lolTo be sure, there are scarier monsters to be found in other game series like Barbie's Dreamhouse Party.
Which is the scariest DA critter?

LOLTo be honest, I find myself more disturbed by a Yarny cosplay than anything in Dragon Age. (Yarny: an adorable critter at mouse size, a terrifying abomination at human size.)

In Dragon Age the most disturbing thing I've faced are the Children. Whoever came up with this is a sadist ![]()
In other games, I feel the Zerg deserve an honorable mention. Just look at this thing:
Not helped by the fact that it is much larger than Harbinger...

I've seen people mention brood mothers. They wouldn't scare so much as they would make me want to puke. We have not seen any since the first game though, just imagine if they bring them back in all of the HD glory of current gen graphics.

I agree.. but I think the Mother DAA is pretty monstrous. Like I always recoil when her face splits.

Outside of the broodmother there really isn't anything that really scares me in DA:I. The envy demon is disturbing because of how violating the whole encounter with it feels, and it's gross to look at, but it's not really scary, not like *banshee* scary. In my opinion banshees are the scariest thing BioWare has created to date, they were at the same level as a xenomorph, and that is saying something. When I would hear those things scream in ME3MP when it first came out, I would have the most intense fight or flight reaction. It was awesome.
I can't be that scary, can I?
![]()
But yeah, that scream... chill-inducing, even in a game. And when a wave starts in MP and it's all silent... then WAAAAIIIIIIILLL, and someone screams "BANSHEE!"... well, get ready team! Doesn't help that if they get too close they can kill you instantly by skewering you on their arms, so... yeah. Kinda awesomely scary. Also somewhat gross. The Geth Juggernaut eats Banshees for breakfast though ![]()
Hmm, for non Darkspawn I'd say Despair Demons.
Did you see their faces?
You really want to see a Broodmother?
*gross snip*
[/spoiler]
Ah yes, "faces". We have dismissed that claim ![]()
Also, kind of off-topic, but I never understood how the Mother didn't count as "Nudity" for DA:A's rating. Anyway, that makes it even scarier/more gross/more uncomfortable for me.

Like people have said, it's not so much that they're scary-looking, it's how they were created and what they are that's scary. Like... it's harder to get scarier than that, to be honest.

With how twisted Humans and Dwarves end up after being transformed into broodmothers, makes you wonder how monstrous the Elven and Qunari are in comparison? Based on the Ogres appearance, I wonder if the Qunari broodmothers are covered in spikes and horns?

Pride demons.

Personally I found them much less threatening than in the other games, because they're rather easy to kill, appear far more often (making them less special) and don't try to manipulate you or make deals by talking to you. Their laugh is indeed rather cool though, and their lightning whips remind me of the Balrog from LoTR.

Probably those large spiders if you get right down to it. I don't mind those tiny jumping spiders in RL, but something that is the size of a small horse, I would GTF out of Dodge quickly.
And that freak boss creature you fight at the end of the Fade.

The children...the way they jump and open up those weird mouths of theirs
and then I haven't even spoken about their Mother! she's the stuff of nightmares
please tell me we won't be seeing more brood mother types in future games...I don't think I could handle a qunari broodmother ![]()
also, the envy demon who ever came up with a demon with multiple mouths and arms...ugh, no...just...no
