Agreed.  Femshep needed to put on some weight.  The shadow broker fight looked ridiculous.

"60 pounds while wet, wearing boots".

Always replace your bones with metal and perforate your muscles. Or whatever it was. I don't remember the entries on the modifications for skin-weave, muscle-weave, and bone-weave perfectly. But I remember being vaguely horrified by them... And then Shepard's enough of a cyborg to get hacked and get sweet renegade scars. But since that's probably not going to be our excuse for why Shepard wins fistfights this time around, I'm hoping for a slightly heftier protagonist!

Ok the cyborg exuse dose not hold water.  Shepard had her toothpick arms back in Mass Effect one when she was 100% human.

Shepard also didn't get into fistfights with yahg or headbutt krogan in ME1.

I'd like to add my own two pennies but what exactly is a "realistic" body? There's no such thing as a "realistic" body, there are just bodies. This is purely a matter of personal preference in my opinion.

I say that the character creation needs to have a body slider as well as face sliders, then that way we can all have our PC's body conform to each of our own ideas of what "realistic" body should look like.

I love how he beats Vega at pull up with toothpicks arms.

She Hulk from Marvel has an athlete body... maybe without the implanted boobs.

This is a good option as well.

Ok so I LOVED FemShep in Mass Effect and my main character was a femshep.  But it bugged me to no ends that out of her armor she had toothpick arms.  I mean she is the most badass soldier in the whole Galaxy and she looks like my Grandma could beat her up. So in Andromeda could you please step it up?  Just as least give her body some muscle definition.

She looked fine in ME1 and passable in ME2, but her arms were too long in ME3 (every female in the game had long noodle arms) and her hips were out of proportion. I could be wrong, but I think this is due to the fact that she had to match male Shepard in the animations. I'll never say that the devs were lazy because they do work hard, but it seems that too many corners were cut in her body frame.

Eh, she always had arm issues, especially in ME1. It all depends on the lighting and scene.

They look absolutely ridiculous when Shepard's propped against the wall and talking with the LI after getting grounded.

Especially in ME1? Have you seen her in ME3? Look at these funky things.

Yep, she's got arm issues throughout the entire series. Especially in ME1. Check out these funky things.

Many of her body proportions were way off, as well. In ME3, FemShep's hips-waist-backside were situated in some bizarre fashion that made them seem stretched vertically. It looked very strange. I found it even more distracting than the noodle arms. It wasn't noticeable in armor, but it was terrible in clothing. It made me wish I could put her back in her armor on the Citadel.

Between that, the messed up stomping sound effect when she walks, and her over the top flirty voice whenever she spoke with men, I actually converted from primarily a FemShep player to nearly 100% Sheploo. Meers killed it in ME3, anyway, so at least I have that.

Please give us separate animations for male and female characters on MEA, BioWare. A body editor within the CC would be amazing, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm still worried that the hair will be abominable.

There's frequently a problem of reality is unrealistic when it comes to people's expectations of the appearance of a military protagonist.

Several of my older family members had served in the military before they passed, and I work in the kind of business where we offer military perks and discounts. I have met a lot of people in the army and air force, and most of them are not as sculpted and bulky as people on the internet seem to consider "realistic." In fact, most of the military women I've met are pretty slender, clearly athletic, but not obviously muscular.

Maybe it's different for the marines, of whom I haven't met as many, but my experience is that weight lifters or body builders--80's action movie stars--tend to skew the expectation of what military characters should look like, at least in the U.S. These are people who, while they're definitely strong, are commonly more motivated by making themselves look a particular way than any practical application.

Anyway, Vasquez muscles would be too much for me (I'm with those who would prefer a toned Emily Blunt in Edge of tomorrow look), but I'm not opposed to that body type being an option. The ideal case would be body sliders, but that can be prohibitive when it comes to cut scenes, and cinematic content is higher priority for me than most CC variations.

Is this where I point out that being capable of winning a fistfight or throw a hard punch has nothing to do with how big your arms are?

I think it is fair to say that the female characters (they all shared the same character model) had unrealistic arms. It wasn't just that they were very slender, it was that the arms were not proportional to the rest of the body, which was rather fit and athletic.

That said,Lady A's post was spot on about people being influenced by Hollywood and having somewhat unrealistic expectations of what military characters should look like.

That includes male Marines. While some are built similar to Vega, at least an equal number are slender and built more like marathon runners, and the majority fall somewhere in between.

I'd love if ME:A had triangle-slider for bodies like many games nowdays have (Fallout 4, Saint Row 4 etc.). Strenght-skinny-fat like Saint Row's one has and then you get to chose your body type from that.

If that's not option I'd like to see bit more muscular female protagonist though. Especially if we are supposed to be in special ops of army like Shepard was.

Since our protagonists are fully fictional/digital character, this is one of the few times one should look at the comic art for inspiration.

Example: Wonder Woman

At first I was all "yay, new engine, so the team isn't stuck with the limits of the old one, meaning no freaky noodle arms".

But then I remembered female elfquisitor and shuddered. Room for improvement, to put it mildly.

Wasn't male elf also broken? I think it was an elf problem. They made them too thin.

Indeed. Both looked malnourished. Also the male elf had some weird animation issue with the shoulders I think.

Human female looked good though, no noodle arms there.

If there's only one body option for each gender of the PC, I'm fine with (almost) anything as long as it's not the same thin needle arms model of Femshep's arms in the trilogy.

ME1 armour had the best animation and proportions, imo.  They DID have shared animation sets with Sheploo, but it was neutral enough to fit both genders. The arms were not the femShep-specific issue, 'civillian' males suffered from that too.

In ME3, however, they had introduced the 'femine' animation set. I've seen the models\animations comparing once, but looks like that tumblr was taken down. Anyway, swapped 'male' running animation made femShep look much better.

Also, my favourite pic that speaks for itself:

Please, BW, stop that. No need for space-magic N7 push up bras this time, ok?
