Maybe every 5 minutes they could invert the y axis on the camera too. Or switch between mouse and controller. Or flip the camera upside down

Man I get dizzy just thinking about it.

Love that sarcasm.

OP - You think this is groundbreaking, huh?... more like game breaking, me thinks.

And at random places the game shuts down and you are forced to start at a random save point.

Or they could map several functions to the same button. Or link enemy accuracy to your frames per second. Anything's possible...

Forcing the player to change perspectives every few minutes is just a terrible idea.

There's a reason this one has never been done. It's because it would annoy the hell out of most players.

I myself hate first person as it makes me nauseous. So any first person game I will not buy best solution would be to have an option. Also going back and forth between the two would be annoying and nausea inducing

Have you tried changing the Field of Vision in games that allow it?

A lot of people get nauseous at low FoV values which FPS games often are set to by default.

Ever play Wing Commander 3? There's a mission you might have to fly drunk; if you are, it reverses your controls every minute or so.

I'll echo the chorus of noes to this idea.

I do think it could be interesting to occasionally have the camera adjust itself to show us the effects of changes in gravity.

The particular situation I'm thinking about is when Shepard used the mag boots to walk through the tube to enter the geth dreadnought. It could have been fun to see the camera stay in position while Shepard walked up the "walls" and across the "ceiling" of that tube.

Or boarding a derelict ship with no systems - including simulated gravity - operational. In that case, you could float around.

Some little reminders that you're in space.

I do not post joking-troll threads....but I'm conscious there is a fine line that is for someone hard to get.

''...and the see isn't green  and I love the queen  and what exactly is a dream and what exactly is a joke.''

lyrics by Sid Barrett (Pink Floyd) Jugband blues.

If not a joke or troll then at best it's arrogance to proclaim it to be a groundbreaking idea and to dismiss people saying no as "often groundbreaking ideas have people laughing at them at first". The fact that you preemptively made that claim suggests you knew what the response was going to be.

The reason why many people do not take your threads seriously is because you seem to post whatever comes to mind with little regard for game design or the lore of the universe.

I mean the whole idea of putting your dead into the sun as a cycle of rebirth could be an interesting premise(if fleshed out a lot more) it's just not a good fit for Mass Effect which doesn't really delve into religious beliefs or traditions. The closest thing we get to any sort of belief system is the Hanar worshiping the Protheans.

The reason why this particular thread's idea is something that has never been done is because forced perspective changes every few minutes would do little more than annoy the hell out of the majority of people. I'm fine with third person or with first person, but I wouldn't buy the game if it forced a change every few minutes just for the hell of it.

Groundbreaking idea? More like a vomit inducing idea.

The nausea this would cause would be terrible.

there is a chinese poet who has said ''one thing we must fear as hell: stillness''.

I notice a sord of coldness and lack of gentlesness in this forum...I have hardly seen any kind words...if you play the game to save humanity, well,  at least be kind with whoever post whatever.

Cheers and please keep posting constructive replies, thank you! :-)

Ps alternating the FPV and TPW outside the control of the player is new, unthought before....I hope some developer will at least try to implement this idea....the unthinkable often becomes reality....it takes daring and free minds to do that, not undaring minds.

There was a russian composer and at one point his maestro told he him he could not do use the notes in the way he was using them, ''it's impossible! he was saying...it is ugly and without meaning!''....the composer was just waiting to hear those words as he  decided to compose exactly the impossible....

I stand where I think I want to stand not where the others are telling me to stand. The people that stand where others tell them to stand, usually do not enjoy much....cheers!

I must say, you do know how to say absolutely nothing while using a lot of words. and poets is usually not the most practical people.  :P

P.s I would love to see a discussion between you and Sylvius the Mad. Should be entertaining at least.

Having the option of switching between FPW and TPW is not a novelty, the novelty of my idea is the the fact that is going to be imposed to the player.

I'll say that is rather difficult to understand if it is working is one of those changes that has to be tested....

Of course it has to be well implemented, with a perfect alternating view peace...

Never say no to new food, you  may miss out the good stuff...

Cheers!

Bad metaphor. If this idea is compared to food, most of us have already sampled both types of cuisine in question and know that we don't want to alternate between both without knowing which is coming next.

Less like trying something new in the singular sense and more like being asked to blind taste between pickled watermelon and regular watermelon without being told what's coming. We'd be getting so much of both we wouldn't have much chance to enjoy either.

On the off chance you're serious - the idea of switching views automatically is neither daring, nor groundbreaking. Predefined jumps were a thing probably since 3D made it's debut. The earliest example I can recall is Dungeon Keeper 2 (1999), where the top down camera went into FP mode, when you took control over a minion. Metal Gear, Deus Ex: HR, Fallout, Batman: AA all had certain moments when the camera view changed depending on an action. ME3 had FP view, when controlling the Atlas. Thief went to TP when climbing walls. In many games it works ok, even if it is a little jarring.

But doing it randomly? It's the same as unskillful switches between fixed location cameras - it's confusing and difficult to control. Your idea of doing it in an accidental fashion is just terrible game design.

To give this thread any substance:

Since MEA will probably use driving systems implemented by the NFS team, I'm wondering if there's going to be an option to switch views, while driving the Mako. Since it's already implemented in the engine, it's certainly a possibility, and would be a nice option to have.

Most of us are here  because we find the game fun. The internet in general is not known for being a gentle place =P

If you want to convince anybody you have good ideas you have to do so with actual arguments. Not by quoting poets or talking about "great ideas are often criticized at first".

P.s I would love to see a discussion between you and Sylvius the Mad. Should be entertaining at least.

That would be amazing to see.

The solution to the (inexistent) problem is to keep s.hit in 3rd person view, and that's it.

I don't play anything in first person. Ever. And I'd really, really like to play the Deus Ex games, but I'm not pestering their forums with threads asking "why can't Deus Ex use the same system as Assassins Creed"?

There is no solution, because there is no problem. Mass Effect is a third person game; wanna play it, grab your Avenger Rifle, jump from your ship and learn to appreciate the back of the head of your character.

I think the answer to this 'debate' is to keep ME3 3rd-person by default as it's always been, and potentially add an option for 1st person. Simple as that.

Did the chinese poet then say you should switch between walking forwards and backwards every 5 minutes to make life more complicated?

I would say that the answer is to just keep Mass Effect a third person game and leave it at that. The game doesn't need a first person option.

Not every single thing needs to be an option in the game.
