Actually they do it so they can blend in on covert operations I believe. But they are allowed.
Yes, while on operations, not while on base generally.

Yes, while on operations, not while on base generally.
But they are allowed. We have access to the internet after all don't we? You've seen the lone survivor, American sniper. "Oh but those are movies". Have you seen pictures of Delta or devgru guys? Many have beards. So do Marsoc operators, green berets, FBI SWAT teams, HRT,etc.Yes, while on operations, not while on base generally.
I've seen pictures, their hair and beards put to shame every single hipster's I've ever met lol.But they are allowed. We have access to the internet after all don't we? But they have facial hair. Those men are bad@$$3$ who risk their lives for this the United States of America. So we can live free from Tyranny. It's funny though how the biggest threat to our way of life is ourselves but that's a conversation for a different time and place.I've seen pictures, their hair and beards put to shame every single hipster's I've ever met lol.
Exactly, I not only praise their service but their marvelous beards as well. But they have facial hair. Those men are bad@$$3$ who risk their lives for this the United States of America. So we can live free from Tyranny. It's funny though how the biggest threat to our way of life is ourselves.
My bad. I thought it was an insult.Exactly, I not only praise their service but their marvelous beards as well.
Not at all, I like long hair and beards. What I meant was they have EVEN BETTER long hair and long beards than many hipsers I've seen (I have nothing against them either, if anything I envy them all for those epic beards). My bad. I thought it was an insult.
Exactly. N7 is like the devgru or Delta Force of the Alliance And they can have long hair and facial hair. Its not even a hindrance to them. Not at all, I like long hair and beards. I know I've said this pretty much every time I have gotten the chance... but I am really, really hoping we're not technically military. Seeing as it's not confirmed yet, some of the stuff being discussed here may or may not be a non-issue.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's practically confirmed that the protagonist is military. In info Bioware/EA released on the game it was said that the main character would be assembling a team of military specialists, or something to that effect. I suppose one could hold out hope that the protagonists background will be civilian and differ from the people s/he commands, but that seems very unlikely.
Not quite what I was going for. I said I am hoping that we're not technically military. What I meant by that is that I hope our job is framed more along the lines of explorer/frontiersman/colonial prospector types spearheading the migration to Andromeda rather than run of the mill special forces doing regular special forces things. It makes more sense within the context of the game and is bound to provide the PC more freedom.

/facepalm
Really, dude? Really? Do I need to start quoting regs to you?!
Bah, forget it. I don't give.
And Undead Han here has arguments the likes of which you rarely see.
instead of very long hair, i'd rather they go a little shorter but implement hair physics. +1 for a nice thread though.
EDIT: mmm at the same time, idk...personally, these things are an escape from real life. so long flowing locks for my female bae? Why not? but that's just my humble opinion.
I'm gonna disregard everything you just said because I didn't read it and just forget about this.Only because they're in Afghanistan where beards are very common for adult men, and where the probability of an attack using chemical weapons us extremely low. It's not the norm, and standards are only relaxed there to allow special operations to blend in.
If war ever erupted along the Korean DMZ (hopefully it never will), those same teams wouldn't be allowed to wear beards. They aren't common in Korean culture and the risk of chemical weapons being used would be high. Beards prevent a getting a good seal with a gas mask, and having a bad seal on a gas mask during a chemical weapons attack, likely results in death.
I'm okay with Andromeda allowing short beards in the CC, particularly since we already know the Alliance allows them. (Joker)
Helmets covering the entire head would also eliminate the problem gas masks have of needing to be sealed to your face.
Modern special operations forces wearing beards in Afghanistan doesn't really work as an argument in favor of it being plausible for Andromeda however, because the circumstances there are unique to Afghanistan.
Not for Tier one special forces you don't. Sure they have more rules in terms of facial hair then they did say ten years ago but doesn't stop them from having it. If they're overseas and fighting in a war sure./facepalm

We are military but not in the capacity which we're soldiering and fighting a war. We're explorers. Our mission is to find a new home. Assuming we leave before or during the reaper war we are basically refugees looking for safe haven. The Andromeda galaxy is vast with many uncharted worlds. I'm assuming the Khet are savage and don't want to share. That's where we come into conflict. But we'll see.Not quite what I was going for. I said I am hoping that we're not technically military. Nah, if you are in the military and fighting long hair is not logical. It more difficult to maintain and it is a hindrance, the options in ME were fine.

Should there be any military reg. for our character, is he even in the military? I don't see long hair being the problem if our character isn't a part of the military. I thought he is part of team Ark or whatever, are they even military?
We're explorers and they don't have the same regs as we do today. Ash and Shepard to name a few are proof. Besides Shep was a spectre anyway. And now we're a Pathfinder.Should there be any military reg. for our character, is he even in the military? I don't see long hair being the problem if our character isn't a part of the military.

Well there we go, yes to long hair!!
