The main reason why this would be publicized is because BioWare is a well known company and people love clicking on doom and gloom style news.

Somebody quitting their job generally shouldn't be considered news.

If you wanted to make me go panic, congrats! You achieved it! Because these two examples aren't that great to pacify someone in here now, especially the second one.

I like DAI and love Mass Effect 3, soooooooo....

But I absolutely want MEA to be significantly better than either.

It would be better if Bioware recognized that SP is all drama.  Just put something out and focus on the MP.  IMO there has been a decline in quality since certain events.  I will go in with an open mind and am interested in seeing what they came up with and how it is received by the fanbase.

I would say they should just make the next Mass Effect MP only.

but I live in the same province as BioWare HQ and don't believe I would escape the blast radius after the fanbase is done with them.

DA:I base game at least, was boring. If you want fun stuff, then buy DLC,otherwise welcome to just another generic MMO.

ME3 on another hand, sure was fun to waste your time(and more casual player you were, then it was heaven to you considering how almost zero difficulty it had) and lets not even go with ending in here that has been re-discussed over and over again of how you shall waste hours and hours trying to gather all of the allies only so it doesn't have much of an impact regarding ending besides will party that was with you get wiped or no.

And the higher ups buttin' in because their ideas are way more cool screwing a writer's original idea.

It was pretty good. Now that MEA has one of naughty dog's people I have no doubt that the animations will be fantastic. No more sloppy animation and mocap.

While its entirely possible that Andromeda isn't very good (hopefully not though), some devs leaving is not likely to be the reason for it.

They've all been good so far. No reason to believe it won't be good now.

I disagree. Not on the difficulty, because honestly, it's not that challenging. But I liked the game, I liked the story of gathering allies, and while I didn't love the endings, I had enough fun and continue to. For me, the save import MADE Mass Effect, and 3 did a decent job trying to accommodate your choices. (Not a great one, I mean, yikes, Rachni. But the little things being different are pretty awesome.) I also appreciate the fact that we actually GOT an ending choice that made an actual difference -- even if that's part of the reason we need to flee to a whole new galaxy. The Mass Effect trilogy is still in my regular set of games, because I genuinely enjoy it despite the passage of time.

I spend most of DAI doing silly things to my squadmates, so I've gotten my moneys' worth out of it. I should probably settle down and do a legit, completionist playthrough instead of faffing about and smacking into things until I bounce to the next part of story by brownian motion.... Buuuuuut I have fun, so eh.

I do get sad when a favorite takes off, but I'm sure their replacement will try not to set anything I love on fire too much.
