I didn't save my ME1 savegame.  If I just start a new toon in ME2 instead of import - what am I going to miss out on?

Should I run thru ME1 quickly or no?

I'm not sure what you miss out on, as if anyone or anything is actually taken out of the game if you haven't beaten ME1, but it's doubtful. Every characters approaches you with either a "You may not remember me, but-"  type line or flat out tell you who they are and how you know them. So you could probably get a recap on most characters.

If I were you though, I'd play the first one for every exact decision I wanted. May be hard to do with Mass Effect 2 staring at you from the shelf, though.

maybe you would consider importing some other people saves? i saw link to this kind of site somewhere here

your import doesn't change much, just the decision of who died on Vermire(kaiden/ashley) did Wrex die? did you save the council yes or no. the big lines remain the same: you're the first human spectre and are the hero off the alliance.
