She's a freak of nature. Like people who can eat broken glass without hurting themselves.

Perhaps, here is another example;https://www.youtube....h?v=kPUglMKGXRM

If you've ever seen UFC, boxing or even an arm wrestling event, it's not the guys with the biggest arms or bodies who throw the hardest punches most of the time. Jon Jones from UFC has really really thin legs and yet he's got one of the most brutal kicks in the game. Nate Diaz is very skinny for his weight class and yet he's easily holding his own against more bulkier opponents.

Tl, dr size really isn't an accurate indicator of strength or martial prowess and it would be naive to judge someone on that based on the size of their arms or body!

To be fair both videos you posted are not 'hulk" women but both do not have skinny arms either.  Again they both have a realistic look to them.  Both the women from your videos look like they could do physical things.

You're mistaking precision for power(and fighting prowess for fitness). The strongest men in the world would be terrible fighters because they tend to be giants among men, and just walking into a ring as the strongest fighter generally has little bearing on the outcome of the fight. There's a reason boxers and MMA fighters spend so much time training in technique.
But you still need power to make the precision strikes impactful.

I am not particularly advocating for skinny arms either, these women do have disproportional amounts of strength for their size do they not? Also I felt that Ciri isn't really all that skinny although that could be subjective.

Well given that we're advocating these body standards for an N7 operative who gets regularly into combat, looking at power alone would be rather narrow minded. That is assuming that they even need to be adept in melee combat. We are considering this from an overall combat perspective right?

But if you wanna look at it that way consider the difference between bodybuilders and Strongmen. The latter maybe much smaller in size but would almost always be stronger than a comparable bodybuilder because they train for different things. Which should make it evident that again, size needn't be proportional to strength.

I have to disagree. There's a reason why they have weight classes in fighting. Size matters, this is simple biology. A man can't fight with an Elephant.

We're looking at it from an action star perspective, because these characters aren't real and they have to instantly convey a sense of power and competence. It's all well and good to say "well some spec ops guys don't look that big and this woman can run a tough obstacle course even though she's just a gymnast" but this is an action franchise, not a simulation.

Strongmen tend to be a lot bigger than bodybuilders because they're not all toned, aesthetic muscle. They eat thousands more calories every day than a bodybuilder because they have to maintain strength and power through strength-building exercises, whereas bodybuilders focus on reps and building specific muscles to be more aesthetically appealing to a panel of judges.

I'm actually perfectly fine with a female protagonist that is similar in form to Ciri.

but then I also don't care about them looking like an "action star". Her build actually fits rather fine for a Mass Effect character.

This is Aliy Zirkle. She's a dog musher, a completely awesome person, and incredibly tough.... She also once broke someone's arm in an arm wrestling contest.

I would 100% love to play a protagonist like that. Her arms aren't super huge, but that's very well-used, very practical muscle.

That would probably mean less cinematic dialogue and cutscenes, and would give me something to complain about.

Agreed. It's not worth sacrificing the cinematic dialogue scenes. DAI felt heartless with so few.

This thread has degraded since about page 6.

I expect that we will get better quality models all around in MEA. The twiggy arms won't be a problem. The female lead will not be very muscular, at all. BioWare will design their leads for widest possible sex appeal, and many people would complain that she isn't attractive in their eyes if she had too much definition. (We all know it's true.)

Both the male and female lead will continue to look very much like underwear models, most likely. We won't see them out of uniform or armor very often, so it doesn't really matter all that much, anyway. The male lead can follow very much in Sheploo's footsteps (maybe minus the buzzcut for variety?) and no one will complain. Whatever they do with the female lead, she'll still be pretty enough to model in her spare time, just like her male counterpart. Hopefully, they give her separate animations and her own independently designed frame. That would be nice.

Throw in well made and numerous hair options, for a change, and many fans will be very happy.

Most games get this wrong, partly because the tech isn't very good at rendering subtle body types. If we ask for a more muscular female we might get something way over the top. Even male figures, when shown bare, look freakishly muscular and proportioned. But Bioware could at least avoid the spaghetti arms this time around. Lara Croft and Evie Frye are among the better female bodies in games I've seen. Ciri is moderately muscular but too doll like because CDPR used a generic model, so her physique doesn't stand out from other women in the game.

Not sure why people still complaining about twiggy arms when the body change shape according to the outfit you use and these outfits was used by everyone in the game including the Asari and they all look alike. Have your Shepard wear N7 Defender 24/7 if you want to see her looking like a hulk.

Although I wouldn't mind Bioware adopt character customization like the Sims 4 or at least have alternate body types. Not like they hadn't done it before.
