Hello everyone,

I'm very new to this forum (just joined basically). I'm currently doing a blind playthrough of ME1 but I am planning on playing ME2 and 3 back to back.

With that said, I was wondering if you could give me a recommendation on what DLCs I should get for ME2. I alraedy bought the Deluxe edition of the game, so that came with a few stuff and I also got the Lair of the Shadowbroker DLC. But I noticed there are others also. So, which ones are worth getting? Or should I just go for all of them?

Please if you can, avoid spoilers in your answers as I managed to stay away from any spoilers so far. As this is my first time playing Mass Effect, I really want to get the full experience of playing it blind.

Thank you in advance.

For ME2, you get a bunch of free DLC by buying the game (one mission, one vehicle mission pack, a new squadmate, two guns and an armor set). For the story DLCs, I'd get Kasumi (new squadmate, gun, ability, side missions) first, because she's cute, a very useful party member and the crew is finally complete with her. Next, I recommend Overlord, which adds a new planet with quite lot of playtime and exploration, plus an interesting moral dilemma in its plotline (also, music is awsome in that mission).  Lair of the Shadow Broker  and Arrival are kinda essential story-wise, so I'd say these two are the most important, as they have a lot of stuff that carry over to ME3 and provide a nice epilogue after the main quests. I would also recommend the Firepower pack, as it adds three really cool guns to your arsenal (it is worth it for the assault rifle alone). The Aegis pack is optional - its cool and all, but not really essential. You can skip the cosmetic pack for squadmates and the other equipment packs, I never found them very useful or good looking.

Project Overlord is very good, and is mentioned in ME3 too so I'd recommend that.  I love Kasumi and Zaeed so I'd absolutely recommend having them on your squad.

I personally don't like Arrival that much but it's very important for the story of ME3, so worth it for that alone.

I don't have any of the smaller ones so can't comment on them.

ME2 has, in my opinion, the best DLCs of all the 3 games, so they're definitely worth it.  :)

LotSB is enjoyable, and Arrival appears to have a lot of story ties overall. Overlord requires use of the Hammerhead, so no nod from this one.

However, pls be aware that I am unable to add any new DLC to my physical copy of the game at this time, as the DLC does not appear to recognize it apart from Origin.

I recommend Overlord, pretty fun DLC in my opinion. Also Kasumi and Zaeed just because there memorable characters and add a little more to the game. Never played Arrival so can't comment on that.

Wow, thank you for all the feedback. Wasn't expecting answers this fast :) By the looks of it, I might go ahead and just buy all the DLCs. :)) Thank you again for all the suggestions.

The only mission-based DLC not really worth much is Firewalker, but I'm not sure if you can do Overlord without it since it's how you obtain the Hammerhead (hovercraft); and sections of Overlord require that you use it.  Any of the rest are generally fun to do and each one does add something to the game in ME3... what each adds is not really essentially, but it does make ME3 a much richer experience overall.

All the mission based ones are worth playing.

ME3 is better IMO if you do play LoTSB, Kasumi, and Zaeed - certain things just make more sense.  It's more ME content which is always good, but I'm not personally sure Arrival brought a lot to the table in terms of overarching carry-overs.  Overlord is referenced in a snippet in ME3.

Uncertain as I do not have Arrival, but have been told this is the reason Shepard starts ME3 under guard; a fairly big link.

The outcome of Arrival (if the player did or did not complete the mission) effects some war assets in the Alliance category, as the Alliance will be weaker by some points because they sustained losses during the mission if Shepard did not volunteer do it instead.

It is given as the reason Shepard starts ME3 under guard if the DLC is done.  However, it's really not critical.  If Arrival is not done, they basically just say he/she is under guard for the "sh** he's/she's done."  This fits OK because, Shepard was associated with a terrorist organization that illegally copied the most advanced warship the Alliance had.  In addition, Shepard most likely recruited a vigilante, an assassin, and a criminal, and even could have recruited a geth... none of which would go over well with the Alliance.  The events of Arrival happen regardless of whether or not Shepard takes part in it; but doing it does flesh things out a bit.  As a result, I think it's the only one of the DLCs mentioned that doesn't result in an added opportunity to obtain War Assets in ME3.  (ETA:  Just read above, so I guess it does affect War Assets as well... just in a more indirect way.)

Someone mentioned that Firewalker may be needed for Overlord. This is not the case. However: 1) Firewalker provides a tutorial for using the Hammerhead vehicle, I would recommend doing those missions before Overlord; and 2) Firewalker is free so there is no reason not to get it.

Lair of the Shadow Broker can be done at any time and though it has a number of tie-ins to ME3 as far as dialogue goes, it doesn't have much in the way of role playing opportunities. It is especially good to do this mission if you are romancing Liara in ME1.

Both Overlord and Arrival can be used to flesh out the story of who your Shepard is, and can be used as critical turning points in Shepard's development. Unfortunately, you cannot know how they will fit with your Shepard until you know the story in each one and how the story plays out in ME3.

I went ahead and got the alternate appearance pack for Miranda since I cannot stand her white "wh*re" outfit. The firepower pack is very nice, but the pack with additional helmets/visors is a waste of money since the Archon visor is bugged and doesn't work.

I would get as many of the story DLCs as possible.  Out of those, I like Arrival the least.  But it isn't bad.

LotSB gives you one of the best powers in the game, and the mission is fun.

Kasumi gives you a really good power, and a good gun in addition to the squadmate.

Arrival is the best ME2 dlc. If played after the suicide mission, Shepard gets to see Harbinger in his true form. The conversation is good too.

It may be the most important but it's such a grind for me.  No fun at all and very repetitive.  I really enjoy doing LoTSB and Overlord again but when it comes to Arrival I switch over to easy mode and rush through tbh.

I really don't enjoy the broker dlc. Its the least played dlc for me. Overlord I only do if I'm in the mood to play it. With Arrival I can talk with Harbinger. He's one of my favorite characters

I really like the story in Overlord, but the one thing that always makes me waver on doing it is the Hammerhead. If I didn't have to use the Hammerhead it would probably be my favorite DLC.

I don't think I can add much new to the discussion that hasn't been said already, but for me it would definitely be Arrival because of story reasons. However, it is one of the very few missions in the game that you go solo and it depends on whether that's your thing. I love the companions and BW games are largely about them for me, but I enjoyed having one big mission just for "myself", as well. The gameplay is quite varied - it actually offers some stealth elements, for example, which was really odd, but surprisingly enjoyable. I think the pacing is quite intense which is something I liked, as well. Ultimately, it is a link between ME2 and ME3. Your ME3 experience will be fine without it, but I liked having a mission that was actually relevant to the overarching plot.

I love the Lair of the Shadow Broker, as well, and it also explains why some things are the way they are in both ME2 and ME3, but like Arrival, it is not 100% essential. I think the gameplay is great, there's tons of content, and, well, it has Liara, if that's a deciding factor. (I really like Liara in this one, personally.) But, well, you have that one, so you'll see.

But, well, it depends on what you like. I didn't like most of the armours and weapons in the base game that much, besides rare exceptions, and felt there were very few, so I bought the Firepower Pack (which has a really great assault rifle) and Aegis Pack (which has a nice armour). I don't like buying these things as DLC usually, but I made an exception for these two. I also got Kasumi which has a truly fun and enjoyable mission + plus a charming companion, but it doesn't have anything to do with the plot. But then again, it adds one of the best weapons in the game. Overlord was pretty amazing, as well, storywise. The gameplay parts are going to be a matter of taste. I found them mostly fun, but I can't say I'm a big fan of the Hammerhead. Still, the level design was pretty awesome.

Definitely get the free DLCs like Zaeed because, well, MORE CONTENT! And Zaeed is pretty awesome. Even if you don't use him, it's still good to have them as options. I, personally, also liked the Crash Site a lot.

For those who have trouble with how some of the squadmates dress, which is sadly a fairly legit complaint, or just want more options, there are Alternate Appearance Packs.

I don't mind the Hammerhead, the only time it bugs me is jumping over the lava rivers.  I just try to focus on Varric's VA telling me about the aesthetically pleasing view that, as an organic, I should appreciate.  :D

I'd recommend Arrival and Lair of the Shadow Broker first and foremost since they are important to the main story (BioWare has a bad habit of putting things that should be in the base game in DLC).

Thanks for all the feedback. I kinda made a decision. I already have:

  • Cerberus Network
  • Normandy Crash Site
  • Zaeed
  • Firewalker Pack
  • Lair of the shadow broker

So I will be going after:

  • Kasumi Stolen Memory
  • Overlord
  • Arrival

This should cover most of the content. From what I see, the rest of the DLCs are mostly aesthetic addons which, at the moment, I don't really care for all that much.
