As far as Rio goes, I usually do hang back on the other end of the map. My experience is that if you know how to run, there's usually enough room to just sneak past by. If I'm using infiltrators, the easier it gets. I remember one time where as the geth engineer, I sprinted and ran past an atlas who was going to fire rockets. I deploy medibot fully expecting to get smacked by the rocket. The rocket drops my shields, the turret replenishes my shield, and I make a break for it. It's not a 100% guaranteed you'll be nuking the entire way through.

Giant extractions are odd sometimes, ive been in teams that camp the **** out of the LZ smoothly the whole game only to see others run the hell away from it once wave 11 starts...
I'm known to run away from that extraction on Giant. It's hit or miss and it depends on the group....(gold matches)..if the squad is up to the task, holding that line can be fun, but you can easily get overwhelmed if the squad is weak. Normally i run to the top of the ramp directly on the right side of Giant as you are dropped into the landing zone.
I will stay there and kill/kite enemies until about 20 seconds and head to the EZ....I have held the line in PLAT matches there tho, but again it was because of the squad in question.

Why extract anyway?
It's not like there will be an aerial bombardment or anything...
Never extracting used to be the preferred result on a lot of Gold and just about all of Platinum matches until they added the bonus credits for Extraction. Once you got the money for Wave 10 everybody just committed suicide to speed up the matches, and get to the Lobby and go again for farming credits since W11 wasn't worth anything
