For me, it has pretty much just been entertainment. I enjoy this game a lot. I do, however, find it fascinating how so many people have been affected by the game the way they have. I've enjoyed reading the accounts of how the game has impacted their life in such a positive way. Great topic!

What was the point of the negative response. My god. I just don't understand some of you people on here...... Some of you are jerks for the sake of being jerks.

It was alot worse 4 or 5 years ago during the DA 2 and ME 3 controversies.  Unfortunately there are a still a few more trolls lingering in the ME forums,  DA seems pretty civil.  It helped that they shut down the General Talk forum since many of the worst trolls started congregating over there.

Hi

I'm an aspie, and i struggle socially. Inquisition has really helped me with thinking about talking to others and what they might say in response, with it's dialogue options, and consequences of actions. If only real-life had dialogue options!! And also thinking about people being in responsible jobs even though they have failings.

I know it's just a game, but has it helped you? I'd love to hear :)

I now go looking for shards of glass on roofs, at the top of ladders and at the top of large mountains after a hike.

I like your attitude. :)

On topic: I guess I could say the one way DA:I has helped me in real life is it has provided an engrossing distraction from the stresses of every day life. You know, from the stuff I can't really do anything about but sit and worry. I don't get that with most games. Also, the lore mysteries are fun to ponder when I'm not playing the game. :P

DAI has made a difference in my life that it made me appreciate DAO even more than ever.

DAI has made a difference in my life that it made me want better stories and consequences of the actions you take, not a story made for SJWs.

Yeah DA :I has changed my life..

At first  I didn't care for the game but, after several games I'm hook on it as much as I am DA:O, Final Fantasy 4, 10 and 12 . Needless to say my other RPGs collects dust as I continue to play my 5 favorite games.

I even bought a XBox1 so I could play Trespasser.

Games in general have got me through serious sports injuries.

When you train for the world championships, and get hurt, and don't show up. Well...

It can be depressing.

Games can help ease your mind from many of life's obstacles. They are a temporary escape from reality.

Boosting your spirits, and taking your mind off whatever it is that is troubling you.

I laugh when people post in Witcher III forums, or this forum, how depressed they become when the game ends in a way they didn't expect or approve of. Or how enraged they become when they can't complete a quest or defeat some silly boss.

That's just not what games are about, for me.

If used correctly, and not abused, games can be very beneficial.

It helped me bond with my roommate of two years. We both like video games, but different kinds of video games, and we just kind of nodded awkwardly in the hall as we went about our daily schedules. A few weeks ago he decided to give DAI a chance, and since the game isn't very newcomer friendly I gave him advice on what kind of character to make, what kind of loot to pick up, showed him how to complete difficult quests, etc. Often when he plays the game I'll look over his shoulder, "ooh"ing and "ahh"ing at his choices. It's brought us closer together. =)

My beau and I? I wish it affected us positively. It just annoys him since this is my favorite game in the whole world and I won't shut up about it, while he played it once when it first came out and instantly lost interest. (He loves Bethesda games like Fallout 3 & 4 and Skyrim, and philosophical games like BioShock.)

The game itself has had little to no impact on my overall life, however it has added another notch to my video game collection. I will admit that the soundtrack scored by Trevor Morris is amazing, and I listen to bits of it everyday.

I've been having short term memory issues and it's helped me re-adjust my ability to focus. Now I have to remember where things are, what they do and where to go. I played many games on the 360 version then pick-up the GotY ps4 version when my daughter brought the ps4 into the house...damn it's like playing a whole new game. All the scenery has me confused, but if it keeps my interest I don't mind relearning the areas.

DA series have no impact on me at all. ME did because they appear at a time when I was fighting to keep going. The first two ME were encouraging and inspiring. The last left an everlasting wound in a time when I needed hope to move on to the next day, the next month, the next year. Someone recently said I should have stuck to playing Mario  , Skyrim, etc, not play a game with a story that would eventually end in darkness. Really? It's that predictable? It would end in darkness when the first two were inspiring, success against the odds, and hinted of possibilities. I wasn't looking for roses in the garden all round happy conclusion but a sensible, logical, acceptable end.

I will cite an example where the hero's death, his decisions, his actions culminated to a proper end. Sheridan from B5. His end was foreseen and his leaving bitter sweet but there was hope, a path forward for those he left behind. His leaving also didn't mean he just ended. There were hinted possibilities.

Why not talk to people, some might ask? Why invest in a RPG story? How much burden do I really want to offload to another? How much time and patience can other people spare to listen? They have their own lives. In a case when you watch death slowly take away pieces of someone, hour by hour, night and day, through the years, it is not an easy thing to share. At such times, I'd want to forget for a while, live in a different world, be someone else.

I don't have that much immersion in the DA series. I'm detached though I enjoy the stories.

Well, kind of, i guess.  Im someone who is (because of stuff in my past) extremely mistrusting, plagued with social anxienty so bad that even after years of therapy it looks increasingly likely that i will never get a job, not to mention true friends or a significant other, and im pretty much the polar opposite of attractive. So it stands to reason that i didn't really have a lot of contact with people at all.

But DA:I, and my love for the DA series in general and my impatience to wait for another one, have led me to buy the Green Ronin Dragon Age RPG. Now im meeting up with 4 very lovely fellows and a lady every two weeks to immerse ourself in Dragon Age for twelve hours. Thanks to Dragon Age i had more social interaction in the past half year than the previous six years combined. ^^

So yeah, i guess it has made some positive difference in my life. : )

It helps me take my mind off things and relax. It helps my mood when I feel down.

Moreover, every BioWare hero makes me want to do something with my life. Shepard is one of the reasons I started working out again. All of them made me believe in not giving up and in working hard, in being selfless and being proactive because many times you're truly the only one willing to get stuff done. There have been several bad moments when I saw somebody needed help and I didn't hesitate out of being too timid and indecisive any more and was thus often the first one to offer a helping hand despite other people being around. It might be just me finally having grown up to be more mature and confident, it could be I've had inspiration, it could be both or none, but I do find that having role models has made a positive impact on my life.

Also, at work I often have to communicate with people on intimidating positions - consuls, ambassadors, heads of schools and other institutions, police, etc. - and I find that to be a stressful experience. I hate phone calls to begin with. It's probably super silly, but sometimes I tell myself that "Hell, (BW protag) commanded an entire army," or "spoke to the entire galactic fleet, so I can make a bloody phone call." It's not a magical cure for anxiety, but it makes me want to do better.

There's also the fact that, as somebody who speaks English as her second language, BW games in general helped me a great deal to practice, learn and enrich my vocabulary.

It may not have changed my life drastically like other peoples here who have given their own accounts of their experiences however it has aroused food for thought. I had this same experience whilst playing through the Mass Effect trilogy four years ago :)
Dragon Age Inquisition is the first Dragon Age game I have played. To quench my first for new BioWare titles seeing as at that point I thought Mass Effect to be done and dusted I decided to give it a go.i was wary that jumping into the third instalment of the franchise would have me at a disadvantage but the wiki and codex cleared many things up and helped me along.
From a philosophical standpoint the game has a clear message that things aren't always what they seem no matter where you stand and as a thinker and somebody interested in history and theism I apply this way of thinking to my real life. I applaud BioWare for allowing me to role-play as somebody filling the shoes of a theistic leader and making choices pertaining as such. The crises of faith and the plot twists as you progress through the game are excellent lessons that one must constantly seek knowledge and not be afraid if they hold one viewpoint only to be proven wrong by another.
I am not overly invested in fantasy settings but I immensely enjoyed this game and considering playing the previous two instalments but based on many reviews and opinions across the Internet they are vastly different and perhaps outdated as opposed to Inquisition.

ah yeah i might be one of those people who stand and have a shout at the screen when i can't do a quest for the tenth time (google it and find i was running in the wrong direction for the last ten times) :D  but they are great at giving me a break for an few hours and i when it's going well (ahem) i find it's as good as a bit of a walk or a spot of meditation (which it is in a way right? right?! ) because it's nothing to do with my daily life.

It hasn't changed my life in any really profound way, but it has encouraged me to ponder some things that I would otherwise have been unlikely to think about in the same way.  One of the best things to me about video games or television shows or really any kind of media is when it grabs your attention so much that you can't help but take a good, hard look at themes that it portrays.  It's inspired me and it's cheered me up on bad days, but not to some life changing degree.

I remember back when i first played a bioware game (mass effect 1) and i had this weird feeling i was actually picking dialogue options while talking to people.
