Very annoying when I see high level reaver with that thing from ppl I know they have decent stats as well as hakkon´s valor :D

This is true.. I saw a rever (level 18) running with that axe and just doing basic (spinning) attacks.  I'm thinking you should be using Dragon Rage man.

Also, I read about the Drakescale armor which you get as reward after 1 million xp for a given class. It has higher armor than other class armor, but no bonus like +x% melee defense.

So is it worth it for the higher armor rating?

For some characters I wear it just for aesthetics.  I wear it on my Arcane Warrior, so I don't look like a aluminum foil wrapped circus member.  (But the other AW armor looks good too.. the moose, can't touch this, pants).  I started wearing the drakescale on my Avvar too, since I felt like the extra 7% armor or so was probably worth it.. even though it makes him look like a scary corpse.  Wear it on my duelist, and I think that is it.  I like the design of the original armors better.

Right, you bounce off them but deal damage if they block you. You can knock them down if they don't block you.

I feel like a tool, this took me way too long to figure out.

I still tend to start my most of my chars in Threatening. Almost got vote kicked last night as a lvl 1 Avvar. 5 medals and first in exp with a bunch of lvls 20's. If my kids weren't asleep I would have slapped on my mic said promote suckas!

With Rage Upgrade, Perilous is not so hard. You just have to keep/use the skill flow and use / time your abilities.

My new fav class. So fun....

As a fairly new player to MP and having platyed mostly with the Avvar, I also feel that he is quite squishy.

How much of an improvement will I feel once I craft the War harness armor (T2)? Its 119 armor compared to the 76 on the base armor, will it matter alot?

Also, is it not possible to craft armor upgrades, can you only get them from opening chests?

Craft the T3 armor... after you crafted the War Harness... do the War Harness (theme) one.  It has 16x base armor and is purple.

I also felt Avvar was squishy if you look back to this thread earlier.. but I was pointed out the error of my way. :P   I think the most important thing I learn from this thread is to upgrade KM.  You charge a group of enemies (gain guard and ready KM for ice) now smash that group with icy KM.   The smash gains more guard (now you are at least 50% if there are 3 or more guys there) and it gives you damage resistance for 24 seconds.     24 seconds is plenty enough to do your chores and ready for the next charge/KM to rebuild your guard/damage resistance.

Never put Drakescae on Izzy.

Keep her in her original, let her get downed, and when she starts crawling, it's clear why.....

Let me start off by saying that I love the Avvar.  This thread is my current favorite thread on BSN, and a lot of that is due to the fact that lcneed has gone from disliking to enjoying playing as the Avvar.  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who hasn't already done so should accept Pronto as somewhat of an authority on the subject of Avvar, only to be out-knowledged by me (his totally still superior-to-him mentor).  Pretty much everything he said in this thread should be considered as doctrine on the matter (mostly because it came from me first  ;)).

I would also like to point out that Lady's Wrath should always be activated the instant it comes off cooldown, unless you are on Nightmare or Heartbreaker and all the enemies around are immune to electricity.  It's also worth pointing out that while enemies are being hit by Lady's Wrath, any other abilities you damage them with (e.g. Korth's Might, Crushing Leap) will add an extra tick of Lady's Wrath damage on as well.  Hooray for obscure random damage!!!  Lady's Wrath OP!

Also, fight through walls every opportunity you get.  AoE warrior OP!

Let me finish by agreeing with this post right here.

Avvar is definitely the best mage in the game.

+1 good sir.  +. 1.

Avvar is becoming my favorite char together with Reaver. I've just finished a NM PUG with him. The other 3 players were routine players who went to fade almost as soon as I've put the flag.

Even being chain knocked out by lots of despair demons, Ladys Wrath keep ticking and killing.

Hakkon Charge and ice smash into a group of mobs with LW active also does a lot of eletric damage. Blue and purple numbers popping up like crazy.

Ok, wasn't going to post this incase I was not believed but here goes since the masters are on the forums again.

Nightmare, FC.  Demons.  Zone 4.

Big pack of Rage Demons (the big ugly FIRE ones)

There were some normal mobs around them, so first I plan to clear the normal mobs with CL, then HC/KM the Rage Demons. <good plan Silver!>  Why thank you !

Follow me here.... (yes I am 100% sure this is how it happened)

Already used HC/KM on mobs at bottom of stairs so it's on cooldown.

Ran up to the middle of the zone (as fast as you can actually run in this game..... and hit CL....leaped into the air....came crashing down...... BOOM !!

22000 AoE ICE damage...

Yes, CL gave an AoE ICE attack.... W.. T.. F..

We had an Archer, Saarebas and Katari in the group.

Anyone care to explain how this might of happened so I can replicate it ?

Known glitch?

22000 AoE ICE damage...

Were they frozen by the Saarebas? Shatter damage? It's the only reasonable explanation I have.

Reaver and Avvar are the only things I play at the moment, and I gotta say, I love promoting the Reaver so I can get to playing some Avvar.

My best guess would have been along the same lines as Minuos'. I have seen plenty of bugs with damage, such as Pronto's insanely large Deathblow that we couldn't duplicate. Usually they are inconsistencies in damage numbers and not elemental type.

Although I do vaguely recall having a somewhat similar instance happen to me, I can't remember exactly what class I was using (in all honesty, it was most likely the Avvar) or what type of elemental damage was replaced by another.

If you are just starting out, he will be a little squishy. I can't quite pinpoint the moment he stopped being squishy. At some point in your gear/promotes he just 'clicks' and becomes a monster. The trick is to stack HoK and kill things faster than they kill you. And if they do manage to kill you, make sure LW was up.

I roll Hakkon 2h and 2 HoK rings with him because I have lowish Constitution.

He needs to trash talk while auto attacking, it just makes sense to me that some giant avvar should be calling his enemies puny dogs or something while wailing on them.

My Avvar light bulb went on yesterday.

Was raking as a lvl 1. Had to hide a bit on FC zone 4, but otherwise was fine. Naked Korth's might does a lot of damage! I don't know why but I never used it before. I just thought the damage was similar to cold smash I guess.

Got some levels and then lady's wrath/korth's might spam took me to the promised land. Only Qunari shenanigans brought me down.

I would guestimate around 100 of each stat will make him highly effective though perilous (maybe even less if you're a savvy player). You'll need far more to survive in nightmare. I'm at the point now I can one-hit-kill anything but the boss in perilous, but he struggles mightily in NM. He's just squishy as all get out, but he can do some serious damage and is hella fun to play!

100 of each is overkill if we are just talking about Perilous.  Pronto already posted his Perilous solo with no promotions.  Would I call it highly effective?  Not really, but if you have a partially competent team backing you, and you play smart, I would say an Avvar with very few promotions could be considered highly effective in Perilous.  100 in each stat should be enough to be extremely effective in a decent team in Nightmare.  170 across the board is enough to solo Heartbreaker, given the right equipment.

If you have trouble with being too squishy, just remember that line of sight is your best friend, because most of your abilities can hit through walls.  Also, Chilled Defense is very very very powerful.  So long as you use Hakkon's Charge and the follow up Korth's Might whenever it's off cooldown, you should have more than enough defense.

This thread demonstrating how to play an Avvar against Qunari might help.  I do understand that my stats were a bit over the top when I recorded it, and I'm fairly certain you aren't talking about Nightmare, but you should still be able to use it as a bit of a guideline (best to learn to play as smart as possible in lower difficulties, that way when you jump to Nightmare you aren't caught flat-footed and forced to re-learn how to play a class).  Just remember which abilities to use against which enemies, how to cycle through them, and use LoS.

Different playstyles. I play carefully/tactically with mages and some rogues. With warriors, my goal is to curbstomp anything and everything, anytime, any map, anywhere on the map. If I can't hold up (includes bolters), then I'm not promoted enough. Call it what you will, but that's how I like to play and what I consider a measuring stick. Sure, playing with a good team can take a heavy load off of you, but it doesn't mean your truly "effective."

Hiding behind walls waiting for the right moment to strike while the rest of the team is doing all the work is, well, kind of boring imo. But to each his own.

But if the whole team hides and pounces at once it can be devasting and produce quicker clear times.

Saarebas + Avvar for example are brutal together with all that AoE.

True, but it's still manipulating the game's mechanics. My first solo completion, on Perilous, was with the Avvar, and yes I did just that. Anyone can argue for it, and I'm not arguing against it. Try to make that happen in a pug...it won't! I mostly pug.

I've solo'd NM with the Silent Sister (qunari) and I did not employ walls and/or line of sight to do it. I just ran out there and got after it. Sure, she's got a distinct advantage but my Avvar dang sure could not have done it. My point is, I'm sure is a touchy subject for many, that if you have to utilize the handicaps the game gives you, even though at some point in progression aren't necessary, you are effectively handicapped. It's not a "pure" effort. Other games may require you to utilize such things, but this game is not one of them.

Anyhoo, I find it unfortunate that the game is like this--late game teamwork isn't necessary, but it is what it is and I've enjoyed the ride. I'm hoping I can collect my 3 remaining weapons and then I'll likely be done. There's nothing more the game can offer me. I do appreciate the friends I've met and I hope to see them in ME:A!

One is not handicapped. It's a team effort on a team game. I see players in the top 20 do it all the time, esp on HB. You do what works for the crew you have and the situation you are in. And its a tactical option that anyone would take if it gave them an advantage and you would be foolish not to.  Many groups find this method quick and painless and a lot less stressful. Just because its different than how you would do it (solo of not) doesn't make it any less legitimate. If people are running powerful enough characters to not have to, they don't, but the game includes many players that have different skill levels and attributes. IMO these situation encourages team play, which is one of the things I like most about DAI-MP. It's not about four people simultaneously doing solo runs, or at least it shouldn't be. If you want to SP then do the SP game or do the MP however you like as long as you are happy with it.

And as far as your "skills". Everyone started out at the same level and everyone has different ways they do things. The game itself doesn't require a great mind or great "gaming skill", just some patience and time and anyone can climb the ranks quite easily.  This whole "pissing contest" mentality is one of the reasons I usually don't have ANYTHING to do with MP games. They are made for fun and enjoyment. That's is why I really like DAI-MP. After a while you find a great group of people to play with and its so much fun. I have seen the top ten on the leader board playing with NOOBS on Threatening all the time... you know why? Because it's fun. So please but your measuring tape away and just have some fun. SMH
