I agree with this, but I always, without fail, hear about how women (not individual women with their own tastes, but "women") are more attracted to the feminine bishonen boys like you see in anime or manga.

Certain women are. If you 'always, without fail' hear people say that all women are attracted to that type, then either you need to get your hearing checked or you exclusively associate with people who are full of ****.

I like Miranda too, but this physically hurts to read. Are you Steve Shives?

I don't even know who Steve Shives is, and yet I understand.

Yeah I don't know what planet you live on but just about anywhere in the world if you came across Femshep you would say that's a pretty attractive person.

I had no luck as a skinny bishonen asian male personally. But things improved as I became a giant. :P

Because a certain group of people get very upset if a female character isn't portrayed precisely as they want them to be.

Nobody cares about the male characters because we've just accepted that they're basically all middle aged grizzled men with short brown hair at this point.

You either haven't read the entire thread or were just looking for an excuse to complain about perceived double standards. There was a whole side discussion on male military physiques and what is or isn't realistic for male characters.

On the plus side, her prognathism and prehensile lips allow her to forage leaves and berries quite effectively.

Curious how you all ended up on the ME forum.... whilist evincing such distaste for the franchise....

Maybe give the examples of the ME chars you like? Then at least it could be a discussion of some kind and not reddit.

Wow, butthurt much? Recognizing that FemShep is uglier than a baboon's ass doesn't mean we hate Mass Effect. Stop being so damn melodramatic and childish.

What does reddit have to do with this, and people stating a specific dislike of femShep's comically disproportionate anatomy somehow equals a dislike of every aspect of this franchise?

The thread has taken a humorous (and inevitable?) turn, but I don't see anyone bashing the series.

I agree that the default FemShep was pretty damn ugly. Fortunately, I could always make far better versions with the Character Creator (a feature we all appreciate, and would love to see expanded and improved ;).)

I always use custom femsheps but default femshep doesn't look ugly.

In general I think it's a fair criticism though. Female characters seem to be held to impossible standards and seen as some kind of representative for women IRL. Their appearance certainly comes under a lot more scrutiny than the average male character's does.

Whether they're too pretty, not pretty enough, too skinny, too "sexy" (my personal favourite), too feminine, not feminine enough. There's always something that a bunch of people aren't happy with when it comes to female characters.

I simply can't play as a female character that doesn't look like a dame I'd want to take to the sack with me, I just can't.

Fictional characters being held to impossible standards is not a gendered issue. I'm going to need some kind of citation for the claim that they come under more scrutiny than males, because this very thread shows otherwise, with several pages dedicated to what is and isn't considered realistic for male body types. A character being seen as "too skinny" or "not feminine enough" is not an especially woman-specific issue. Well, not being feminine enough is not typically a male issue, but the male equivalent of not being masculine enough is a thing that exists. Plus it's not as if female characters who aren't particularly feminine are seen as less of a woman, for lack of a better way to put it. Again, this very thread shows the opposite with the praise given to Lt. Vasquez from Aliens (and outside this thread, there's the Cassandra thread in the DAI boards, dedicated to liking a female character who is decidedly not feminine).

The back of the taco bell dumpster is as good a place as any if she's hot enough.

Yeahhhh.... no.

Moaning from a position of power and dominance about how bad things are for you because aforesaid dominance might end up as being equality for at least half the ****** human race is never good.

Just ask Wrex about talking to Shep about the Genophage.

I'm not moaning about any perceived dominance ending. The bit about male characters was actually a joke, but in general I'm against characters that are generic/boring or just plain suck.

I'm not here to fight for "better female characters" or "better male characters". I'm here to fight for better characters in general, of which BioWare does a pretty damn good job of that.

You have also assumed I am a straight white male who only ever wants to play games as a straight white guy. The first half is true, but the second isn't. I don't self insert in RPGs and prefer to play as something other than what I already am IRL which means I'll often pick either non humans or female(or both) when given the chance.

On the other hand, plenty of people have been using this thread to argue about male physiques as well.

True, although overall I tend to see a lot more criticisms leveled at female characters for "not being good enough" for people's standards. It's also often that the whole "well men also have unrealistic body types" is only ever brought up as a dismissal to people's complaints about unrealistic female body types.

I find that female characters are the more controversial subject because more people hold them to far higher standards than they do male characters. I've noted in past threads there are logical reasons for it, but I still felt like pointing it out cause that's what the person was asking about =P

No one actually eats a Taco Bell. They buy the stuff and get the hell out. Every one I've ever been to was practically abandoned.
