It's far more interesting being an N7 who saves the galaxy than being a boring fetch quester Space Pirate, it makes the story seem larger and the enemies more menacing.

Wrong. N7 has a chain of command meaning despite the player character having "choices" he will need to inevitably report to a chain of command. Even shep with all his shepness had to report to a chain of command. Being a space pirate means full freedom, it means us as the player character is the one who is reported to and not the one who reports. In simple being a space pirate is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better, why? Because no one likes being told what to do and having the freedom to do whatever the hell you want is best.

Besides, I don't want to kill an entire civilization because some monkey in a suit wants me to. I want to murder that civilization because I can and want to because why not?

The main character needs to fit the story. An N7 definitely would be more appropriate for Andromeda.

We were N7 in 3 games so now would be good time for sth new. I doubt we will be space pirates though, we are pathfinders who try to find new home for humanity after all and pirating doesn't sound like it fits that.

Often that happend because the Chatolic church tried to tax them or forbid them from conducting commerce with christians and sometimes even tried to seize their goods for the Glory of the vatican and the Church.

 

Which understandably upset the vikings, meaning they talked to their people and sent a sizable response. Small raid for small communities and full scale siege fleets when dealing with constantinople trade irregularities. Sometimes an understanding was reached afterwards.

 

And sometimes I figure there were vikings who just thought they could make a killing and set themselves up for life. Still happens today.

If they are anything like the Early settlers in the US, then you can expect them to be privateers/pirates and cattle thiefs(cowboys).

Which seems to be the wibe of the trailer.
