Oh, nugs are not bad. Nuggalopes, however, are the stuff of nightmares.

Are we defining critter as just "anything that isn't a dwarf, elf, human, or qunari"?

Would the Nightmare count? Taking any form that scares you, even "nothingness" in Sera's case, with hundreds of eyes that see into your mind.

Considering it is just a very old demon, who knows what greater terrors the Fade holds?

If we are just talking about small animals... I'd probably go with deep stalkers.

Are we talking about anything or just the more mindless stuff we fight?

I think they recycled the banshees from ME 3 at least as far as the sound design went.

Nothing I've seen in the DA games I'd count as scary.

But the grossest or most unpleasant critters would be Brood Mothers, specifically The Mother. Ugh that face as she screams at the end just before you fight her.

I don't know why she was half woman and half spider.

I'd probably be unnerved if I ran into one of the ancient magisters especially if I knew they were one of the ancient magisters.

If we're going anything that would be non-sapient, I'd say wyverns. It reminds me of all that time I had to spend with Tallis.

The only thing worse than a broodmother is an entire pit of them, like the one encountered in Kal'Hirol.

Harvesters as well are creepy, since they're made up to tons of animated corpses.

The way Golems are created definitely qualifies as nightmare fuel, even if Golems themselves are not scary to look at.

Let's face it, the Deep Roads are a complete nightmare factory... and yet for some reason, I always find myself really enjoying venturing there.

A creature. The term generally refers to any small animal.

"I think we got bats in the barn! Them critters give me the creeps, they do."

In this case, it means monster.

The gurn has a surprisingly freaky face for being such a docile creature.

The Children

I hate them!

Broodmothers - just disgusting, gross, gives me the willies like nails on a chalkboard.

I agree that the Children and broodmothers are probably the worst... :o :?

Broodmothers.. especially after Hespith's poem, omg that's just.. urk..

Theeeeen the spiders. No matter how many times I met them.. they're just damn too icky for me XP

The concept of broodmothers is the most messed up thing to me. It's not even how they look, but what they are and how they're made. Those things vomiting all over the place wasn't exactly cool, either.

Exactly. Broodmothers are the scariest not because of how repulsive they are, but more how they came to be. Killing them is an act of mercy.

...And for the above reasons...   :crying:

However, I'm curious to know what people think the scariest creature that isn't some form of darkspawn is. I honestly can't decide right now, partly because I can't remember them all. The spiders are creepy of course, but I have to mention the nuggalope simply because of it's hands.

They're called terror demons, or Terrors, fittingly enough :)

Yeah, I think you're right. But Banshees are pretty cool though, right? :P

Broodmothers always creep me out and though you fight them a lot I still get a little skittish around the Giant Spiders. I always have my warriors fight them up close while I fight from afar. :pinched:

While not after getting used to them, both Rock Wraiths and Sha-Brytol gave me chills the first time they appeared.

Red Templars in game doesn't really raise alarm bells for me.
but their DESCRIPTION! :o .. about red lyrium sucking the heck out of 'em and eating them alive

Edit: partially from the Codex I'm reffering to

(snip)...
Imagine my nausea when I opened up the creature and saw that red lyrium had fused to the bones, overgrown its lungs, and spread like a fungus into the brain. As I watched, the red crystal pulsed and spread the smallest fraction of an inch deeper into the flesh of the corpse. Blood drained out of the surrounding tissue, as if the lyrium itself were feeding on it.

I have ordered my assistants to wear masks and gloves while burning the body. Posterity forgive me, I want no truck with the forces in that thing.

—From the diary of Professor Auffret, a naturalist studying at the University of Val Royeaux
