A sniping Geth Engineer (or a Snipeer, if you will)

I have just promoted the engineer class and realized I have never tried out a sniping Geth Engineer, so what would be the most effective build for the above character on Gold? I am sure on Gold a single-shot one works too, for Plat a Black Widow one would be better (before somebody mention the Javelin, I still don't have it, nor the Valiant, so those one are out of the discussion for me sadly). However I cannot decide on some things.

This is the single-shot one. I choose every one of the lightning options, so Overload/healing turret could be spammed. I am good with this one, but can I switch one of the options from 4B, 6A or the mod, and still effectively use powers, or is this good as it is? Also, I took 5B instead of Neural Shock in Overload, now I think I should switch them.

The BW one is here. I still want to retain the option to use OL fairly often, so the question of the light options still stand here. Also, the OL one. A new one, though: switching the extended barrel to a Thermal Clip. My BW still isn't at a high level, so running out of bullets is a possibility, especially when bosses come. If I switch, the damage suffers 200 points, that's seems like much (still enough when headshotting a mook, I guess), will it hinder the killing efficiency? In short, barrel or spare clip? I think barrel would be better (for Gold, on Plat I might go with a SC), because on shields I can still use OL, and the accidental bodyshot would be punished less, but an advice from a more experienced sniper/GE user would be appreciated.

A sidenote: I thought about using the Indra, but it is also low-levelled and I am not really good at it. But if that is accidentally the holy grail on this kit or something, I would be willing to suck it up and L2P.

If any other issues come up other than the above ones, feel free to mention them of course.

PS
Oh, and I specced the turret into healing, because of support and for me of course. I thought a defensive turret would be more effective than an attacking one in this case.

The Geth Engineer with the Mantis is a viable (and classy) set-up for Gold. (Never tried it on Platinum though.) Or the vanilla Widow if you want a bit more 'oomph!'or 'bang for your buck'.

Personally, I do like to use the Indra on him, it's good for spraying Disruptor or Incendiary Ammo around, especially against multiple mooks.. (Although many argue it's more an AR than a Sniper Rifle).

The Geth Engineer is one of the best characters to snipe, if not the best. Sure, he doesn't have Tactical Cheat, but he has Overload. No shield-gate problem whatsoever.

With the Javelin, he's a beast. Thing is, you need everything and can't spend points in advanced hardware, nor take a Cyclonic Modulator for cooldown reasons. So you'll be weaker in health and shield than a Volus is. Sadly, you don't have the Javelin, so Widow it is.

And hopefully, you have the Geth Turret.

Here's my build (deisgned by a certain dimitrie123_FR) explained :

Geth Turret : Shields and Damage, then healing and healing frequency. You need a healing turret and nothing more, but since it will heal you in only one boost, it's good to also have a turret a bit more resistant, hence the shields rank 4.

Hunter mode : power recharge because you'll need it, power damage for Overload, speed and vision.

Overload : Damage, cooldown, damage against shields. If you want to OS any shield in platinum with this kit, you'll need every damage upgrade. If you wish to play it on Gold only, and since you don't have the Javelin, you can take the Neural Shock. There's not much point in having Area Overload with a single shot sniper tho.

Networked AI : power damage, power damage, and then your choice. I like having weapon damage at rank 6.

Here's what the Widow build is on Kalence : link

The Javelin one is the same, apart from the Cyclonic Modulator which is replaced by an Efficiency Power Module.

Between the two you have, BW is clearly superior.

Could possibly still be the best option in general.

I know, I like using the Mantis on Gold. To be honest, the Mantis is one of my favourite weapons in the game, because you start with it and still serves you right even on Gold.

GT: 4A instead of 4B might be a better idea, thanks. However, I still think I am going to keep the 6 points in AH, because of safety. A GI can run away cloaked, a GE can never hide.

OL: will consider the damage branch

So it is possible to OS shield on Plat with this kit? That's good to know.

Overall, thanks for the lengthy post, gave me a lot of things to chew on. It is a shame that I will have to respec every time I want to use a BW or a Mantis/Widow, though.

It is, but using a single-shot SR is satisfying as hell, that is why I included both.

GE is also great with the Indra. With the RoF and damage bonuses, it's essentially a Harrier with a scope.

GE Valiant if you wanna stand out in a crowd.

Though I will admit, GE Mantis is despicably fun.

I might be a little too conservative, but the Indra seems to be the only Sniper Rifle that makes sense on the GE, in order to take advantage from that rate-of-fire increase. Anything else feels subpar and if you want to use both Overload and Sniper Rifles, the TGI + Geth Scanner will do a better job (even though it feels much cheaper and less immersive).
I normally only pair the GE with weapons that can benefit as much as possible from Hunter Mode. Single-shot or slow firing Sniper Rifles are better for other kits.

That might be true... But who cares, tbh ? GE Widow is great. GE Javelin is great. It doesn't need to be the best kit with these weapons - just to be good enough and enjoyable. Which surely is the case.

Actually, the Krysae benefits noticeably from the RoF boost too.

It's rather sluggish normally but RoF boosts make it responsive enough to be functional, and overload provides a long range option to detonate ammo explosions through the scope and remove pesky shields that prevent incendiary ammo from priming if that's your ammo of choice.

Basically, less of a sniper and more of a long range demolitions expert.

Saber is the best sniper rifle on the GE.

That's only because it is one of the best guns in game. Pretty sure the top 3 goes to Saber, Lancer, and Claymoar (in no particular order, they are simply all the best). Maybe not the maximum, optimum, dps blehs, but they aren't boring, they sound awesome, and they kick arse. There is nothing objectively, or subjectively, wrong with any of them (in comparison to other guns).

Uhm, Pardon me?

That's my way to call the Tactical Cloak. As a matter of fact, "Tactical Cheat" does suit the power way better than Cloak.

That doesn't mean there's anything wrong in using this power, it's just a joke.

Only when it it being used correctly. Using it incorrectly should be punishable by sterilization, for the sake of future generations.

I have tried GE with a sniper, not sure if I prefer it over other builds I use on him, but Valiant is quite fun (fighting Cerberus fells like shooting clay pigeons).

The 4b - Accuracy boost from HM is very helpful as well.  Indra is my favorite SR for the GE (and GI actually).

I have a few ways you could improve this.

You could first make the GE a little more QFI, then add a pinch of Lancer. It would improve the build massively.

Gethper :D

Also, Steve. Steve would be a good name for this build. Unfortunately, Steve has already been taken by a volus vanguard and a Turian Saboteur in my game. So we'll have to settle for Bob. Or Fred. It's up for discussion really.
