Long hair has no place in a hard sci-fi realistic shooter. Luckily we are talking about Mass Effect here, so let's bloody well have it.

Alright, let's put it this way: Do you want your character to be a badass N7 Special Forces person, or a civilian by origin?

I am already a badass N7 Special Force P. Shepard with long hair :P.

And the P. stands for Patricia in case you were wondering  B).

*quietly* and males. Leon S. Kennedy bangs.

Only if they come with Ada Wong and his horrible jokes. I swear in Resident Evil 4 he wrote down all his jokes to tell Hunnigan later after slapping his knee and putting his note pad away.

To those hair 'purists' who say, essentially, "Long hair isn't up to realistic military regs, so it has no place in a military shooter rpg game", I say:

          Phooey

If you really feel this way about keeping it all 'real', have you ever considered the other game activities that aren't realistic in ME?

1) Elite soldiers don't forage for, or mine for, minerals and credits

2) Elite soldiers don't run around playing mini-games on missions to grab loot and upgrades.

3) Humans don't have biotic powers.

4) There are no 'cloaked' ships or soldiers in real life. Camouflaged, yes, but not cloaked. You might as well be demanding that your characters only wear standard military outfits and knee pads, and carry 100-lb. back packs, bed rolls, etc.

5) Elite soldiers aren't confined to using only pistols.

6) Need I go on?

There's nothing wrong with having CC OPTIONS for designing long hair. It's a legitimate request. When we opt to wear a helmet in combat, then it simply won't be visible. Problem solved, right?  If you don't care to design your protagonist with long hair, then don't choose it, then go feel superior to everyone else because you are a purist and be on your merry combat way. But to say to other gamers that they shouldn't have a few additional hair design options when it can be done?  Sure, it wouldn't be appropriate in games that try to make combat more realistic, but ME is NOT about being confined to regimented realism. Why is this such a hard concept for some of you?

I'm currently playing ME-2 for the first time and I really like the option for having casual attire choices. So why can't long hair be a casual customization choice too?

So stop trying to subvert ME into rigid 'realism' when it isn't about this, and let others have some fantasy fun. This is akin to the same foolish arguments by those who demand MP only and explicit nudity.

You have to! Its amazing <3 To be honest... I was thinking Disney movies were getting worse and worse these past few years... then Frozen came out... and Inside Out... and Star Wars The Force Awakens... and I love Disney again <3 The songs in Frozen are amazing... im 26 and not afraid to say I have the CD ;) x

Frozen is amazing... it deals with such important topics like loneliness and... god I cant tell you how much I love the film... its not another prince saving a helpless princess Disney movie its just so good... if I didnt love Star Wars so much Frozen would be my favorite film of all time <3

... sorry I got a little distracted away from the actual topic... so... im gonna try and link it back...

Elsa's hair in Frozen is amazing and so is Anna's and I hope theyll make hair like that in the game... Anna's hair especially because I love the color...

6) Need I go on?

1) Elite soldiers do forage for mission critical equipment, if neccessary.

2) Elite soldiers might require to be specialists in breaking enemy security, which is what is going on under the guise of a minigame.

3) This is a new weapon - treat it the same way you would treat tanks. Eventually, during the 22nd century, a new weapon has been born, swiftly adapted by human military (ies)

4) This is an advancement in technology, and I can easily tell you that there ARE in fact projects (and were a DECADE ago) to develop active camuflage. Troops carry only what they need for a mission - is it likely to demand sleeping in the field? Yes? Then sure, do it. Otherwise, you only bring what you need.

5) Elite soldiers are not confined, but most carry one at all times. Depending on their MOS, a pistol may even be the only weapon issued, though this would be a fraction, and all would be trained in the usage of rifles.

6) Actually, yes. Mass Effect's Systems Alliance is an evolution of all the human militaries we know as of present day. There is a canon mention of the US Army's 1st SFOD-D "Delta Force" existing in-universe, and likely absorbing other special forces units known today. Gunnery Chief Williams even mentions the age-old saying that "Every Marine a Rifleman" when she says, quote, "Every Marine a Rifleman, Every Rifleman Z-G certified."

Y'know what? I could actually GO ON.

Be warned, you'll be singing it all the time.

I see it as a song about her holding in her own fart.

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in, Heaven knows I tried

Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Well, now they know!

Let it go! Let it go!
Can't hold it back anymore!
Turn away and slam the door!
I don't care what they're going to say!
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway

I think long hair is not an issue, but any soldier type female would not style her hair like those in the pictures. I'd prefer a more modest long hair style, that wouldn't dangle on air and block your view if you ran around and moved a lot.

Plus if you are on PC, it can easily be modded if you really want to.

Not sure it's possible to say what a woman would or wouldn't do with her hair during leisure time. There are many ways to put hair up so that it doesn't become an issue under a helmet or whatever. People are people before they ever become soldiers and being a soldier doesn't un-woman anyone.

I don't think it's a critical game-changing aspect of playing. But that would mean there's as little reason to deny players the choice as to grant players the choice. So...

Do we really talk about hair in military unrealistic? I don't care I use biotics to make my hair weapon.

Id like to see an effect maybe when using biotics if you have long hair... it could like lift up and stand on end when youre doing something powerful... I think thatd be cool...

Kaidan already said his hair is standing up because of biotic use. Maybe strong biotic use will raise all of our hair up as well.

Y'all still wanna ruin regulations on a clearly-military protagonist?

Take a look at the regulations in real life, thank you. What most militaries define as "long hair" doesn't go below the shoulder.

What we got in ME trilogy was pretty much... it.

Really long hair would also go all over the place and be a hassle in a firefight. So pray for buns.

shut up man. Just shut up. It's a video game. And besides devgru and Delta guys can have long hair and even beards. N7 is the devgru/Delta force of the Alliance Navy.

I just have an image in my mind... of a woman standing up to face a group of soldiers... and her biotics kinda do the whole flaring thing when theyre being used and her hair stands on end and things start lifting up like crates and barrels and she throws them at all the soldiers... I have no idea why... even if it was in a cutscene... it would be pretty... and kinda cool...

I agree but we are not just a soldier now. We are an explorer. we need more realism when it comes to stuff like those stupid romance scenes where they keep their underwear. nobody does that. we need more realism than stupidity in some things but when it comes to hair or combat or whatever. Who cares. I want bangs on my guy. It's sure as hell not impossible. It's a video game.

Yes, you could go on and on and on, and you are still missing the whole point. it's a fantasy game.

Things that suspend belief and stretch certain realities are OooooKaaaay, and so are simple choices like hair length. It's like arguing with a brick wall. No one has ever advocated for long hair only. Allow people to have preferences and options. Who cares if it stretches certain 'practicalities' of warfare? ME is not a training sim to join elite military programs, right? No one's forcing you to customize long hair, right? Short hair styles are not going away, right? The only thing we are 'sort of' forced to do is leave the Milky Way. Choose your short hair options and be happy, and let others have their fun too.

Lighten up. It's not personal.
