One that I always find myself doing is hanging back behind the reactor so I can hold the door (too soon?) What ones do you use?
Holding the door is ok. Make sure to close it behind you...
Get in the blue before time goes out. That strategy served me well over the years.

Know your coordinates, get to the correct LZ. Ran away from the Primes. If there are Banshees chasing you, fat kits and Destroyers are appreciated. Pug sacrifice is optional. And if a good teammate saves you from a sync-kill, become a guardian angel, follow them around and do your best to get them safely to their home.
If all else fails, bring a fat turian. With a claymore. Though HSol works too. But claymore is a must.
My usual extraction strategy for PUGging:
Listen to the voiceover guy telling us to head to the LZ, completely defy his pleas, and run to the opposite end. Point out to Pug1 nicely, that we really could've used that missile on w10, no need to save them 'til now.
Mention to Pug2 nicely, that it isn't a good idea to hang in the LZ yet, as it makes extraction more difficult for everyone. Comment on Pug1's continued missiling with growing frustration + eyerolling, is the nuking seriously necessary? Kill enemies.
Ask Pug2 to get away the extraction area, because it is too difficult to hold alone, and he's attracting all enemies that way. Kill a boss. Tell Pug2, that I'm not coming over to the LZ to revive him now, as he died for camping there. Explain, that it's still too early with over 1 min to go, so he needs to medigel. Say more sternly that he really should get out of there.
Watch Pug2 medigel, if lucky, and/or missile in a futile effort to hold the zone. Kill more enemies. Watch Pug2 ragegel soon thereafter.
Comment more snarkily on Pug1's nuking. Ponder out loud, if being outscored by a gril makes them do that now, and listen to missiles fly.
Wonder, if Pug2 speaks English, but nevertheless tell Pug2 again that he'll just need to medigel, as I am still not coming over to revive him at the LZ, now that they have successfully attracted all the enemies big and small, and most are now also spawning right there, thanks to Pug1's continued nukefest. Watch Pug2 bleed out. Sigh. Kill some enemies.
Watch Pug1 die, either having ragegelled on w1, 2, 4 and 8, or just refusing to gel. Mention that I'm not going to revive them as they didn't do any missions with us earlier. Slowly manouvre self towards LZ. Watch Pug1 bleed out. Kill more enemies.
Run just in time towards the zone, in case the Omnibutton sings hallelujah in its customary manner and gets me stuck on every doorframe, corner or crate. And in case of stubborn stunlocks, regardless of enemy faction.
In a sticky wicket, use opspack, medigel or maybe a missile if it really comes to it, because of all the enemies now swarming the vicinity of the extraction area, because of Pug1's nuking and Pug2's campfire. Glide in the LZ circle, kill a few last enemies from cover, and congratulate self on making it in time - or if very lucky, comment on the GG to the unicorn-like Pug3 who also hung or ran around further away, and made it there with me.
Wave buhbye to the people who should have done the same, and enjoy the on-flight refreshments alone or with the unicorn, as the shuttle curves off into the sunset.
I stand at the extraction zone for the full 2 mins and see if I can use all my medigels and OSPs.
Recently, I have noticed that a lot of players ran to the LZ as soon as possible. Unfortunately, as I remember, I did the same thing when I first began playing ME3 multiplayer. Here is my advice for the not so experience players and new comers (if they are still coming...
, even in silver, never ran to LZ and think that you can defend it with all your 6 nukes, and of course, your awesome skills. You will never make it. I know what you think. "I can do it in solo, now with 3 other players, there will be less enemies coming my way so I can defend the LZ on my own." You chance of success is about 1 in 10. In solo, true, the AI seems to cause the enemy come at you in one direction. But if more than one player in the game, they will come or eventually come in muti-direction, unless you time to release the nuke at the correct moment, which is difficult when you are panicking, you may be able to clear one wave or two, then you run out of nukes or medi gel or worst, both. The best way is to run to the next quarter and wait there. First, enemy will not spawn where you are so you can pick out enemy when they appear. No doubt, one or two players will run to the LZ, and the AI will direct most enemy to them instead of to you. Then when the time is down to 45 seconds, start proceeding to the LZ, picking out enemy at the same time. Or wait till about 30 seconds, arm your nuke and start running towards the LZ. Only fire the nuke if big heavy enemy or enemies block your way. Or fire it if a group of medium rank enemies are blocking the way or approaching the path you are going to take. Ideally, you get to the LZ within 10 - 20 seconds. By this time, there should be a gap for enemy to approach. So, you can relax and go back using your normal armoury. The longest run that you can have is the Rio map, you should start the final approach to the LZ around 50 seconds. This time is also the best time for anyone playing as big Geth dude as it cannot run. If you start at 30 seconds, you will not make it as it is very rarely that you will not encounter attack or being stunt by attack.
There is also one point I like to make. When using the nuke, don't fire directly at the target, like banzhee or atlas, etc.. If you see more than one of the big dudes, or a group of them, fire at the floor, roughly the centre of the group. Oh, not just the floor, the wall, the ceiling for the White map. I only fire directly at the target when I am standing in the LZ and there is only a few seconds left and seeing say an Atlas appearing far away. Hope this help.
My krogans do not extract. They burn every remaining consumable in 120 second orgy of furious stupidity, errr glory. Headbutt all the things. Mrrrwrrrarrrhahahahhhhh.
Otherwise it depends on the map. On Goddess I hunt. London, snipe. Glacier, nuke. Hydra, nuke, then snipe. White, hug the corners. Jade, hold the line. Condor, fcuk condor. And on reactor I go to the back, stand by the console and holdthedoor, holdthedoor, holdthedoor, holdthefuckingdoor.
That's where I always go, but I can't figure out how to keep the door open. Or close it when I want to.
The only case I know where rushing to the LZ works is Rio bronze/silver. One player who gets there before the spawn can nuke the spawn and hold the line. By kiting around that spot, he can block new spawns there. It works on gold, but takes two or three players to be there to block new spawns, and they have to get there before the wave begins.
It only works because of the geography of the Rio map. And that geography works against players staying by the crates on the other end. They have to run the gauntlet through the two choke points to get to the LZ.
Giant is kinda OK in this way. In other maps, the LZs are killing zones from too many directions.
Giant extractions are odd sometimes, ive been in teams that camp the **** out of the LZ smoothly the whole game only to see others run the hell away from it once wave 11 starts...

This.
I mean Hodor
I mean close the door.
I mean close the Reactor door on your teammates so they could burn like White Walkers inside.

[tl;dr]
I dunno man, I've had my share of successful camping trips in the LZ on silver. Great way of pissing off--I mean, helping out your teammates. ![]()

Yep, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ thats my hang out spot on rio for extraction.....in the corner just right across from the LZ / EZ.... as soon as wave 10 ends.. I make a dead sprint to get there before that spawn even happens..... if it does..I nuke it then claim that spot...it sucks against cerberus cuz lots of phantoms / goons will make their way over to that spot and make ya dance....but I prefer that to say hanging in the back...cuz you will just wind up nuking your entire way to the extraction zone anyways
If all else fails, bring a fat turian. With a claymore. Though HSol works too. But claymore is a must.
I think I might rename myself to Claymore and start doing like Hodor does.
That would be beautiful, wouldn't it?
