IMHO, playing as a qunari mage was somewhat dissatisfying as there was nothing different really than any of my previous mages. I think having a race specific skill tree would enhance the gameplay, especially when it comes to multiple play throughs. In DA, theres alot of talk about the power of the saarebas, but to not be able to tap into it when you finally get a chance to play as one was a big disappointment. Maybe something like powerful traps, mines for elven mages, reminiscent of the trap triggered by Corypheus at the temple of Mythal, unique AOE for qunari, etc..

 Just my thoughts.

Adaar isn't a saarebas.  She's just a regular apostate.  Saarebases (saarebasi?) have their abilities because their sole purpose is to be weapons of the qun.

I think it would make more sense to have origin specific mage skills. A mage from Tevinter might have some different skills than a mage that was trained in a southern Circle, and those two formally trained mages might have different skills from someone like Morrigan that was not formally trained, but all three of these are human. They in turn might have different skills from a Dalish mage, a Vashoth mage, or a Qunari Saarebas.

We had that in the multiplayer.

Here's the thing though, even if they did do something like this for SP, it would largely be cosmetic. Perhaps the skills would have different names, or different graphics, or something, but they would essentially be the same. A Tevinter mage might have chain lightning, while a Dalish mage has some sort of vines that snake out to do damage to multiple targets. The reason for this is that the devs don't want any one follower to feel compulsory, which is why we have three warriors, mages, and rogues to choose from. People will bring along those they like, and ignore those they don't, or simply not recruit them.

Lore and party banter supports this.

Vivienne, Dorian and Solas all have their own unique style when it comes to casting magic according to Bull, who pointedly comments that he cannot figure out why Solas doesn't have something that "clunks" in his style as the others do.

Several bits of banter between Dorian and Solas are on how similar their styles are and how they both use similar means to get more "kick" out of spells. Solas claims this is because Tevinter magic was heavily influenced by - and appropriated from - the Ancient Elves and their schools of thought when the Imperium conquered them.

Likewise, VIvienne repeatedly derides Solas' skill and assumes he is incompetent because he was not "properly" trained in a Circle as she was.

This even shows up back in Origins, where Flemeth similarly tells a Mage Warden that her methods are so different from how the Circle teaches it's students, they would have to spend years learning her ways in order to have any hope of performing magic as she does.

(On a somewhat related note, can Elves and Dwarves demonstrate superior night-vision at some point in the series? The lore supposedly says that they should have this ability compared to humans, so it'd be a nice little detail to throw in.)

Excellent idea. Should be added to the DA4 wishlist.

I'm fine with just bonuses... maybe STR/CON/etc adjustments too (seeing that it's dumbed down and I can't adjust those myself lol).

I only wish the bonuses were more interesting.
