Oh lol that is not the same thing that i was thinking of what s/he would do.

No true but you can say the same thing about the hair that's not very good either and there are more things when you create your character that is not very good.

;)  sometimes the eyebrows looked particularly strange - sometimes there are none!

LOL.

It was all supposition.  I've never seen a wombat on LSD, nor have I ever ridden one.

I would not recommend riding one either they are kinda short. You could ride one if you like but you need to be very short ( with very short legs ) and a lightweight or else they will go through their legs. I don't think they could hold you if you would be around 190 pounds   ;).

Yeah, this is the big one. I love ME1, but I definitely do not love its combat. There's some things about the old one I like, particularly certain biotic powers, but the gunplay is vastly superior in ME3 I think.

Is this game so perfect to a lot of you that there is only one or two or three things that you want to change about ME 1 ?

Because i am maybe half way through the game now ( not sure though ) and i already want to change more then a lot of you.

There is a lot I would change. DuskWanderer started a thread in the ME3 forums titled If you could change anything.... But that thread applies to the entire series.

So for simplicity, here is what I wrote in that thread about what I would change in Mass Effect 1. NOTE: I have removed some information since it contains spoilers for ME2 and ME3.

DISCLAIMER: I'll also be up front: Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game of all time, and my knee-jerk reaction would be to say "Make Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 3 like Mass Effect 2." So I will try to avoid that and try to keep each game separate and try to not make too many changes to the games to make them like Mass Effect 2. As such, I will try to keep my changes within each game themselves and not purposely try to make it like ME2.

Mass Effect 1:
  • Remove the paragon/renegade system. ME1 forced you to put points into Charm/Intimidate talents instead of more useful combat talents just so you could persuade a few people; although at least one Intimidate option made you kill someone. A dialogue system for persuading people only works if you can avoid all combat just by talking, and the Mass Effect series did not do that.
  • Simplify the skill trees. 10 points instead of 12. No unlock requirements. Basic at 1, Advanced at 5, Master at 10. (To compensate, I would reduce the max number of talent points received.).

  • Reduce the number of equipment upgrades (mods, armor, weapons, and so on), say from 10 to 5. Keep the number of armor and weapon mod slots to 1. Remove the super mods (like Medical Exoskeleton) that combined a bunch of crazy bonuses. I want the mod selection to be more meaningful. For example, make it so you need to choose between heath regen or cooldown reduction (instead of both with two mod slots or Medical Exoskeleton).

  • Add more Batarian enemies to the game.

  • Make Elias Halliat a Batarian.

* * *

There is actually a lot more changes I would make. Here are a few more:

  • Remove the XP penalty for killing in the Mako. (You earn -50% less XP for killing in the Mako.) I hate the fact that the developers give you a cool tank to use, then design environments and sections and encounters specifically for the Mako, then punish you for using the Mako.

  • Make it so we could actually reach the max level in a single playthrough. Even with all XP bonuses and all DLC, you can only reach level 58 of 60 in a single playthrough.

  • Ability to reassign talent points (Shepard and squad) and select/change bonus power during a playthrough.

I have other suggestions, but then we are getting into how much I prefer and love the ME2 combat mechanics and want to make ME1 play like ME2. (I do not think ME3 combat is as good as some other people think it is. But I will not get into it here.)

There is a lot you could change, but I really liked ME1.  I enjoyed all of the crazy armor types, guns, omni-tools, biotic amps, mod slots and managing them all for myself and the gang.   I even liked the inventory system, as crazy as it was (admit it, carrying 150 guns items was a bit steep).  Getting a Geth Armory license opened up really cool armors for Wrex and guns for Tali to take on her "loyalty mission" (if you will).

The most of what I loved about ME1 had to be the "feel" of it and the story.  Humanity was joining the galactic community and presented with an unlimited future, with new worlds and colonies and unknown dangers.  We had to step up and earn it by working with Aliens - and the story makes them sound all the more human.

In ME1 and ME2 I enjoyed the idea of discovering the existence of the Reapers as well as preparing to fight them.  I like those games so much that I don't want to change too much in them.

For me, it's not a matter of considering that ME1 is "so perfect" but more a matter of respecting that it's a story game not written by me... i.e. one that merely allows me some liberties in making choices that make me feel like I'm more a part of the story they (Bioware) was wanting to tell at the time.  I also don't think there is really much point in continually criticizing and effectively wishfully completely redesigning a game that was released nearly 10 years ago.  A lot of the combat and resolution complaints etc. were vastly improved upon in ME2 and ME3.  Various areas of the game were expanded on as the company was able to spend more in those areas given the profitability of ME1.  Some things worked against them as well (e.g. EA buying them out)... but in the end it's all ancient history.  I enjoy ME1 for what it is... despite any of its shortcomings... same with ME2 and ME3.  If I didn't like the game... I'd just be inclined to play something else instead.

(Would like to see them still fix some of the actual remaining bugs... like whatever triggered my getting stuck in the CIC recently... but I don't really expect them to given that, I believe, they officially stopped supporting the game a couple of years ago.)

I think this sums up my thoughts perfectly.

For all its (real or perceived) flaws, Mass Effect 1 still remains a good and enjoyable game. I have gotten used to its quirks and adjusted accordingly over time.

Well, no. If I could I would also fix the narrative structure of ME1, and make it (dare I say this) more like ME3. Where instead of learning about Liara, Feros and Noveria all at once, you learned about them one at a time. You recruit Liara, then you learn about Feros, you finish that and you learn about Virmire, you complete that and you learn about Noveria. Mainly because I think it's ridiculous that Benezia is still hanging around on Noveria months after you learned that she was there. Or that the geth hadn't destroyed Zhu's Hope. And it would make it impossible to do Virmire last since it makes no sense for Saren to be hanging around for no plausible reason other than to fist fight with Shepard (especially when he has everything he needs to go through the Conduit). You would still have the freedom to do whatever you side missions you wanted in between but the narrative wouldn't breakdown because of "freedom".

Other than that and the combat there's not much else I would change about ME1 except making Shepard less stupid when it comes to the Genophage. Maybe I think of something else.

I'd get rid of the Mako and get rid of the planets.  The combat needs to be faster and I'd remove the skill points towards weapons.  I'd junk the midi-like sound effects and contemplate junking the Virgil theme song.  If the theme song remains, it needs to be re-recorded and not sound like synthetic crap.  Then, I would chop up the Citadel to smaller locations and remove the elevator loading sequences.  The conversation system needs to be updated and should have more structure to them.

I don't really miss them. Hehe. I think it's much better to implement some multiple people conversation system instead of having Shepard a passive audience to his party mates banter.

As far as the planet goes, I'd rather land on mini city hubs than deal with the floppy mako.
