If a trailer for a Mass Effect movie comes out, 90% chance it will be a bad choice of music.

I imagine it would just be something like Yakety Sax.

Which actually would be really fitting if it were based on your average ME3 MP pug match.

At least dub step is dead. How about a completely chill remix of Don't Fear the Reaper?

Why have a quad when a pair works just fine?

They lost a great opportunity by not using Don't Fear The Reaper for the ME3 trailer.

...yikes. All I can say is agree to disagree. And that Unbreakable is one of only three films I've ever walked out of.

I maintain the best approach is not to make a Mass Effect film at all, ever.

Hahahah, not a fan of b-films or cult classics, i see. Okay, won't begrudge you your decision.

And if we were going for a "canon" Shepard film, Zack Snyder.

"Tell me, Shepard...do you bleed?"

Okay, i can possibly see that. Definitely would bring the grit out. Hell, even more so than the source material. Won't win no Oscars but that's a good thing i think.

Spoiler

Those two would have to be among the worst choices ever. It's very highly either going to be an over explosive, brainless cluster puck or a convoluted mucky mess if either of these two get their hands on it. Granted, Shyamalan did make Sixth sense and The signs and as for Bay, The Rock was actually a pretty decent action flick. But with the things I've seen from them recently, I really don't have much hope if it turns out to be the case.

Although with that being said, I wouldn't mind giving it a watch if a good director is making it. They really don't need to include Shepard, especially since his/her story is ambiguous to the interpretation of the player. Instead an interesting plot set within the mass effect universe would be great Imo and it'd be pretty cool to see a story with another spectre in action perhaps even focusing on a turian as a main character or an episode from the contact wars etc.

Meh, I'm not a big fan of the recent marvel movies either, especially the new ones like civil war which everyone seems to praising. Just because a lot of people are riding the hype train doesn't mean that marvel can't make crappy movies although their previous successes allow for a very high margin of error.

They could be _absolutely_ horrible, and i wouldn't expect any less. I honestly have few expectations when it comes to such adaptations. I'm surprised of the movies mentioned that "Silent Hill" worked out as well as it did. This is a rare gem and should be treated as such. The way i see the suggestions of directors is the best possible thing that each person has done, the magic which was worked, and imagining said magic on a Mass Effect film. I hope for the best, even a cult classic but really can't imagine spending a dime unless the trailers + critics give me a hint otherwise.

I might be low on the testicle count but i still get confused for a krogan so it's good. ;)

The ME movie seems to be stuck in development hell. It would be very surprising at this point if a ME film ever gets made.

Maybe that is for the better. Most films based on video games are absolute trash, made on the cheap as a quick cash grab by studios looking to cash in on an existing fandom. A ME film would most likely have an abundance of bad CGI, a hack for a script writer, and a director and a cast of actors drawn from Hollywoods C and D lists.

An adaptation of the Shepard trilogy would also deviate considerably from the source material, no matter how well made. They'd have to condense 30 or so hours of story into a 2 hour film. That guarantees story cuts and possibly some beloved characters not making the films as well. The ending would certainly be different, because ME3's endings are just not filmable.

Some people are really attached to "their" Shepard, I like "my" Shepard but if it meant a decent movie with a Shepard that makes different choices than mine, then so what, it's just a movie, I support the franchise not just one character based on his or her decisions.

Nah, I'm a fan. Which terrible movies are actually brilliant and which terrible movies are just terrible is one of the most subjective things in the world. Case in point, to this day, I have an enduring and sincere affection for Surf Ninjas, which also (maybe by accident) has some of the wittiest dialogue I've ever heard.

It's probably more accurate to say that one person's delightful B movie is another person's Face/Off, which is one of the other two films I walked out of.

Del Toro Mass Effect.

Think of the aliens!

I've liked pretty much everything Del Toro's touched, in Spanish and in English, which probably says something terrible about me.

I know I'm like a page too late for the director discussion and we're on to silly jokes, but eh. Also it should totally be vanguard Shep. Not JUST because of my spectacular bias, but because we'll need a human biotic on the team and poor Kaidan probably won't focus test well. And vanguards move in an amazingly cool way.

That's probably true of most adaptations these days since the quality of TV shows is so high now. The best writers and directors are either working on TV or looking for good TV projects.

Problem is they'd turn it into Star Trek and have half of the cast of some other franchise do the acting. At which point it would suck.

Would love a prequel movie that explore characters's origin, it doesn't even need to be a live action. Not sure why they did it for Vega though.

A war movie on the first contact war sounds nice. Jon Grissom, Hackett, Chakwas, Pressley, Adams, then have familiar faces like Samara or Aria, Victus, Septimus etc. Ashley's granddad. Helen Shepard.

The one Mark Meer acted in was lame though.

Or I just marathon The Expanse and Battlestar Galactica.

Not necessarily.

Do a GoT-style show, 10-12 episodes a season, ensemble cast with no real big names (save maybe one or two in secondary roles) and thread that needle.

You can literally do a whole re-telling of the 3 Mass Effect games in 5-6 seasons.

The article linked to in the OP was from 2014. My understanding was they dropped that a long time ago and no one is currently working on a Mass Effect film - not even a script.

That was my understanding too, but who knows?  Certainly not me, the only thing that I know is that I'm going to see XMen Apocalypse this weekend.

I don't know why but the second trailer for Star Trek: Beyond reminds me more of Mass Effect than it does Star Trek and ironically it's the first of the new Trek universe movies that I actually want to see and maybe even like.

See 'The Nice Guys' instead. X-Men is pretty meh and not as good as the last two have been.
