Why did this appear after trying to like a post. Did that mean i already hit the cap for liked posts in a day or is there some other issue with trying to like a post.

When you hit the like limit, it will state that as being the cause. In your case, try checking to make sure the post you want to like hasn't been removed. Also, clicking the like button repeatedly without giving it time record it can also cause problems.
