Do we also get bad hair days after wearing vacuum suits (and helmets)?

I bet not this is the future there is probably some kind of spray that resolves helmet hair  :P. and then it flows in the wind like this again.

this is after you use that spray so no helmet hair and so no bad hair days  ;)

Bioware hasn't been able to program good hair since....ever.

They got pretty close with DA2 I think but while it did move a little it didn't have any proper physics or such. What Bioware should do in my opinion is take what they did there and what modders have managed to do with DAI as inspiration on how to improve. Becvause there aer a lot of nice looking hairstyles on the nexus site. I've downloaded quite a few to use on various characters myself as have quite a few DAI players I've noticed.

I don't mind breaking regulations at all. All my Shepards weren't that military either. It's usually clipping issues why devs say there is long hair, but modders always came up with long hairstyles and clipping with those don't seem to even concern players that much so I wouldn't say it's a reason why there shouldn't be any longer hairstyles. And it's not like other things don't clip in the games too like in DAI everything was clipping at one point..

Don't really care for hair physics. Medium to short is preferable enough. Long hair is unnecessary unless its a braid. Mods are fine but not base game.. because... lol Bioware

Long hair. 2016 has no place for helmet hair.

Long hair? C'mon this is Bioware we are talking about. It'll be a miracle if both teams could render short-medium length hair like SR4 or TW3.

I was under the impression that the main character is not actually military.

Also, Tomb Raider and the Witcher both prove long hair is pretty doable.

neither have mine tbh. Athough ive never been able t oget any mods to work on ME I've had more luck with DA tbh in that regard but then on those games it does seem to be easier. Given that ME is going to be using the same engine as DA now hopefully it'll be easier all round for modders.

There is nothing wrong with a female having long hair especially if its very long hair. If the main character is military, just have her hair tied up without any lose hair strands and off the collar. While on the ship in between missions, she can have her hair down. I don't see a problem.

I think it would be nice to see more long hair, but within reason and a military context.

For example, short hair during missions, but if you have your hair in a bun, ponytail, etc., then give players the option to let their long hair flow during down time, like on the ship or in hubs. That would strike the perfect balance between realism and flexibility.

Let players switch their hairstyle on a console at the ship, kind of like the Black Emporium DLC in Dragon Age

If some might think it would be silly for a female character in a military setting to have long hair that isn't tied up, it should be worth noting that the Systems Alliance is fictional, and a sort of smorgasbord of various real life influences from the military to the navy etc. BioWare can do whatever they want with there new fictional military in Andromeda, if there is one, and this includes long hair.

It should be down to player choice with this. Some can have short and it be more realistic to them, others can have long and it not break immersion.

I'd be happy with or without. I say without, cause sadly BioWare hasn't been able to handle long hair. It's rare for there to be really good long hair in video games.

It's debatable I guess, but I liked the step forward in how long hair could be in video games with Elise from Assassin's Creed Unity.

Also long hair in an action/combat setting that isn't tied up? Not completely out of the realms of reality either, there are numerous examples in fiction of female action heroes who have long hair that isn't tied up and they are still competent.

Van Helsing was a fluffy film, but I liked Anna Valerious' character in the film.

I don't mind having some long hair thrown into the mix nor am I bothered too much about clipping or lore issues. What DOES bother me is the fact that - if the hair is completely stiff - as soon as my character looks down it looks like there's hurricane winds going on and when my character looks up, the hairs look like they're made of unbreakable steel.

That said; my personal preference are all kinds of braids. Braids are love, braids are life. And maybe half-shaven hairstyles for the stylist Ryders. Not a fan of the supermodel looks (that includes the pictures in the OP).

Logically speaking long hair - if not tied or sprayed with a ton of hairspray - gets in your face and it can be an easy point to grab on to. (trust me, I have elbow-length hair, I know what I'm talking about lol)

I don't think anyone argues that in fiction people can have long hair and still be very practical, but IRL that's not the case and some people would want that in their game for immersion reasons.

EDIT: snipped the images

Thing is about a Tomb Raider or Witcher game is the protagonist is a set character(Lara Croft, Geralt of Rivia) so its easier to give them a distinct look with long hair.

With a character creator though, that has to take into account different shapes, sizes, and multiple options, its not quite as easy. On top of that, good physics for long hair is apparently quite demanding on the resource front, so the investment hasn't been made Bioware-wise.

At this point, I'm tired of asking for Bioware to do it. Every game I hope for it, but every game lets me down on the long hair front. Inquisition was especially terrible in that the options for hair all seemed pretty bad and too similar to one another. Even harder to see happening for a ME game considering military regs.

And at this point in time unless someone's gonna get Andromeda for me I won't be able to buy it even if I wanted to so I feel less invested to ask for long hair that I highly doubt we'd get anyway considering the resources and setting of the narrative.

Not only it breaks regulation, but there's also clipping issues, they have to account for various types of hair, it's ok for a single defined character to have flowy hair. It's just too much work in general. Their hair may be statics, and it would break immersion sometimes. I'd prefer not to.

Ashley Williams was military to the bone. She bled Alliance blue and her hair was below the shoulders in ME3, so I think the regs argument goes out the window. The clipping issue is a real concern and having static hair, as you say, would break immersion for many. I would, however like to see more in line w/ the classy hair style, something almost shoulder length w/ some animation. That's what I would like, however I came to the conclusion a long time ago that BW isn't going to give me the game that I personally want and I'm much happier for it.

There's another logical reason why it's generally a bad idea to have long hair in a military setting/on the battlefield: The bad guy can grab it in close quarters and proceed to open up a can of ass whooping.

But if we are not military (hopefully): Then sure why not?

Plus It's not any more immersion breaking than Ashley only wearing a facemask in a vacuum.

that largely depends on whether the enemy gets close enough to do that though considering we do have guns I think hair like Miranda/Ashley is doable.

Maybe if there is hair physics just program it into the longer options and keep the shorter styles static given they'd likely behave that way anyhow. It largely depends on how many longer options they program in if there's only 1 or 2 optoins for example it shouldn't be too hard especially as the tech is there and Bioware has already kind of started to play with this already with cloth physics on flags and the armours in DAI which is one of the things I like about that game. Yes there is an element of clipping there's an element of that in both the Tomb Raider and Witcher games as wel lI don't think it'll ever be 100% perfect but I think it breathes more life into the game having it.

Let's just see what Bioware come up with we know they'er going to be mocapping certain things for MEA I believe so there's always a possibility they may look into improving this after all they do have the resources of EA behind them and some of EA's other studios are already doing this so hopefully now it's Bioware's turn.

I don't really care for long hair for the character but whatever hair we have, just do it well bioware. I mean, I'm not insisting that Ryder look like she's a walking l'oreal advertisement but it'd be nice if we didn't get a concrete mohawk that can literally impale my enemies.
